24.01.2022 Into the wild southwest with @isophysis collecting genetic samples from an ancient Huon Pine grove. This relic population consists of sentinel trees that would easily push the 2000 year mark. A 20km+ round trip into offtrack wild lands. Who knows what secrets these samples will reveal about the history of these entities. #ancienttasmania #ancient #entities #paleoendemic #montanebonsai #wilderness #tasmanianbonsai #relic #huonpine

21.01.2022 Mountain Geebung (Persoonia gunnii). A slow growing plant from the Tasmanian highlands with delightfully scented flowers that will perfume the whole garden. This little tree is probably 20 to 25 years old and has been slowly grown in a pot all its life. It has never had a single wire applied. It is adorned by junipermoss and native daisies Photo by @bazzabaker #tasmanianbonsai #tasmaniannativebonsai #montanebonsai #geebung

17.01.2022 We delivered this feature bonsai Banksia serrata today that was created on commission for this space. The linear trunk line and flow are just right for this stunning courtyard in Battery Point. 16.01.2022 I wait for the snow days each winter. Time slows and the flurries softly change the landscape. A glass of red wine. Flash backs to the wild of the mountains. The garden a portal, to solitude. Pondering forms yet to come to light. #Idreamofmountains #montanebonsai #montane

12.01.2022 Koyo oribe. One of my favourite glazes from the old masters. It's time to start dreaming of compositions for spring. What's your favourite glaze? #bonsai #bonsaipot #ceremics #tokoname #japaneseaesthetic #coolblue #inadream #dreambig

06.01.2022 The mountains are full of inspiration. This is one of my favourite patches of Cheshunt Pine (diselma archerii). I often sit for a while and study their forms as I pass through the area, sometimes I boil the billy and have a cup of tea. Their forms are of the utmost beauty and rival the quality of the world best shimpaku junipers. These are tassie wild junipers and they shall continue to stay hidden and free in the Southwest World Herritage Area. I ponder how old they must be and the storms they have endured and wonder how many generations my cuttings will have to be tended by to reach any forms that relay this moment. Bonsai teaches us many things. One is how to care for, love and respect living organisms and the responsibility involved in their perpetuation. #worldherritageisforever #shimpaku #diselmaarcherii #montanebonsai

04.01.2022 An old hakea epiglottis I have been working on for several years. This species is a real treat. Lovely fragrant flowers in the spring are followed by vibrant new needles. This specimen is around 25 years old grown from cutting. #australianbonsai #australiannativebonsai #montanebonsai #tasmanianbonsai #notapine #floweringbonsai

02.01.2022 We are still working here at Montane Bonsai in between putting our home back together. Hannah was helping me weed the cushion plants this afternoon. She has the delicacy of a surgeon. We will have a tonne more content to share this Spring when we focus our efforts on the garden again. #australianbonsaiwidows
