25.01.2022 During circle time the children have been practicing their decision-making skills. They choose their own ‘lily pad’ to sit on and are then asked by educators which songs they would like to sing and book to have read to them. All of these activities help to empower our children and give them a sense of belonging in their own environment.

22.01.2022 The children have been learning to cut up different foods and transfer items using a large hand grasp, pincer grasp and tongs. Children use these skills to prepare meals, serve food and to eat. These activities enable the children to become more independent and involved, giving them a sense of belonging.

15.01.2022 During circle time the children were introduced to the Sandpaper Globe. The blue colour represents the water and the yellow represents the land. Water is smooth to feel, and the land is rough. Children had turns during circle time to feel the land and water to differentiate between the rough and smooth texture. This activity not only helps children with their senses but also gives them the new vocabulary to explore.

15.01.2022 Montessori Material 'the cylinder blocks' indirectly prepares children for writing, as they begin coordinating their fingers in a pincer grip, used for holding pens and pencils. This material also teaches children to visually discriminate between dimensions and as their competency grows, the children can begin to differentiate with touch.

12.01.2022 We had several days of extremely hot weather during Summer; we spoke to the children about how the plants need water to ‘drink’, just like we need water to drink. The children are learning to care for their environment and the world around them, helping them to feel a sense of belonging.

11.01.2022 Over at Officer, the children were lucky enough to be able to visit their local park and have a picnic lunch last week! This was a very special outing for the children as we haven't been able to get out into the community due to the Level 4 lockdown in Victoria. The children enjoyed seeing birds and dogs on their walks in the park. We were all so tired after, but we look forward to our next outing soon!

10.01.2022 The Constructive Triangles belong to the Sensorial area of the Montessori classroom and are used as indirect preparation for geometry. One of the aims of the Constructive Triangles is to demonstrate to children how all shapes with straight sides are actually made up of triangles. There are five different boxes that are used the one in the picture is shaped like a triangle that consists of equilateral triangles, right-angled scalene triangles and obtuse-angled isosceles triangles.
