20.01.2022 Another fine midweek afternoon for a recreational sail at MSC. A nice breeze as the sun began to set, followed by a mad rush to un-rig in the failing light,

20.01.2022 The first day of August presented another great opportunity for some recreational sailing on the waters off MSC. Today's sunshine and Northerly wind attracted a variety of sailors keen for some exercise. The blue Club Laser finally has a working self-bailer, a big thanks to Simon for his gift of a little maintenance.

Well done team. These pictures are from Saturday, Anna & 'the Flying Echidna" hit the water for the first time, the trainee group try sailing the Laser and using the kite on Pacer Jay https://youtu.be/0UiWOgPDajY and racing in the arvo proves very challenging in the dying winds of the second race.

15.01.2022 Lessons Learnt: Kayak and PWC capsize There have been two recent capsizings on Victoria waters, where vessel operators were rescued after activating distress be...acons. On Thursday 28 May a fisher on a personal watercraft (PWC) was 3nm south of Portland chasing tuna when his craft took water and rolled. While he had a full suite of safety gear inside his craft - including emergency position indicating radio beacon (EPIRB), personal locator beacon (PLB), marine radio, flares, mobile phone, torch and whistle - it was not easy to access and it took some time before he was able to balance the PWC and retrieve the PLB and phone. On Saturday 30 May a sea-kayaker was separated from his kayak in the north end of Port Phillip Bay, in cold waters and a strong northerly. He was left with a paddle, paddle float, lifejacket and PLB. While they were both stranded in the water and boating alone, the PLB was a robust method of alerting authorities to their predicament. The PLBs provided the GPS locations to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) rescue coordination centre in each case. AMSA initiated local responses, and both men were pulled from the water in about one hour of raising the alarm. Lessons Learnt Carry a distress beacon and set it off as soon as you get in trouble. Take at least one other tool to raise the alarm, such as a mobile phone in a waterproof pouch or marine radio. Remember, if you are alone and enter the water, you may only have access to what you are carrying on your person. If you are paddling - attach a tether to your craft to prevent separation. Practise your skills in all conditions and be proficient at getting back onboard. Dress for being submerged. Port Phillip Bay is currently about 13C, and can get to 9.5C in midwinter. Coastal waters are also now below 15C. Be aware that the risk of drowning increases nearly five times if the water temperature is below 15C Remember the 1:10:1 rule of cold shock: You'll have just 1 min to get your breathing under control, 10 mins before losing dexterity, and 1 hour before losing consciousness. 13.01.2022 Great to see the juniors getting out for a sail. It was amazing to see how comfortable they all were after such a long time away from it. Thanks to the photographers Anna and Zoe.

13.01.2022 Big day at Mordi SC today. Working Bee, got so many things done, thanks to so many people for spending some time at th he club doing the things that need to be done. List list is long... And best of all, the juniors (Riley, Hannah & Harry) had some practice sailing in gusty condition in the arvo.

10.01.2022 Throw back to late last year. A little Video by one of our Youth Sailors.

10.01.2022 For those lucky to reside or work within 5 km of MSC, no better way to reach your permitted daily exercise quota than to go for a quick sail. Last weekend a few Waszps and a sailboarder launched from Mordi. During the week a couple of Lasers also enjoyed some on water exercise. Great to finally see some OTB sailors launching directly in front of a sailing club! If you're able to go for a sail, post your photos or forward to MSC [email protected]

09.01.2022 This is quite Brilliant, especially for the older folk who remember the magazine. I just hope they do a bit of facebook.

08.01.2022 Another great day with the Juniors last Saturday. Great to see Chloe and Cameron out for their first sail of the season. Looking forward to having our 25km+ sailors along next week.

08.01.2022 We reckon this is a great project, Mordi Creek could do with a seabin too.

08.01.2022 Some great sailing weather was on offer this weekend. If you want your sailing fix, you gotta be quick rigging and de-rigging & keep to your 5km radius/wear your mask & adhere to distancing guidelines. Great to see a number of OTB sailors with smiles under their masks. I know other sailors at various times enjoyed their exercise quota out on the water, it's a small window of opportunity to capture some images over 2 brief visits during a weekend to the beach in front of MSC.

08.01.2022 We just thought is was time to look back on the last 12 months of action at MSC, remember when..... Thanks everyone for being part of our year and making it a great club to be a part of.

07.01.2022 We were finally back on the water on Saturday! Tackers, Junior, Youth and the rest. (Unfortunately no double handers & no Sharpies...perhaps next week?) It was teriffic to see the young ones out in the healthy fresh air, sunlight and saltwater. A great start with Six Sabres, Six Open Skiffs, Six Lasers of various rig, a Waszp, a Pacer and a Europe Dinghy all enjoying two races in 10-15knts. Thank you to all our mighty volunteers, our Canteen, our Bar and our Covid Safety officers. All went exceedingly well. (slight lack of photos due to photographers actually sailing)

05.01.2022 Super day out on the bay, adventure and excitement for young & old. (A few more knots in the wind would have been nice) #openskiff #mordialloc #learntosail

04.01.2022 In Melbourne it's hard to look forward at the moment, so let's look back to better times. This was a fantastic day after the junior sleep over, we had Discover Sailing Day, Kids in Sharpies, a spit roast lunch, a little more free sailing and then home to bed. This is the recipe for success at Mordialloc Sailing Club. #vicsharpies #openskiff
