25.01.2022 We are wanting to refresh our centre philosophy, now that its been 5 years. We want to make sure it reflects who we really are and how our community sees us. To that end.....could you let us know your 3 words....that reflect what YOU think Montessori Gardens is all about

24.01.2022 Work and play dont always need expensive equipment. Sometimes using what you have available that would otherwise go to waste works well. It helps children to understand the concept of reuse/recycle/repurpose in a real, fundamental way.

23.01.2022 Montessori education is all about fitting the environment to the child rather than trying to change the child to fit the environment. Recently we modified some tables and chairs to make sure that all our friends have furniture appropriate and comfortable for them to work and play. This is why we call our classrooms prepared environments, because we need to constantly assess, review and alter our environments so they are prepared for the particular children who inhabit them.

22.01.2022 It is really important that we help children to be truly independent in their learning. That way they are not reliant on the attention or reinforcement of an adult, or child for that matter, to support their sense of achievement and satisfaction. THIS is what helps them to learn and feel capable, despite the situation or circumstances. We want to create a scenario where a child is TRULY free to learn wherever and whenever they wish. It starts with them knowing that actually they need nothing but themselves and a desire to learn. With those things they can find whatever else they need, their own learning is not dependent on others, although it can be supported by others. This way they can be truly free to learn.

22.01.2022 Independence is a central part of our education method

20.01.2022 I'm not sure if this centre is influenced by Montessori philosophy, but this is exactly what Montessori has been practising for over 100 years. In all things, including food we promote independence, problem solving, choice, responsibility and community spirit.

20.01.2022 We are very focused on process rather than product

17.01.2022 Sweet Potato and Rosemary Soup We made the most delicious soup with the kids the other day. You might like to try it at home. Tasty and nutritious with simple inexpensive ingredients.....a real winner on all counts! Ingredients... , plus extra for brushing2 tsp olive oil , chopped1 onion 3 garlic cloves , peeled and cubed750g sweet potato 1l vegetable stock sprigs2 rosemary 8 slices bread (ciabatta is good) Method Heat the oil in a large saucepan, then fry the onion until soft. Crush 2 garlic cloves, add to the onion, then fry for 1 min more. Stir in the sweet potato, then cover with the stock and bring to the boil. Strip the leaves from one of the rosemary sprigs, then add to the pan. Simmer for 10 mins until the potato is soft. Meanwhile, heat oven to 200C/ fan 180C/gas 6. Place the bread on a baking sheet, then brush with olive oil. Slice the remaining garlic clove in half, then rub the cut side over the bread along with the leaves from the second rosemary sprig. Season, then bake for 10 mins until crisp and golden. Use a hand blender to roughly purée the soup, adding a splash of hot water if it seems too thick. Season well, then pour into warmed bowls and serve with the toasts.

10.01.2022 Spending my day with family at the opening of the museum in Perth. I HIGHLY recommend it....really excellent and so many interactive elements. Great for kids. But I don't think I could really see it all in one go. I think I'll keep coming back and just look at one exhibit at a time.

09.01.2022 Have you met Ramandeep? Ramandeep has been with Montessori Gardens for about 4 years on and off and working in Montessori for much longer. Ramandeep is the mother of 3 beautiful girls and loves to learn new things, especially in regards to education . We love that Ramandeep is always so warm and welcoming and cheerful. Ramandeep closes the centre each night and she brings a calm and competence to the evenings. Our parents are regularly greeted with her radiant smile when they come to pick up their children. What do you love most about Ramandeep?

07.01.2022 Animals have always been part of our environments at Montessori Gardens. They offer such valuable learning experiences and bring an appreciation of the wonders of nature and a sense of calm and joy to the children, and to the staff.

06.01.2022 Sometimes its about stopping to enjoy the beauty around us, soaking in the simple pleasures, appreciating the blessings ..... even amoungst the storm clouds.

06.01.2022 Practical Life is really important for self esteem, executive function, motor skills and resilience.

05.01.2022 Intelligence plus character! #montessori #earlylearning #earlyeducation #toddler

05.01.2022 Montessori education believes in following the child, because we believe that children are naturally disposed to learn, we simply need to facilitate it.

05.01.2022 Ever wondered which Sandpaper Letters to choose first when first teaching Sandpaper Letters to a child? #montessori #montessoriathome #montessoriactivity

04.01.2022 Practical life is so important for building self esteem, executive function, motor function and resilience.

03.01.2022 This is a lovely little video about the life of Maria Montessori. Well worth watching!

03.01.2022 We are creating an area out the front of the centre for sharing our surplus/unwanted/no longer needed items. You can drop things off here to gift to others and get things from here if you would make use of them. Some suggestions are cuttings, excess herbs/fruit/vegetables, clothing and toys that still have lots of life left in them, books and movies in good condition and plants. They will be placed outside for two weeks and then forwarded to charities (the produce will be composted or given to chickens if not used/taken) We hope this will be an enjoyable and useful service for all involved!

03.01.2022 All higher order work...fine motor...academic...whatever.....starts with secure posture. And secure posture often starts with sitting on the right sized chair and working at the right sized table.

02.01.2022 We call this the absorbent mind and because of it we try to be oh so careful what environment we give the child to absorb.....because we know it will stay with them for the rest of their lives. #earlylearning #montessori #montessoriathome

01.01.2022 To do things for ourselves can be one of lifes greatest pleasures....especially for a child

01.01.2022 People often comment about how carefully children move in a Montessori classroom, how calm and still they are compared with other types of classrooms. We need to be careful as Montessori teachers to not value quiet and still above constructive movement and active engagement.

01.01.2022 The human hand is a miraculous thing

01.01.2022 executive function and academic learning find their foundations in practical life and sensorial education
