24.01.2022 It was great to have Big Picture Education Australia co-founder Viv White at the school last week to continue her mentorship of our MHS Big Picture Academy students and their advisers. Viv spent time working with the group of Year 12 Big Picture students who plan to present their final project to academics and researchers at the University of Newcastle and the University of Western Sydney, to hopefully gain entry to undergraduate programmes in 2021. Our 2020 School Captain,... Aiden Brown, is hoping to commence a degree in Software Engineering at the University of Newcastle and Joshua Yee hopes to be enrolled in the Bachelor of Health Science (Sports and Exercise) at Western Sydney University. They will join the three students from the same year group, Abbey Bennett Jamie-Lee Parsons and Lochie Westfall who have already commenced their degrees at the University of Newcastle, this year. This is the first group of Year 12s to graduate from the MHS Big Picture Academy, with all of the graduates have a plan in place for further study, or employment, once they complete their studies, and present their final projects next week (Week 6). We wish our Big Picture students all the best for their futures and know they will apply the valuable learning, research and employment skills they have learned as part of the MHS Big Picture Academy to find their success, and be lifelong learners.

16.01.2022 I was so very proud of Ms Pratt and the group of 13 students who attended the excursion to Newcastle Port Authority and businesses focused on import and distribution on Thursday. Staff at every venue including Beresfield Bowling Club where they had lunch, complimented the group on their excellent behaviour and manners. Our thanks to Ms Kerr for providing us with the opportunity. Our students learned about the myriad of careers available in sourcing, importing, transporting ...and delivering goods all around the world. Computer specialists, water pilots and captains, stevedores, accountants, legal representatives, customs specialists and sales. There were even more career options our students exposed to during the excursion. Principal, Cheri McDonald.

03.01.2022 REMEMBERANCE DAY 2020 Today, our school came together to reflect and pay tribute to the personal sacrifice and dedication of our veterans at a school Remembrance Day Assembly. Our new school leaders led the special assembly that shared stories of veterans from the First World War, shone a light on the sacrifice of our Indigenous and Aboriginal veterans, and the many Australian women who were also on the frontline as nurses, caring for the injured and maimed. ... A wreath was laid by our school cenotaph by our school captains Bryce Webber and Kayley Bercli, and Principal Mrs McDonald, before our Head Teacher of Music and LOTE, Mrs Clewett, performed the Last Post, and the whole school honoured the fallen with a minute silence. Following the Reveille, also played by Mrs Clewett, and the raising of the flag, a group of the school's talented music students sang and performed the National Anthem. Normally our friends from the South Lake Macquarie RSL sub-Branch (Morisset) would be part of our school commemorations on Remembrance Day, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, we're unable to be part of the day's commemorations. #wewillrememberthem #lestweforget2020
