18.01.2022 Chasing waterfalls in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. There’s plenty of them to explore such as Baxter Falls, located north of Flaxton. From the Flaxton Mill Roa...d car park, you walk through open eucalypt forest and downhill to Baxter Creek with its beautiful waterfall. The walk starts out fairly flat for the first 1.8km then proceeds down through the lush rainforest on a winding single trail that takes about an hour from carpark to final destination. FAST FACTS: 1.3 million cubic metres of sand forms the runway foundation. The runway surface is made of 400,000 tonnes of crushed rock, equivalent to almost eight times the weight of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and 64,000 tonnes of asphalt It is topped with 409 lights powered by more than 50 kms of cabling. The Sunshine Coast Airport Expansion Project is being delivered by Sunshine Coast Council at a cost of $334 million. The runway took 26 months to construct and, at every opportunity, the project has utilised local suppliers and workforce. 12.01.2022 World famous concert pianist Piers Lane to perform at Montville A ten-year dream to have one of Australia’s most successful and dynamic classical musicians perf...orm at the Lucas Parklands concert hall at Montville has been realised. Piers Lane AO, who is based in London, will perform two concerts on May 29 and 30, bringing his wonderful pianism and musicianship to Sunshine Coast classical music lovers. Ian Lucas, of Lucas Parklands, said he had been hoping for a decade or more to have Maestro Lane perform at his family’s venue and that dream was now a reality. Piers has captivated music lovers everywhere and for several decades; he has established himself as a global star with a most wonderful reputation, Mr Lucas said. He’s an inspired pianist who presents the most generous programs to his audience, this is one of the reasons he’s Australia’s most successful classical musician. It’s flattering that he has managed to find the time to play for us locally, considering the demands on his touring schedule. In the Lucas Parklands concerts, Piers will play two Beethoven sonatas and Chopin so you can imagine how incredibly proud and excited I am that he will be performing here. I’m a very big fan personally; I greatly admire everything Piers has achieved throughout his career. I‘m sure music lovers across South East Queensland will enjoy the chance to see and hear him perform in our intimate venue. Piers Lane AO is the Artistic Director of The Sydney International Piano Competition. His career has included concerto performances at the Lincoln Centre in New York and appearances in major piano festivals in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Scandinavia, and elsewhere.
