21.01.2022 Trans day of remembrance 20th Nov: A time to honour the memory of those whose lives have been lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. Transgender Day of Remembrance is an opportunity for communities to come together and remember transgender and gender-nonconforming people who have lost their lives through violence and hate crime. It is an opportunity not only to pause to remember those we have lost, but to help raise awareness about the persistent stigma and discrimination experienced by this community, and to help do something about it. #transremembranceday
21.01.2022 A big shout out to Jay Frances who won the Youth Contribution award in this years Moreland awards. Well done Jay. Your contribution to the community has been amazing!!! Jay has spent the last year volunteering with Moreland FReeZA and has been a warm and inviting presence to other young people in the Oxygen Youth Space. Since volunteering with Oxygen, Jay has advocated for other young people of Moreland through events and workshops that provide our youth with links to O...xygen services and other amazing services in Moreland. Jay has presented at local High Schools such as Coburg High to talk to students about services Oxygen provide and to promote events they might be interested in. Jay has always advocated for diverse and inclusive spaces that are safe for everyone to enjoy and even helped in the recent Moreland City Council video for IDAHOBIT Day. During Covid-19 times, Jay has created, edited and produced short self-care videos of Moreland Youth Staff so they could be shared on social media to assist in keeping connected with our youth. https://www.youtube.com/watch

18.01.2022 Part 2 of 2 for this weeks Picture Perfect is from the super talented Bailey from the @isolatedmelbourneman Series! What Bailey had to say on this awesome creation: Bored hands are becoming green thumbs in isolation. Starting the garden I likely never would have got around to if not for isolation, watering my lettuce and watching the birds fly by is a silver lining of the current circumstances. Also largely motivated and inspired by the green thumb morale of my Fawkner neighbours whose gardens are incredible/ plentiful. We even just donated our first batch of parsley for food relief through ‘Fawkner Commons’. Make sure you go give Bailey a follow on Instagram to keep up to date with the series! #art #artistsoninstagram #isolatedmelbournemanseries #isolatedmelbournemanartseries #morelandyouth

12.01.2022 How has COVID-19 impacted your life? In response to the Victorian COVID-19 state of disaster, we’re seeking input from community members to learn more about th...e social and economic impacts of this emergency. We’ve commissioned an independent researcher called Wallis Social and Market Research to facilitate the survey via phone interviews and online written surveys. You may be contacted in the next week asking if you’d like to participate in the survey. The survey is open until Tuesday 22 September. We are interested in hearing from all members of the community and welcome everyone to participate. The information we gather will assist us to determine what support and resources are needed by the community - particularly those more vulnerable - on our journey to recovery. Please note, the survey is completely anonymous and voluntary. To take the survey or find out more information on how to help us plan our recovery, visit conversations.moreland.vic.gov.au/covidsurvey
