25.01.2022 Our sausage sizzle fundraiser was a success. Although the morning was quite wet and cold, the sun shone through and the sky was blue by the time we fired up the barbecue. Thank you to everyone who participated and donated money, and for making it a fun school event! Proceeds will go to the Dalaigur Preschool in Kempsey, for which our graduates are raising funds as part of their Journey of Service this year.
24.01.2022 Lest we forget.

17.01.2022 "Through years of observation around the world, Montessori came to understand that children, when left in freedom, displayed a distinct work cycle which was so predictable it could even be graphed. This cycle, with two peaks and one valley, lasted approximately three hours. In Montessori schools children have three hours of open, uninterrupted time to choose independent work, become deeply engaged, and repeat to their own satisfaction." - Montessori Australia At any given time, if you visit a classroom in Montessori East, you will find several children engrossed in their own work. Other times, they work with a partner or in a group. It is a beautiful thing to see a child quietly immersed in their work.

15.01.2022 The nation is celebrating our rich indigenous culture this week, NAIDOC Week. It is normally held in July but due to the events of 2020 the committee postponed it until 8-15 November. The theme this year is Always Was, Always Will Be, in recognition of the true history of our country dating back thousands of generations. The school celebrated NAIDOC Week last July (when it is usually held) which coincided with Science Week. As a result, our NAIDOC Week celebrations explored ...the rich and amazing world of Indigenous science. The younger children in years 1-3 listened to a well-known dreaming story, The Emu in the Sky, which showed the connection between Aboriginal and Western astronomy. They also explored Indigenous calendars and learned how the seasons revolve around the activities of the animals and plants. We marvelled at the ecological knowledge associated with each season. The children also worked in small groups to write their own scripts to dreamtime stories which they presented in class. The older children in years 4-6 discussed how the Aboriginal community has been using science to help them survive and thrive for millenia. It was a great opportunity to practise "Cosmic Education" and to experience the interrelatedness of different subject areas. #NAIDOC2020 #NAIDOCWeek #NAIDOC

08.01.2022 Art and culture are at the centre of Dalaigur & Scribbly Gum Dalai nursery. Dalaigur community will be part of an exhibition, an opportunity to see how Australi...a is a world stage for artists and culture. "During this year especially during the COVID isolation period we used the art project as a way to stay connected without families. We encouraged the children and families to again be able to make nests and eggs together in clay, which will be added to the exhibition. Many of the children at Dalaigur were not yet at school when the earlier artmaking took place and so will have an opportunity to be part of this project. We dropped of clay packs and instructions to our families, using our buses" #NAIDOCWeek2020
08.01.2022 The first directress of Montessori East, Lilly Kuruvita, is surrounded by young children as she reads them a book. You can almost feel her channeling Maria Montessori in this scene. (Photo circa 1983) #tbt #tbthursday
