25.01.2022 Everyone knows that cleaning your teeth is important for your oral health, but did you know our eating habits plays a major role in tooth decay? Sugars in the food and drinks we eat are taken up by bacteria, producing acids that attack the outer layer of tooth enamel which causes decay. We recommend for you to limit your sugary treats to meal times, rather than as a snack and drink fluoridated tap water throughout the day. Chewing sugar-free gum after eating can also help to stimulate saliva that neutralises the acid produced by bacteria. Pay attention to nutrition labels on food and drink to check for hidden sugar content. Not only is this good for your mouth, it's probably good for your general health as well! #dentalhealthweek

16.01.2022 It's Dental Health Week this week! The event being held from 5-11th August this year is run by the Australian Dental Association is aimed to make everyone aware of the key things they need to do to keep their teeth and gums healthy. This year, we're asking "How's your oral health tracking?" We want everyone to take a look at their own oral health regimes, and question whether theyre on track and caring for their teeth properly. The key messages are: 1. Brush twice daily with... fluoride toothpaste 2. Use floss at least once a day 3. Eat healthy and have less sugary drinks and food 4. Have regular check ups with your dentist Follow us for tips during the week. To find out more, visit dentalhealthweek.com.au #dentalhealthweek

10.01.2022 MOUTHGUARDS: Contact sports can result in injuries such as a cracked tooth, a knocked out tooth, cut lip or tongue and even broken jaws. It is important to have an appropriate mouthguard to protect yourself against such injuries. Did you know the Australia Dental Association recommends AGAINST using over-the-counter or bite-and-boil mouthguards because they are loosely fitted to the teeth, may not absorb impact properly and may not adequately protect against injury? Custom-fitted mouthguards provided by a dentist are designed to mould to your individual mouth and provides the best protection. Contact us to find out more: (03) 9580 3323 [email protected]

07.01.2022 Did you know only 51% of Australians brush their teeth twice a day? How often you brush, how long you brush, the kind of technique and the toothbrush you use all impact on the effectiveness of your brushing. Here are some tips we recommend to make sure your brushing is doing the job properly: - Brush your teeth for at least 2 minutes, twice a day. - Choose a toothpaste with fluoride - Use a toothbrush with soft bristles and a small head.... - When brushing, holding the toothbrush at the gumline at a 45 degree angle. - Dont press too hard this can damage gums & tooth enamel. - Replace your toothbrush every 3 months. #dentalhealthweek

06.01.2022 When you jump in the shower, you wouldn't clean only half your body before you jump out again, would you? Did you know that brushing only cleans 60% of the full surface area of your teeth? That's why flossing is not an optional extra when it comes to your oral health. Make it part of your daily routine to floss once a day. Children should start to floss as soon as they have two teeth that touch side-by-side. Ask us to demonstrate flossing technique and whether other interdental cleaning aids may be suitable for you at your next dental appointment. #dentalhealthweek
