21.01.2022 HISTORY OF PHOTO FINISH TOWER The Tower was built in 1978 by Merv Persal. Merv built the Tower structure on the ground and it was pulled into the holes with a trench dug to guide into place by Bill Schluter and his Blitz Army Crane as it was too high to lift.... The spotted gum poles came from the Hutton family property at Coominglah and Torrens & James; Mulgildie Sawmill, donated the preserving chemical process for the poles. Numerous people donated money towards this Tower and a Honour Board is displayed each Race Day with their names. The Tower was Officially opened in May 1979 by Russ Hinze, Minister for Racing. The new Tower has been funded to the Club by a Racing Qld Grant, with Racing Qld undertaking all aspects of the construction and installation of the Tower. Work commenced on Wednesday, August 19th 2020 with the demolition of the old Tower. The new concrete pad was poured on August 20th and the Contractors will commence erection in coming weeks when the concrete is cured. The main Photo Finish box at the top of the Tower Structure will be restored and will still be apart of the Club.

01.01.2022 Old Photo Finish Tower coming down. Racing QLD have organised and funded a new Tower for the Club through the Country Racing Grants Program. We thank them sincerely for their support to the Club. It is still a very sad moment to see this History piece being replaced but it certainly had to be replaced for safety reasons.
