25.01.2022 Happy International Women's Day - Rose Training Australia would like to acknowledge a world first for women everywhere! Australian woman - Lois D'Arcy was the f...irst independent civil marriage celebrant ever appointed in the world! Her appointment is dated 19 July 1973. Lois D'Arcy was, at the time, a young mother aged 26. Speaking of her watershed appointment, D'Arcy remarked - "the pioneer civil celebrants believed they were part of an innovative cultural challenge. They developed a deeper understanding of the purposes of ceremony, and believed celebrants should pursue excellence in every ceremony and in a variety of ceremonies." - wikipedia.org D'Arcy and her female colleagues entered an age-old male dominated role - to administer ceremony. This year will mark 48 years since that historical change - what has happened? In the years since her appointment civil marriage ceremonies have increased to 80% for all weddings - becoming the preferred option for Australian couples. In Australia today - more wedding ceremonies are officiated by women Marriage Celebrants than men! I’ve thought about posting for a few days, unsure of how to frame it, but if I wait for this to be perfect, it will never happen. So here are some of the highlights: I appeared in Style magazine Attended Alex and Damo’s wedding with my love @alexandrapaterson Discovered good quality tequila ... Appeared on tv 3 times Scrapbooked our European holiday Became an unofficial auntie to Noah @camorrisfamspam Featured in an exhibition #ido Appeared in the paper Was named in the top 10 Brisbane Celebrants Got a fringe @hairbychloealyce Sold a car and got a new one Created an amazing photo shoot that was then published by @totheaisleaustralia Remembered what slowing down was. I came to enjoy it and now value my time differently Cleaned everything Spent more time with Florence @frolicking_with_florence Reassessed values Had a private tour of Australia Zoo with my 5 year old nephew @things_nini_loves Went to an oyster festival Fell more in love with my girl tribe @themarryingkind Spoke at an international celebrant conference #celebrantopia2020 @jenniferclaireofficial Married many fabulous couples! @ Brisbane, Queensland, Australia See more
