22.01.2022 Had 2020 been a normal year, today wouldve been the NSW Group Review with squadrons from across the state coming together for friendly competitions in field, band, and education. So instead of marching today, were taking a look back at some photos from the 2015 event held at The Crest, Bass Hill. See if you can recognise any of our current members in these pictures. #cadets #volunteering #marching #truelocal #band #moorebankblackbirds

20.01.2022 Had 2020 been a normal year, the squadron tonight would be finalising their packing and getting ready for our bus trip to Queensland for the Australian Air League, Federal Review. Unfortunately COVID-19 got in the way of that, so instead of living off Maccas and sitting on the long bus trip to the sunshine state, we’re sharing some pictures from our previous adventures to both Canberra in 2014 and Ballarat in 2016! #cadets #volunteering #truelocal #lovelivo #moorebankblackbirds

19.01.2022 For our #waybackwednesday this week, we take a look at the time we visited the Royal Australian Air Force Hot Air Ballon when we were up in Tamworth a few years back for the annual Country Music Festival. 17.01.2022 Back by popular demand, weve brought back our #MeetTheOfficers Series for a special edition. This week we have a short profile on the Australian Air Leagues Chief Commissioner, James Dixon (V17789). 1. Date of Joining and what inspired you to do so? 14th August 1975. Like many 10 year olds, I was fascinated by planes. Many of my friends at the time were joining the scouts, but I wanted to do something different.... 2. Whats your favourite part of the Australian Air League? Meeting people - attending squadron parades and flying. As I have also been a Field Commissioner at both Group and Federal - I guess I also like drill! 3. Whats your fondest memory associated with the Australian Air League? One of my fondest memories is the first time I went flying - which probably wouldve been in about 1976 in a Cessna 172 from Moorabbin Airport in Melbourne. This was the first time I was ever in a plane and I remember it very clearly. Another memory is attending an ANZAC day parade in the late 1970s, where I got to see many Word War I veterans march - I now feel very privileged to have seen these veterans. 4. Whats next, any big ideas for the Australian Air League moving into the future? COVID-19 has been a big challenge for everyone in the Air League - but it has also shown what we can do as an organisation. Some of the initiatives that have been implemented by squadrons such as Moorebank I would like to see continue. Maybe we can set up a virtual squadron for people that live in regional and remote areas that wouldnt otherwise be able to attend Air League. #volunteering #cadets #truelocal #lovelivo #moorebankblackbirds

17.01.2022 Last night Squadron OC Mr Bell made a special presentation to Alex Munoz, presenting him with his promotion to Second Officer and the appointment of Squadron Quartermaster. Well done and good luck Alex! #cadets #volunteering #leadership #training #truelocal #lovelivo #moorebankblackbirds

17.01.2022 Celebrating the Queen's Birthday this weekend, Squadron OC Mr Bell recalls a story which took place some 66 years ago. During the 1954 Royal Tour of Australia, I had the honour to meet Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh at Katoomba with the Australian Air League. We all travelled up from Sydney on a train and then preceded to line the streets to form a guard of honour for the Royal Party. Where I was standing was right near the station s...o just as they got off the Royal Train and into their car, The Duke went on to quite sternly tell one of my cadets "Don't drop that bloody flag son" as he was a little unsteady with it. The story didn't end there though, because this was on a workday I had to call in sick from work and I didn't think anything of it until the day after. The next day, the photo here was splashed across the front page of the newspaper in Sydney. There I was saluting the Queen and not looking very 'sick'. Now the response I gave my boss I'll never forget, I said "I believe the Queen is a little more important than work!" #volunteering #history #cadets #sydneyhistory #truelocal #moorebankblackbirds

17.01.2022 The squadron band was honoured to take part in the Sydney ANZAC Day Parade yesterday. It was great to be marching down Elizabeth Street again as we were doing what we love which is giving back to the community! #volunteering #anzacday #cadets #moorebankblackbirds

17.01.2022 #OnThisDay in 2017, Moorebank Squadron members inspected VH-CAT: a World War II US Navy flying boat which later served as a firefighting aircraft in South America before coming into the ownership of the Catalina Flying Memorial here in Sydney, Australia. The aircraft is still undergoing restoration at Bankstown Airport which is where we were lucky enough to be shown around and given a talk and tour of the aircraft. #otd #avgeek #cadets #fbf #pilotlife #volunteering #flashbackfriday #lovelivo #truelocal #moorebankblackbirds

16.01.2022 NSW Group NCO, Band, and Training Camp | Had 2020 been a normal year, squadron members wouldve been arriving home tonight after spending the weekend taking part in leadership seminars, band tuition/ training and of course the formal dinner which is always a hit! Check out these photos we compiled from over the years and see if you can recognise any of our current members here. #cadets #avgeek #volunteering #leadership #training #marching #truelocal #moorebankblackbirds

16.01.2022 This week for #flashbackfriday we take another look at the 2012 Open Day of the The Australian Air League Air Activities Centre Camden, following the parade there was a fun day set up complete with a waterslide down the hill. 16.01.2022 Continuing on from our recent #MeetTheOfficers profile of the Australian Air Leagues Chief Commissioner, today we have a short profile on the Australian Air League NSW Group Executive Commissioner, Lieutenant Commissioner Jeffrey Remington DSA MSA (N8228). 1. Date of Joining and what inspired you to do so? 10th April 1972. My godfather was the person who inspired me to join, he was a member fo the Royal Australian Air Force and a member of the air league as well. Also like ...many 10 year olds I wanted to fly! 2. Whats your favourite part of the Australian Air League? Meeting people, watching and assisting fellow air league members to grow and achieve greater horizons whether it was in education or simply in a general sense and seeing them become young men. 3. Whats your fondest memory associated with the Australian Air League? Travelling to Melbourne for the Federal Reviews by train and meeting other members from across New South Wales but also meeting new members whilst being billeted out with families from Victorian squadrons and becoming friends with them. Friendship is an important aspect of the league and so many people forget that. 4. Whats next, any big ideas for the Australian Air League moving into the future? Combining a state into one group was an experience and one I had never thought of doing within my first year as Group Executive Commissioner, and then came COVID-19 which has been the biggest challenge to date in a number of aspects trying to get specific information from the governments is not easy, but having learnt that a number of the younger members have embraced and are engaging on a number IT platforms is encouraging for the future. #volunteering #cadets #truelocal #lovelivo #moorebankblackbirds

12.01.2022 Had 2020 been a normal year, today wouldve been the NSW Group Ceremonial parade through Sydney with a commemoration in Martin Place before the presentation and awards ceremony attended by the Governor of NSW. 01.01.2022 "We put wings on your dreams", reads a 1990s poster for The Australian Air League Air Activities Centre Camden. The Air Leagues very own flying school is now open again following the easing of government restrictions and approval from the Australian Air League NSW Group. This means budding aviators and student pilots can once again take to skies on weekends (with social distancing measures and preventative protocols in place), taking inspiration from the Leagues motto members can once again be free from the bonds of the earth - A Vinculo Terrae. #avgeek #history #pilotlife #cadets #volunteering #studentpilot #truelocal #moorebankblackbirds

01.01.2022 "The Australian Air League offers Opportunity for Australian Youth" reads a 1940s promotional flyer advertising the Australian Air League, this principle is still at the centre of everything we do at Moorebank Squadron. We recognise that behind our members and cadets, at every event, every function and every parade is our dedicated army of supporters made up of the dads. Thank you for helping shape our young men into the pilots, musicians, leaders, and aviators of the future! #fathersday #truelocal #lovelivo #moorebankblackbirds
