24.01.2022 Ps Inocencio and Nata’lia Melo lead Christian Aid Society in Beira Mozambique and they shared Rosa’s Success Story Rosa Mardencio is 15 years old. She lives with her widowed mother and sister in Muabvi, a village on the outskirts of Beira, Mozambique. Muabvi is one of the poorest villages in the Beira district and is part of the Orphans and Widows Assistance Program carried out by ACC (Associacao de Ajuda Crista - Christian Aid Society) About 3 years ago, one of our members,... Fernando, was visiting the village looking for potential beneficiaries and he was introduced to Rosa. She was desperate for help as she had been forced to leave school because of their situation. She told Fernando: We are going through hardship, due to the loss of our father. We hardly have meals in our family because my mum is unemployed and she is sick. I was forced to drop school because of lack of money for school fees, school materials and uniform. When Rosa’s family became part of our program, her mother, Antonia, was given a small loan to start a business and training in finances. Rosa was given school fees, uniform and materials to go back to school. Rosa is now in Grade 10 and her younger sister, Amelia, who is also helped by the program, is in Grade 3. Rosa’s mother told us: I am very thankful for the assistance we have from ACC. I am now able to offer 3 meals a day to my daughters and both are in school. I am running a small business of selling dried fish that I buy from the ocean and sell it in this village. This business and the training I got from ACC have enabled me to get some money and save part of it. This helps me cover some household expenses and sometimes we receive food from ACC in order to improve our family diet. Currently, our program is assisting 250 orphaned children and 165 unprivileged widows in the Beira district. Your support would enable us to reach more families in need. We thank you for any assistance you can give. It would be greatly appreciated.

13.01.2022 STORY OF FATIMA DUZENTO (widow) My name is Fatima Duzento, a widow aged 72. I live in Nhangau Beira. Nhangau is on the outskirts of Beira along the coast of Indian Ocean. I came to live here in order to practice subsistence farming and my husband to practice subsistence fishing. Unfortunately my husband died 5 years ago. Then my son was taking care of me. Unluckily, my son also passed away in 2018 and his wife died in 2019, leaving behind three daughters. Therefore, I cur...rently take care of three grand children. As a widow life has become hard. The situation became rather worse when my house was affected by Cyclone Idai in 2019. The roof and windows were destroyed. Fortunately, in November 2020 I was contacted by Associação de Ajuda Cristã (AAC) during their survey to benefit from the rehabilitation of my house which includes roofing, plastering, doors and windows fixing. I am very pleased with the help from AAC. Many sincere thanks to all the supporters of this work. New roof of Fatima Duzento’s house
