24.01.2022 Add your name to the petition to stop Labor's electric vehicle tax: https://greens.org.au/vic/campaigns/ev-tax We should be making it cheaper and easier for Vic...torians to purchase cars that reduce pollution. But over the weekend we discovered that Labor is planning a tax on electric vehicles. This is so disappointing. While the world is moving fast to lower emissions through new technology, Victoria is now lagging behind. The Victorian Greens will oppose Labor’s electric vehicle tax in the Victorian Parliament. But we need your help to help them change course, so please sign the petition! A tax on electric cars is a big backwards step. Victoria should be focused on lowering emissions and addressing the climate emergency.

24.01.2022 BREAKING: The youngest daughter of the ‘Biloela family’, Tharnicaa, is being medically evacuated to Perth after she was hospitalised with a suspected blood infection on Christmas Island, according to Change.org.

24.01.2022 Today is Trans Day of Remembrance, marking the end of Trans Awareness Week. Today is an opportunity to pause and to honour the memory of those who have los...t their lives because of transphobia and discrimination. It’s also a day to celebrate the strength of the trans community in the face of adversity and the long history of activism that has sought to make the world a safer and more inclusive place for trans people. Today is a reminder for allies of the trans community to make sure we’re stepping up our support and advocacy for trans and gender diverse people all year round. I won’t stop fighting, both inside and outside Parliament, to make the world a better place for all LGBTIQ+ people.

19.01.2022 Say hi to your new sworn in Greens councillors (from left to right)... Cr Adam Pulford, North-East Ward Cr Angelica Panopoulos, North-West Ward Cr James Conlan,... South Ward Cr Mark Riley, South Ward As I said in my speech last night, I’m looking forward to working collaboratively with my fellow councillors over the next four years. I’m looking forward to putting aside the deal making and politicking. And most importantly, I’m looking forward to giving the people of Moreland the leadership that they deserve.

19.01.2022 Congratulations Adam Pulford, Angelica Panopoulos, Mark Riley, and James Conlan for all being elected to Moreland Council! We could not have achieved this without our incredibly dedicated members and volunteers. Unfortunately there is a bitter taste to the result due to the vote-rigging allegations for North West Ward, which could result in the North West Ward election having to be re-run. Watch this space!

19.01.2022 This morning I was interviewed on ABC News Radio by Sammy J about Council's decision to refuse demolition of 65 The Grove, Coburg. Here's a snippet of the reco...rding. If I had more time I would've mentioned that the reason councils find themselves in these difficult situations is because you can drive trucks through the loopholes in our heritage laws which reward demolition by neglect. Planning Minister Richard Wynne MP had the opportunity to tighten the state's heritage laws through new legislation last week. This includes a ban on developers from building on their site for 10 years if they illegally demolish. Does this go far enough? We know developers are more than happy to wait out those time frames. I'd like to see severe financial penalties and clear disincentives for doing the wrong thing, like bans on building one storey above the original height, the requirement to create a public park, or total reconstruction (where appropriate). Our city should not be a developer's playground. We need robust planning and heritage laws to ensure the places we love are not willfully destroyed.

18.01.2022 Always was, always will be Aboriginal land. "All Australians should celebrate and be proud of the culture, survival and achievements of the oldest living c...ulture on Earth, and NAIDOC Week is our opportunity to do that. But in order to do this we must recognise and come to terms with the impact that invasion, and the creation of the Australian nation has had on First Nations peoples." 17.01.2022 I'm extremely disappointed that the Andrews Government has once again ignored community concerns, and approved another duck shooting season. While native duck n...umbers continue to decline each year, the Andrews Government appears beholden to a small number of recreational shooters. In 2021, it is unconscionable that the Victorian Labor Government continues to allow the legal slaughter of native ducks. If you'd like to share your disappointment with the Premier and Agriculture Minister, you can do so here: melbourne.good.do/victoriangreens/banduckshooting [Image description: A screenshot of a tweet from @SamanthaRatnam: BREAKING: The Andrews Government has today confirmed that a 2021 duck shooting season will go ahead - despite growing community opposition and native duck numbers declining every year.]

05.01.2022 MORELAND BINS -- QUICK UPDATE (aka what’s bin happening in Moreland!) I've heard from some residents this week about their bins being collected late, in par...ticular green bins (food and garden waste). I raised this with Council Officers and they explained it's because we have a number of our waste trucks currently off the road for repairs. They mentioned it should only be affecting people living in the north of Moreland (as our waste arrangements are managed separately in different parts of Moreland). To work around this temporary truck shortage, Council is doing some double-shifts and prioritising picking up garbage and recycling bins (red and yellow ones). This has meant that some green bins have been collected around half to 1 day behind their usual schedule. The trucks are being repaired consecutively, so there may be some delays up until late June / early July, but the delays should get shorter as more of our trucks return to normal operations (newly repaired!) If you live in the north of Moreland and your bins or green bin haven't been collected at the normal time, this is likely why. Council is still collecting bins, but they might just be later than usual. Let me know if you're having issues and want me to follow it up with Council
