25.01.2022 LEARN THE LINGO Want to sound like you're an expert in the arena? We've explained a few common MMA terms below so you can talk to your mates about the sick moves you made this week! Choke: A submission hold applied to the neck that restricts air flow, blood flow or both. A choke is designed to cause the other athlete to tap out (don't worry, at Monster we're very gentle!)... Gi: A Gi is the official uniform of Brazilian Jiu Jiitsu - a heavily stitched, cotton uniform that we wear when we train and compete. There are different colours, different brands, and different qualities of Gi. Submission: means ending the round and admitting defeat against your opponent. Jab: jab is a straight punch with your lead hand. It is used primarily as a range finder and keeper. Are there any terms you hear a lot that you're confused by? Leave them in the comments!

09.01.2022 SGT - WA State Championships 2020. Well done to all of our competitors on Sunday. Minami competing for his very first time against some tough opponents and at such a huge event! Congratulations to Riley, Kelly and Kelly for taking out Gold in their Gi divisions and Mya for taking out double Gold in both of her No-Gi & Gi divisions. Lily and Tanya for making the very tough decision to fight through their injuries, it takes a lot of strength and dedication to train, let alone ...compete. Thank you to Dave for coaching everyone leading up to competition and on the day. Thank you Mestre Goioere for being there for us on the day. Thank you to the people who stuck around to support everyone competing and to all who helped prep and support our competitors leading up to the tournament, both on and off the mats. It was a huge day and we loved seeing the monster family supporting, helping and caring for each other. Last, but not least, thank you to Adam Metcalf and his team for organising such an epic tournament, we're looking forward to next year! See more
