25.01.2022 Environmental hazards/toxins which can impact children - from conception through childhood. While it can be difficult to minimise exposure to many toxins, it is possible to strengthen the body so that it is better able to deal with toxic exposure.

25.01.2022 Day 2 of the Metagenics Integrative Oncology Congress More learning

24.01.2022 Panel discussion on registration of naturopaths and herbalists. I'm in favour of registration, for many reasons. I'm already registered with the Australian Register of Naturopaths and Herbalists (ARONAH). Registration means that patients who choose to come for a consultation can be assured I am qualified and accredited as a Naturopath, Nutritionist and Herbalist

24.01.2022 Is it hayfever or Covid19? This article explains the difference between these two illnesses.

24.01.2022 Interpretating pathology and other test results is an important aspect to providing the best clinical advice. This final session today at the Integria Symposium Livestream will provide up to date information on how to do this

23.01.2022 An important part of naturopathic treatment is educating patients on diet and lifestyle. A study into patients who have (suspected) intestinal permeability showed that the majority of patients had a preference for education about diet and lifestyle changes.

21.01.2022 This is an excellent article on how Covid19 can impact your health longer than the expected 2 weeks. Around 50% of Covid19 patients continue to experience mild to moderate symptoms weeks and sometimes months after acute symptoms have passed. Post viral fatigue is something I see in my naturopathy clinic on a regular basis. Most patients recover over time, how long it takes is individual to each patient.

21.01.2022 Excited about this session on herbs for depression that's not St John's Wort

20.01.2022 Continuing my education today with a livestream seminar on allergies - seasonal, environmental, food. So much to learn between now and 4pm

20.01.2022 I'm eating out more, either with friends or with my parnter. Most cafes and pubs we eat at have been good about social distancing, cleanliness, recording patrons contact details, and generally not having too many people in at one time. We have been turned away fron a couple of small venues as they already had the maximum number of patrons. I'm sharing this article because it sets out what venues should be doing to help slow the spread ov Covid19. It's made me thnk about the places I have chosen to eat at, and what to look for in new places I go to. I consider it a privelige to be able to go to a cafe or pub for a meal, and would like to continue to do so. It helps businesses in my area, and helps me and my partner with our mental health - getting out and about is a positive.

19.01.2022 So I can better help my patients I'm learning more about the Gut-brain connection from Professor Kerry Bone

19.01.2022 I was pleased to see an article that debunked this particular myth that arose early in the Covid19 pandemic crisis. Handwashing is essential in stopping the spread of Covid19. If your hands become irriated, use a good quality skin cream to soothe and repair damaged skin. To keep your immune system in peak condition eat a mostly plant based diet, exercise regularly, and get plenty of sleep.

18.01.2022 So excited to now be a Fellow of the Australian Traditional Medicine Society - this is a prestigious upgrade from being a regular member

18.01.2022 Updating my knowledge on skin health Originally a face to face seminar, it's now a livestream. First topic is the skin immune landscape Skin health and integrity is very relevant at the moment as we all wash our hands or apply hand sanitiser multiple times a day, which has an impact on our skin integrity.

17.01.2022 Livestream from Warwick in QLD - herb drug interactions. A very important topic for all Naturopaths. Professor Kerry Bone will cover the facts and bust a few myths

17.01.2022 Take home message from this morning's webinar - look after your gut to look after your mind

15.01.2022 I help patients become more responsible for their own health, I educate, empower and motivate patients to take responsibility for their ongoing health and wellbeing. Each patient is treated as an individual with a complex interaction of physical and lifestyle factors affecting health and wellbeing. Treatments prescribed by me work with the body to gently nudge it towards a state of health and wellbeing.

15.01.2022 A good alternative to traditional mayonnaise

15.01.2022 Mental Health is a big issue at the moment. Many people are feeling the stresses and strains of the impact of Covid19. If you need help please ask for it. If you see a family member or friend struggling, as them if they are ok. We need to look after each other more than ever now. This article has some good resources you can use and/or pass on to those who need help.

14.01.2022 Preconception care is essential for people planning a pregnancy Naturopathy is ideally placed to help people conceive and give birth to a healthy baby

14.01.2022 You can experience grief from many losses - not just the loss of a loved one. Most people I speak to have lost something because of Covid19, and are feeling grief because of that loss. It could be a lost holiday, lost freedom of movement around your community, lost job, lost income. Check in with your friends and family and ask about what they have lost, share your losses, talking can help

13.01.2022 Metagenics Integrative Oncology Congress 3 days of learning from the comfort of my lounge chair I really enjoy the opportunity to learn more about cancer care and how to help cancer patients have better quality of life and better treatment outcomes.

12.01.2022 I started back to face to face consultations in my clinic at Entire Physio in Queanbeyan last week. I'm lucky because I have a dedicated room that allows me and patients to have the requisite amount of space during consultations. Everyone entering Entire Physio has to either wash their hands or use hand sanitiser. At the end of each appointment I wipe down all hard surfaces with disinfectant wipes, and wash my hands. Covid19 has not gone away, and we all need to take steps to protect ourselves, our families, and our community from infection. Are you back in the office, or other workplace? What are you doing to prevent infection/spread of Covid19?

09.01.2022 There's a lot to be said for choosing a mostlyplant based diet. When I started my weight loss journey 7 years ago I foucssed on what I ate, counting nutrients instead of calories. I lost 35kg, and have kept the weight off for 7 years now. I am still classed as overweight by BMI standards. I eat a mostly plant based diet, focusing on variety and nutrients rather than calories. I workout 3 times a week. If wieght loss is something you struggle with, take care in what you choose to eat. I advocate a mostly plant based diet, yes it's ok to eat some animal protein, choose a variety of vegetabls and fruits every day.

09.01.2022 I recommend that people follow a mostly plant based diet. The secret to eating plant based food is to make it tasty and full of flavour. Here's some great plant based recipes for you to try.

09.01.2022 Second session in today's seminar is on acne and rosacea

08.01.2022 Take away from session on antioxidants and cancer: Plant foods are more than antioxidants, there's polyphenol (8000 different types), and the gut microbiome, which is involved in the metabolism of polyphenols. So, eat a variety of good quality plants as a source of antioxidants and polyphenols rather than take supplements.

05.01.2022 Completing an online course on one of my favourite topics - the gut. Ongoing education is a essential part of my ongoing accreditation and Registration as a Naturopath, Nutritionist and Herbalist

04.01.2022 Day 2 of the NHAA Conference We're starting off discussing the link between the planetary and human microbiome. So interesting

04.01.2022 Cardiovascular (CVD), including heart disease, is under-diagnosed in women. This is because symptoms in women are often non-specific, and they develop these symptoms later than men. Risk factors for CVD in women include gestational diabetes and hypertension in pregnancy, early menopause, depression, smoking, obesity, low physical activity, hypertension and high cholesterol. I can help you reduce your risks of having a heart attack. Whi this photo? The next post will explain.

02.01.2022 I really enjoyed reading this article about chronic pain and exercise. You may not know that I live with chronic pain on a daily basis - I'm good at hiding it I have chronic back pain and manage to exercise at the gym 3 times a week. It's essential you find the right professional to help you develop an exercise program that will improve your fitness, strengthen areas that need strengthening and not cause you more pain. I have had the benefit of the expertise of exercise physiologists, and physiotherapists that work with people with arthritis and other types of chronic pain. Some days it's hard to exercise, some days it's easy. No matter which it is I always feel better after exrcise. What's my motivation? I want to have as much fitness and flexibility as I can so I can do the things I want to do.

01.01.2022 Including foods in your daily diet like leafy greens, beetroot, high quality chocolate or cacao, berries, raw garlic, green tea, and herbs and spices like ginger and turmeric will help to reduce your risk of developing CVD. The Mediterranean Diet is the most researched diet and probably the most recommended for managing risk factors associate with CVD. The Mediterranean Diet is mostly plant based with high amounts of vegetables and fruits and good oil eg olive oil. I can assess your current diet and lifestyle and help you reduce your risks of having a heart attack.
