17.01.2022 https://www.news.com.au///a77a24b73539a0c1685006ea8fca1623 Franking Credits also known as Imputation Credits are a type of tax credit that allows Australian Companies to pass on tax paid at the company level to shareholders. The benefits are these franking credits can be used to reduce income tax paid on dividends or potentially be received as a tax refund. For someone who pays no tax, they can claim a refund for all their franking credits. Is that good or unfair? SHOULD THE ATO STOP GIVING CASH REFUNDS? Whats your take?

15.01.2022 It was alleged that the accountant lodged 21 tax returns without client permission in 2016-17 and altered the bank account details of his clients to divert ATO refunds to his personal bank account details. What a shame! https://www.smartcompany.com.au//accountant-jail-tax-retu/

06.01.2022 Some facts about the proposed ALP tax changes: 1. Negative gearing - All existing negatively geared investments will be quarantined and continue under the existing rules. But the ALP will limit future negative gearing to new housing only. Losses from negative gearing other investments, like shares, will not be allowed to be claimed against salary and wage income but can be claimed against other positively geared assets and carried forward. 2. All existing investments will con...tinue under existing CGT rules. All new investments will be subject to a 25 per cent discount, rather than the existing 50 per cent. New investments by superannuation funds and small businesses will be exempt from the changes. 3. Franking Credits- To take dividend imputation back to the original rules of simply stopping double taxation of dividends. No cash refunds. If you pay no tax then you dont need a franking credit because youre not being double taxed. Pensioners and part-pensioners would be exempt and still receive cash refunds. https://www.news.com.au///4d98159e1eff79cdb4e6d928f6376ee5

04.01.2022 Tis the season to be jolly! But ho-ho-hold up before you start making spirits bright and rewarding your employees with gifts or parties this Christmas, as fringe benefits tax may apply when providing all the trimmings. So you dont get your tinsel in a tangle for your work Christmas party, consider: How much it costs Where and when it is held - a party held on work premises on a normal work day is treated differently to an event outside of work... Who is invited - is it just employees or are partners, clients or suppliers also invited? Similarly, where you provide Christmas gifts, youll need to consider: The amount you spend The type of gift - gifts such as wine or hampers are treated differently to gifts like tickets to a movie or sporting event Who you are giving the gift to - there are different rules for employees and clients/suppliers. 02.01.2022 The Board of Taxation will undertake a review of the tax treatment of granny flat arrangements as the government seeks to respond to the threat of elder abuse. According to the assistant treasurer, Mr Robert Stuart, the review will consider how any changes could raise awareness and provide incentives for older people and their families to enter formal and legally enforceable family arrangements. The board is expected to commence the review in early 2019, including broad consu...ltation with stakeholders, with a final report due to the government in the second half of 2019.
