14.01.2022 Monto Show Society is calling for nominations for its 2020 Rural Ambassador competition. The competition aims to discover the next generation of rural leaders who have the desire to represent and promote our fantastic town, our show and our community. What is it all about? The Rural Ambassador competition is a national competition aimed at young rural adults who have a passion for living and working in rural communities. Hosted by show societies right around the nation at a... local, sub-chamber, state and national level, successful entrants are given the opportunity to meet and network with like-minded representatives at each level. You will meet state and federal decision makers and leaders in agriculture and education, be able to input your point of view, ask the hard questions and make important contacts. You do not have to be a university graduate, you just need to have the desire to stand up for rural Australia, have a basic agricultural and rural knowledge, and be prepared to have a go. You will experience some tough competition, make lifelong friends and have a damn good time. If this sounds like you or someone you know, contact the Monto Show Society, Brianna Hockey or Clare Webb for more information and entry details. 09.01.2022 What is JBAS, and what does it mean for my operation??? We get asked this question A LOT!!!! So lets try to clear some of the grey areas up for you. Johnes Be...ef Assurance Score (JBAS) is a risk profiling tool developed to support producers and manage the risk of Johnes disease in their herd What do the JBAS Scores mean and How is it achieved? - To maintain a JBAS 6 score an on-farm bio security plan is required to be in place. - To maintain a JBAS 7 score you must have a bio-security plan that has been checked and signed by a veterinarian and under taken a "Herd Check Test". - To sell or transport cattle to WA then a JBAS 7 or 8 score is required along with vet approved biosecurity plan and annual faecal testing (other entry requirements maybe required). - Cattle traveling to NT are required to have a JBAS 6 score and must be accompanied with a health declaration from the property of origin. -To remain a JBAS 7 WA (Trading Cattle) or higher ANNUAL faecal testing must be completed. - TO remain a JBAS 7 without trading with WA, then tri-annual faecal testing is sufficient. When choosing cattle to faecal test they must be: - 3 years or older - A REPRESENTATIVE sample of your herd (i.e breeders, bullocks, bulls, etc) - NOT a mob of heifers/cows all from the same paddock. For more information please dont hesitate to give us a call and have a chat to one of our staff members (07) 4992 1814
