09.01.2022 John Jock Earl Hodson was an Alawa Man born at old Elsey Station in the Northern Territory in the late 1930's. His mother died during childbirth. So he was raised by his grandmother Jessie Robinson. His childhood was spent at Hodgson Downs and Jilminkin (Duck Creek) Where his sister's still live. Jock started working has as a stockman at the the age of 10 years old and was paid tobacco and clothing for his labour. His well-known uncle Vincent Lingiari fought for Aboriginal ...Stockmen to be paid the same wages as the white stockmen. When Jock was around 13 years old, Jock's cousin brother Harry Spencer joined him droving cattle with Ruby Desatge, that bought the two of them droving down the Marangi track and along the Barkly Tablelands to Dajarra Queensland. Jock met Alma Spain and helped riase her children Gaylene, Phillip Lance and Veroinca. Until Alma had their first child Marjorie, Katrina, Stella and Peter. Jock spent many years on different cattle stations around Dajarra and down the Diamantina Channel Country. Jock was a well known stockman, he would stay in at the camp for many months before coming into town for a gymkhana or rodeo. He loved a beer and spending time with his family. Jock passed from lung cancer in 1993.
