22.01.2022 Earlier this year - pre-lockdown - we flew over to Perth to film a heartwarming documentary on Coolbinia Primary School, a part of the Beyond Blue Be You series. It was the final episode in a series weve been working on over the last 12 or so months. A special thanks to our magical skeleton crew Jessica Galea (Producer), Sarah Hickey (Director) and David Franjic (Cinematographer) who captured this beautiful story so well. 19.01.2022 SEEKING VLOG-STYLE VIDEO DIARIES FOR A DOCO ABOUT STAGE 4. Let it all out Melbourne, tell us how youre feeling... Thanks so much to everyone whos submitted material for our documentary about Melbourne in Stage 4. We are still seeking material, but this has given us a huge leg up. Over the coming days and week, we may ask for some more specific ways to contribute and right now we have a shortage of vlog-style material. Our Senior Producer Jessica Pearce has been so kind as ...to let us post hers publicly so you can get a sense of how simple it is, the material we are after. While weve loved the more elaborate entries, we would love to know more about what youre all feeling. So, if youd like to contribute your feelings to a film piece were making - laughter, tears, slobbiness, happiness - whatever youre feeling, you have permission to go nuts on the feels. Tell us your story, its as simple as hitting record and seeing what comes out. SUBMISSIONS TO: [email protected]. Please note that if your material is used in the end product, we will be in touch with release forms and more information, so we wont just use without further permissions. Stay safe x

18.01.2022 A little while back, we had a blast churning out this cute video for health food co. KOJA. Also... these bars are ridiculously scrumptious. 14.01.2022 URGENTLY SEEKING A DIVERSE ARRAY OF MELBOURNE STORIES IN LOCKDOWN 2.0. Hey guys. We're brewing up something pretty special and we'd love for YOU to be a part of it. Have you been documenting what lockdown looks like for you? We can't possibly grasp the magnitude of stories occurring around us right now, so this is your opportunity to show us what's going on in your world. We encourage you to be vulnerable. We encourage you to be authentic. We encourage you to be funny, to be... cute. But most of all, we encourage you to to be real. We're definitely not all in the same boat, but we can be in this together. We just... wanna see your boat. Send videos of all shapes, sizes, formats and content to: [email protected]. At this stage, cutoff will be 5pm Friday.

14.01.2022 We are just SO proud to have worked with our legend Sarah-Jane Woulahan on her short film Objects Of My Disaffection which will be premiering at the Melbourne International Film Festival this year! Some gorgeous stills to pique your interest. Please check it out at the link below, and tune in online when the festival rolls around this year on the interwebs! https://2020.miff.com.au/film/objects-of-my-disaffection/

14.01.2022 It's not absolutely officially official until it's on the Screen Australia website. Good hustle team, good news is few and far between during a pandemic so we'll take it. Stay tuned for more on 'The Followers' as the project develops. https://www.screenaustralia.gov.au//2019-2020-online-devel

14.01.2022 Co-Founder and Creative Director Sarah Hickey puts it best when she says: Things are a little bit fucked right now... But we just thought wed let you know were still operating, even if its business as NOT-so-usual. But while this might be an incredibly hard time for everyone, we just wanted to let brands and agencies know that its more important than ever to keep communicating with their customers and consumers, and keeping their finger on the pulse. A film is such a pow...erful way to do that. While high-concept is where we love to live, we recognise our business needs to lean up, and refocus on whats most important right now; and the world is simply craving authenticity, transparency, empathy, kindness and vulnerability. To not address our current situation and pretend nothing is happening is the worst thing you can do. So, were here to say... we get it. But were also here to say... lets be proactive, not REactive. Lets remain flexible and lets tackle this asshole of a year one step at a time.

13.01.2022 We've been putting the finishing touches on a very special filmed version of the Arts Moreland's 'A Very Moreland Christmas'. Basically a super fun, can't-wipe-the-smile-off-your-face, journey through Moreland in a documentary-meets-music video format. There are some phenomenally talented musicians involved, and we are stoked with the outcome. So click attending to the event if you wanna check it out when it goes live!

13.01.2022 Another example of the power of storyboarding. This quick turnaround project - like, REAL quick - for MYER needed everyone to be on the same page with one week of preproduction, and we think its pretty safe to say that everyone nailed it . . . In keeping with the ongoing and very important conversations we all need to keep having around mental health at the moment, we worked with Beyond Blue on this remotely filmed project to speak about suicide prevention. Trigger warning: This post contains video content that might be distressing for some viewers. It features real peoples stories about suicide. ... Director/interviewer: Sarah-Jane Woulahan Producer: Jessica Galea Editor: Sam McCarthy More to come on these brave individuals stories.

13.01.2022 We're a little slow off the mark, but here's our 2020 Animation Showreel! With a higher demand for animated storytelling in the era of "working from home", we just thought we'd let you know that... yes... we do animation too.

12.01.2022 It’s been a long year, and somehow our team has GROWN. So, in the name of growth - personally and as a team - we’ll be trickling out some cute little ‘Meet The Team’ loops so you can get to know us... in 2D AND 3D, some old faces, some new. All wiser for having survived a pandemic together. First up: Josh Mitchell-Frey Josh Mitchell-Frey is an award-winning cinematographer, and shoots the majority of works at Monster & Bear. He's also one of three founders.... FUN FACT: Josh was known as ‘The Dinosaur Kid’ in primary school, and is one of many to have developed a cliche’d love of sourdough baking throughout 2020. WHAT JOSH HAS LEARNT ABOUT HIMSELF DURING 2020: I would make a good hermit, haha. But I also learned how important it is for me to catch up with people, get outside, and get back on set. WHY 2021 EXCITES HIM: I don’t want to jinx it, but going into next year being able to safely film on-location in Victoria is very exciting for me. I’m looking forward to a lot of new visually interesting projects next year!

11.01.2022 For those of you who have been wondering if we'll be officially re-opening... The answer is yes! Keen to shoot in our space? It's possible. We just ask you to take the house rules seriously :)

03.01.2022 WHAT ON EARTH IS #ISOCRAY? Iso-Cray (a.k.a. Resilientitis) is "a form of delirium, or coping mechanism, developed by the people of Melbourne in Stage 4 lockdown. Thanks to everyone who contributed their material to make this little snapshot of how were all feeling right now. If its getting a bit too much, we highly recommend giving Beyond Blue a call on 1300 22 4636. And special thanks to Australia Locked Down for sharing the love too.

02.01.2022 INTRODUCING... "THE HUF"! Due to the increased demand for animation during the period over lockdown - and the general time of the pandemic - weve actually hired someone. So we just wanted to give a warm and official welcome to Sam Huf who has joined the Monster & Bear team. Were very excited to have this incredible motion designer, character designer and 2D/3D animator join us. His work - as seen in his showreel below - speaks for itself! What do you think? A keeper? ... Note: Due to having two Sams in post, its officially okay to call this Sam The Huf! He loves it :P

02.01.2022 We blinked, and then it was April. How did that happen?! Anyone else feel the same? So we’re a little late to the party but we wanted to say thank you to all of the clients who still trusted us with all their projects throughout the year that was 2020. We did a lot of things we don’t usually do, but it was an adventure worth celebrating. We made a game (yes, a game!), edited together zoom documentaries, came up with concepts to execute under heavy restrictions and really expanded our animation offering. So this is just a little thank you to all the clients who trusted us with those projects in the year that was. And here’s to keeping the adventure going on 2021!

02.01.2022 2020 Carols are going to look a little different this year as Monster & Bear have teamed up with Moreland City Council to bring you Carols by Porchlight And we would love for YOU to be involved! We are seeking Moreland residents that are interested to be involved in our special community carols film. Whether just yourself, your school, family, neighbours, or choir, we want to hear from you :)... What are you required to do? As we are still organising the production we are looking for those who are keen to film themselves singing a particular song (which well inform you of) or those that are happy for our film crew to arrive at your door step to film random activities, singing, dancing, general Moreland community vibes as per social distancing requirements. And this can all be filmed from the comfort of your, well, porch! Share your biggest, boldest voice and your brightest and most colourful festive-attired self!
