25.01.2022 A favourite activity amongst the children in our classrooms is threading. Threading activities are from the ‘Practical Life’ area. They help children develop fine motor skills that are essential for being able to draw, do up buttons, tie shoelaces, open lunch boxes and more. Threading also helps to develop eye-hand coordination and concentration skills. The beads used for threading can differ in size and materials. As the children become more dexterous, we place smaller beads on the shelf. Threading contributes to building skills for sewing and writing, as well as developing muscles in the child's fingers and hands.

18.01.2022 By participating in art practices, the children have developed respect and knowledge towards diverse arts and cultures. The children craft and colour using both natural materials, recycled materials and paint. They enjoy using their imagination and exploring different colours as they develop creative skills, motor skills, and learn how to express themselves in new ways.

15.01.2022 Children are often inspired by the environment around them. After seeing some street art in their community, the children at our Officer centre were inspired to create their own artwork. We closed off the Officer car park for the afternoon to allow the children to create their masterpieces using coloured chalk.

11.01.2022 Taking care of plants and other living objects helps build compassion, respect and responsibility in children. They will learn to observe, ask questions, consider problems and find solutions - the beginnings of scientific thinking! Watering the garden and pot plants is a wonderful opportunity for children to play with water, experiment with measuring and follow directions whilst taking care of the plants.

09.01.2022 The Constructive Triangles belong to the Sensorial area of the Montessori classroom and are used as indirect preparation for geometry. One of the aims of the Constructive Triangles is to demonstrate to children how all shapes with straight sides are actually made up of triangles. There are five different boxes that are used the one in the picture is shaped like a triangle that consists of equilateral triangles, right-angled scalene triangles and obtuse-angled isosceles triangles.

08.01.2022 Some of our children have been learning about Alaska in the USA through maps, painting, and group discussions about the Alaskan culture. Our educators have shown the children where Alaska is located on the globe and have taught the children about the different animals that live in Alaska, such as the polar bear shown here in this photo.

02.01.2022 Crawling is considered the first form of independent movement. It helps develop and enhance our vestibular/balance system, sensory system, cognition, problem solving skills, and coordination. The children in our Nido classes enjoy moving freely around and engaging in all the activities available to them. They enjoy crawling through the 'tunnel’ during games like ‘Peek-a-Boo' and learning about 'object permanence'.
