22.01.2022 We are excited to be implementing the Yondr program from 7-12 in 2021. The Yondr program is anticipated to roll out in Week 4, Term 1 (boarder restrictions permitting). Our current school policy of having mobile phones off and away in your bag has been in place for several years now. To further support students with following teacher instructions and school policy, the Yondr Program employs a simple, lockable pouch that stores their mobile phone. Every student will secure ...their phone in a personally assigned Yondr pouch when they arrive at school each day. Students will maintain possession of their phones and will not use them until their pouches are opened at the end of the school day. This will allow students to utilise their mobile phones when travelling to and from school to support their safety. Students will be issued with their Yondr Pouch, free of charge. Thank you to the parents and students who provided such positive feedback to our email in Term 4, 2020. We have purchased enough unlocking stations to ensure a smooth transition out of the school gates at the end of the day. Staff will be supervising the exits to the school and students will have enough time to make their school bus. We look forward to updating you on the roll out of this fantastic program to support our students to achieve positive social, wellbeing and academic outcomes. As per last year, all questions regarding the program are to be emailed to [email protected]

14.01.2022 Our incredibly talented 7E and 7O classes showed off their knowledge and understanding of Shakespeare’s world and his plays at our annual Shakespeare Show-Off last week. Ms Assaad and Ms McKelvie did a wonderful job inspiring their classes to create fun, engaging, educational displays that were enjoyed by all who visited the Library. The Library looked amazing and there was lots of laughter and learning happening. Now we are just waiting for votes to come in to find out which group was most successful in showing off their ideas. 09.01.2022 Year 7 Science students were tasked with an assessment to make a model of a hypothetical animal that could survive a chosen environment. They had to then write about the adaptations of the animal in terms of how it would survive (e.g. this one can camouflage itself to hide from predators). They then had the option of marketing the model as a toy to a toy company. This Year 7 student made their toy with a card to represent a remote that would 'control' the model as a toy.

08.01.2022 Happy Education Week from the English Faculty! This week the English Faculty celebrated Education Week and Learning Together by encouraging our Year 7 classes to fall in love with a book. Each Year 7 class was invited to participate in speed dating with a book in the school Library. The tables were decorated with roses and candles (flameless of course!) and our school Librarian, Mrs Tierney chose only the very best books to entice our students to fall in love with and find th...eir perfect match Some of our students comments: "Speed dating is the way to go! For Education Week we had some romantic dates with different genres of books to find our perfect match... Hopefully this will help us in the future and expand our knowledge and willingness to read and learn!" Aya "This week Year 7 participated in an activity called "Speed Dating" . Hold on don’t get the wrong idea We we’re dating books !! Yeah, what a unique idea. We read books with different genres such as science fiction , romantic fiction, true stories, adventure, mysteries and historical fiction. Out of those books we found our soulmates aka our favourite book . Hope the Year 7s are currently with their high school sweethearts " Madhu "At MHS, we speed dated with some books to find our perfect match. This was a fun way to do something that typically would be boring and not fun. This activity helped us find books to read in a fun and interesting way. Our entire class enjoyed it and I hope something like that happens again." Harry #EducationWeek #LearningTogether #EdWeek20

02.01.2022 EDUCATION WEEK CAPA (TERM 3 -WK 3 2020) The CAPA department explored the theme ‘Learning Together’ for Education Week with an online performance competition for stage 5 music students. They were tasked with recording a song of their own choice, at home or at school and then uploading their video to the Google Classroom. Year 9 Elective Music class displayed great talent with several enthusiastic participants, including pianists and vocalists. Year 10 Elective Music had some... excellent performances and took the opportunity to submit their original compositions. In Visual Arts the collaborative project undertaken involved miniature art works on ‘Post-its’. This collaborative initiative was open to Year 7 - 11 Visual Arts classes. The task was to create a personalised design that reflected their personality and interests. This project reflected the idea of individual (‘Post-its’) works that combined to form one major art work. This collaboration celebrated the Educational Week Theme of ‘Learning Together’.
