25.01.2022 Loose Parts exploration allows for children to use natural materials and objects from their environment. This gives children the freedom to explore and understand the natural world around them. Our children show their creativity and imagination while developing their fine and gross motor skills.

24.01.2022 Colour Boxes are one of the most visually appealing Montessori materials This material engages multiple senses. It also has endless extensions and activities which can be added for children to reach different and more meaningful conclusions. In our classroom the children have been matching the colours with items in the environment, demonstrating their memory and recall abilities.

24.01.2022 Taking care of plants and other living objects helps build compassion, respect and responsibility in children. They will learn to observe, ask questions, consider problems and find solutions - the beginnings of scientific thinking! Watering the garden and pot plants is a wonderful opportunity for children to play with water, experiment with measuring and follow directions whilst taking care of the plants.

22.01.2022 Our children have been introduced to the Sorting material according to size. This is beneficial for discrimination of different dimensions and is an extension activity.

21.01.2022 Cylinder blocks are really popular and loved by the children of all ages. They are one of the preliminary Montessori material from the sensorial area. Children learn how to discriminate sizes and dimensions with preciseness of movements, concentration and problem-solving.

20.01.2022 The children have shown a great interest in painting. We have demonstrated the steps; how to put on an art smock, pin up their paper, and then hang their painting to dry. The children then spent the morning practicing these steps themselves.

19.01.2022 Among the subareas of cultural studies, there is Geography. By using puzzle maps, children learn about the continents, countries and states of the world. Picking up each piece of the puzzle, the child indirectly learns where the capital of each state is located as the knob is strategically located exactly on it. This is part of the extraordinary indirect learning that happens in a Montessori environment.

19.01.2022 We are currently teaching the children how to use dressing frames in our Practical Life area. This particular dressing frame assists children in learning how to botton and unbotton.

18.01.2022 Our children in Cycle 1 A recently celebrated Chinese New Year; the Year of the Rat. We celebrated by learning about the Chinese Calendar, the animals and representations, reading stories, and finding the map of China on the globe.

18.01.2022 Crawling is considered the first form of independent movement. It helps develop and enhance our vestibular/balance system, sensory system, cognition, problem solving skills, and coordination. The children in our Nido classes enjoy moving freely around and engaging in all the activities available to them. They enjoy crawling through the 'tunnel’ during games like ‘Peek-a-Boo' and learning about 'object permanence'.

18.01.2022 Water pouring is a fun and engaging activity that will keep children entertained. Provide a variety of jugs, all different sizes and shapes, with handles for them to grasp and pour.

17.01.2022 During circle time the children were introduced to the Sandpaper Globe. The blue colour represents the water and the yellow represents the land. Water is smooth to feel, and the land is rough. Children had turns during circle time to feel the land and water to differentiate between the rough and smooth texture. This activity not only helps children with their senses but also gives them the new vocabulary to explore.

17.01.2022 Sustainability is embedded in our Montessori program. The children are actively involved in our daily #sustainability practices within our centre at Thomastown.

17.01.2022 This month, Infant Community B have been focusing on sustainability and part of this is taking care of our plants. We have our own vegetable garden, which we as a room are responsible for. 16.01.2022 Our children enjoy developing their mathematics skills by adding combinations of 1-9. They determine what numbers they want to add together, using one blue and one red number strip. The answer to the equation is then at the top of the board. The Montessori program allows children opportunities to work with concrete materials before being drawn towards more abstract representations.

14.01.2022 The Hundred Board is a key Montessori Mathematics material used for teaching the number sequence from 1 to 100. It helps children progress from recognising numbers to understanding how they belong in a sequence. It is also a useful tool for introducing patterns and skip counting, but most of all it's perfect for just reinforcing the understanding of numbers from one to one-hundred!

13.01.2022 Our children enjoy indoor time during the wet weather days; and have been engaging in activities such as the Red and Green apple puzzle.

10.01.2022 The children in Infant Community B also Celebrated Chinese New Year by making lanterns and noodles.

10.01.2022 A favourite activity amongst the children in our classrooms is threading. Threading activities are from the ‘Practical Life’ area. They help children develop fine motor skills that are essential for being able to draw, do up buttons, tie shoelaces, open lunch boxes and more. Threading also helps to develop eye-hand coordination and concentration skills. The beads used for threading can differ in size and materials. As the children become more dexterous, we place smaller beads on the shelf. Threading contributes to building skills for sewing and writing, as well as developing muscles in the child's fingers and hands.

10.01.2022 In a Montessori classroom, children are taught to care for their surroundings. One of these activities is sweeping, which supports whole-body coordination, motor skills and respect for the environment.

The children were able to measure and incorporate dry and wet ingredients to create a loaf and enjoyed the damper for afternoon tea. Cooking allows children many varied experiences, including math, language and cultural experiences.

06.01.2022 Over the last few weeks we have been observing the children gain a strong interest in climbing furniture.
