24.01.2022 Today’s #ArarityAday is #RussianPorcelain - from the #Gardner factory near Moscow, in the early #19thCentury . He was actually an Englishman, and began in 1765 in a small way. By the early 19th century they were very successful, and even produced pieces for the Imperial family. Note the very French appearance of this piece, almost identical to #ParisPorcelain of the same period..... luckily this example is marked. A great #RussianRarity! See it on our website in the ‘a Rarity a-Day’ section. #MooraboolAntiques #Moorabool_Antiques #AAADA #AntiqueCeramics #HandPainted #RussianAntique #AntiquePorcelain

24.01.2022 Today’s rarity... a pair of #BowPorcelain children representing ‘Summer’ and ‘Spring’, circa 1765. On our website, fresh as fresh can be, a part of our current #aRarityaDay promo, with many more exciting items still to come..... I’d better get cataloguing! #moorabool_antiques #MooraboolAntiques #AAADA #AntiquesAustralia #AntiquePorcelain #AntiqueEnglishPorcelain #FineAntiques #Rococo #18thCentury #CoverMeWithFlowers #GrapePhoto #GeelongDiscovery #VisitGeelong

21.01.2022 Another fine #ParisPorcelain plate, circa 1810- this time a hunt scene, the hours baying and the dismounted rider holding his horse steady.... and what a fine #horse it is! 20.01.2022 Some #Derbyshire porcelains from our #aRarityAday we are currently running on the website. Plates are #DerbyPorcelain, left is a plate from an interesting service once owned by the fifth Duke of Westminster, and painted by the Frenchman George Complim. Right is some stunning flowers we’re tempted to attribute to the master flower painter #WilliamBillingsley. At the back is a remarkable piece of #PinxtonPorcelain, apparently a shape not recorded in the literature. On th...e base we have an old pasted label stating ‘other pieces from this service had a mark, thus: (pic of a moon and star) . This is rather exciting, as a single service exists with this mark; it was produced at the factory when John Coke, the local landed gent, was the sole proprietor - and the crescent & star mark is taken from the Coke family crest.... so perhaps made for John Coke himself, he certainly had a yea service made with views of his estate on it - we had the teapot a few years ago! This view we have identified as depicting the #TissingtonSpires, in #Dovedale, #Derbyshire , and would have been copied from a ‘Romantic scenery’ print of the time. An exciting group of rarities just added to moorabool.com -and many more to come! #MooraboolAntiques #Moorabool_Antiques #AAADA #DerbyshireHistory #HandPainted #EnglishPorcelain #BritishCeramics #GeorgianAntiques #Pinxton See more

10.01.2022 The ‘Two Quail’ pattern features on this #BowPorcelain plate from the 1750’s - a design borrowed from the Japanese #Kakiemon products of the later 17th early 18th century. This is a rather fine example on a serving dish, our latest #aRarityaDay on moorabool.com #moorabool_antiques #MooraboolAntiques #AAADA #AntiqueEnglishPorcelain #AntiquesAustralia

09.01.2022 Every now & then you find a special piece that really ‘speaks’ to you. Like this amazing Liverpool Porcelain plate, 1763-5..... today’s #aRarityaDay release on our website. It’s quite early, by James Pennington while he operated at Brownlow Hill, Liverpool. James was the first of three brothers in Liverpool (also John & Seth) who all made porcelain there. James was earlier, and his wares of better quality. He took over the earlier factory of William Reid & Co,... who had opened the first porcelain works in Liverpool with the help of a certain Mr William Ball. This potter appears to have been an active agent in the establishment of several of the earliest London porcelain works, with a connection found to both Bow (1745&46) and Limehouse (1747&48). One trail of research has led to a Mr Ball in Philadelphia in the early 1770’s, helping the fledgling American attempt at porcelain making by Bonnin & Morris. With Ball’s expertise, Reid began making a bone-ash body porcelain around 1756, and when James purchased the Reid concern at Brownlow Hill around 1763, he continued to make this same body. Around 1767 he moved to another Liverpool pot works, Park Lane, and the wares connected to this address are different to the earlier period, having a ‘very thin, rather poor glaze and a thin, brittle body’. This plate is in superb condition- a stunner. #moorabool_antiques #MooraboolAntiques #AAADA #AntiqueEnglishPorcelain #AntiqueLiverpoolPorcelain #LiverpoolPorcelain #JamesPennington #BlueAndWhite #Chinoiserie #HandPainted See more
