24.01.2022 Today Ainsley and Shari along with people from the Willunga Wanderers and this awesome community we are lucky enough to live in, have taken up the challenge to walk 50km from McLaren Vale to the city to raise funds for the homeless and the Hutt Street Centre. An amazing effort by people from our local community It is not too late to donate, see the Willunga Wanderers Facebook page As the song says These boots were made for walking . Just keeping going Ainsley and Shari you can do it

23.01.2022 Well the last week or so has been a little uncertain and concerning for many of us but here at Montessori we have endeavoured to keep things calm and reassuring, making small changes where necessary. The children have helped to clean resources and practised social distancing. We have incorporated these new practices into our daily routines such as at lunch, circle and story times. The outside environment has been used extensively to support children's learning and to give the...m the space required to work an appropriate distance apart. We have continued to answer their questions and offer explanations about germs and keeping our bodies safe. Amongst all this we have continued with our routines and learning experiences for the children. The coming weeks, possibly months will be a test of the resilience for all of our community, not just our children. Thank you to our beautiful community for your continued support and how you have adapted to the changes we have made at this time. See more

20.01.2022 We have enjoyed the beautiful Autumn weather over the last couple of days, observing in wonder the final step in the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly. Nature is incredible.

19.01.2022 Week 6, Term 1! Here you can see the children in their inside and outside environment. We are halfway through Term 1 and the children are becoming more familiar with and understanding the routines and are working independently through each area at Montessori.

18.01.2022 Check out the labels

16.01.2022 The children have been exploring and enjoying their outside learning environment. Play is the children's work. They have been busy caring for their vegetable garden, preparing the chicken pen ready for new chickens, developing new social connections and helping each other with tasks when required. Behind educators and families, the environment holds the potential to influence how and what children learn.

15.01.2022 Practical Life is a fundamental part of the Montessori curriculum, the purpose and aim is to help the child gain control and coordination of their body, help them to become independent, as well as being a contributing member of their learning community. 14.01.2022 Exciting News! Our Montessori wine has been labelled and boxed! Pick up from 3:30-5:30 Tuesday afternoon, 8/12!... Super huge thanks to Emily and Jock for their support with design, printing, wine orders and storage.... we couldn’t have done it without you. A huge thanks to the volunteers who could make our labelling session last week. What a community effort

13.01.2022 It is so wonderful to have the classroom filled with children again. Welcome back!

09.01.2022 And the team at work!

09.01.2022 We had our first visit of the year to Colton Court, a local residential aged care facility. These visits will continue through the year on a fortnightly basis and will provide the opportunity for intergenerational learning as well as the development friendships and an occasion for the children to practice their Grace and Courtesy skills. We hope that regular visits will help both the children and residents to build a connection, socially and emotionally. "Both young and old people have a lot of time on their hands. That's probably why they get along so well." Jonathan Carroll

09.01.2022 We have picked a box of peaches to share! The box is at the back gate, with some paper bags... please come along and help yourself to these delicious fruits which have been nurtured by the children over the year!

07.01.2022 Montessori Children’s Centre, McLaren Vale recognises with sadness, the passing of Stan Broadwood. During his presidency, Stan played an integral role in the separation of the Montessori preschool site from the McLaren Vale Bowling club. Stan was a quiet, humble and loyal man who worked tirelessly for his family and community. His generosity of spirit and gentle wit will be sorely missed. We give our love and strength to Stan’s wife Marie as she navigates her way through the darkness of grief. Thank you Stan for your endless support of Montessori Rest easy

04.01.2022 And people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently. And when the people couldn't stay home.... and they had to go to work.... we cared for the children. And we cleaned... and we washed our hands.... and we worked.... and we laughed.... and... we washed our hands again.... And we talk of the children we haven't seen as much, and of grandparents and families we can't visit. And we find something we can be thankful for. And we talk of the times we are in, and the new times to come. And we remember to breathe. We wish you all a safe and relaxing break. And if you have no break, we wish you a safe and healthy work time. And we look forward to sharing Term 2 with you all~ including new and innovative online connections and resources, alongside the provision of care and education for our 'essential children'. Thank You and #stayhomestaysafe

03.01.2022 This week at Montessori we have been talking about the importance of care of self. This forms part of the Montessori practical life curriculum. We have talked about how washing hands keeps our bodies healthy and stops germs. The children have also been involved in conversations about what a germ is and what they come from and what they can do to ensure a healthy learning environment for themselves and their peers. The essence of independence is to be able to do something for one’s self. Maria Montessori
