23.01.2022 BIOLOGISTS IN THE MAKING To finish Biological Sciences, some of the Year 7 science students had the opportunity to work like a biologist. Students had to sort through an Owl pellet (which is a regurgitated ball of indigestible material like bones, hair and feathers) to find and identify different bones. This process provides information about the diet of owl’s as well as the species they prey on. Despite the smell the students really enjoyed the experience. Ms Kerimofski, Science Teacher

14.01.2022 2020 NEXT GENERATION SCHOOLS PROGRAM: STUDENT EXPO DAY Last week selected students from the Year 10 Science Extension classes participated in the Student Expo Day organised by the Petroleum Club of WA. Our students spent the day at Edith Cowan University to learn about the different jobs and activities within the oil and gas industry and also engaged with industry professionals. Students engaged in hands-on activities and operated robots commonly used in the field such as d...rones and virtual reality system trackers. The highlight of the day was the competition component of the Student Expo. Participating schools formed teams that consisted of 4 to 6 students, race to different expo stations, answer science-related quizzes and solve oil and gas simulated challenges. The team with the most number of points took out major program prizes. There were 10 participating schools with more than 55 teams and our Morleyan team did our school proud by winning the first prize. The overall team rankings are as follows: 1st Place: Morley Senior High School (team: Cell Membrain) 2nd Place: Willetton Senior High School 3rd Place: Duncraig Senior High School 4th Place: Perth Modern School It was indeed an outstanding achievement by our Morley students which was attained by collaboration, grit and a drive to win against all odds. Team Cell Membrain consisted of Ariana, Ethan, Angad and Chloe. They are the lucky winners of a Helicopter Underwater Escape Training and Subsea Survival Experience. This is an opportunity of a life-time to develop hands-on experience training in submerged helicopter simulators and sea survival techniques that is valued at more than AUD3000. 09.01.2022 YEAR 9 RIVER ROCK The Year 9s told me they have been waiting for years for a social event! We were very happy and lucky to be able to run the River Rock this year and it went off fantastically! Sure there were some behind the scenes, last minute difficulties, but we pulled together and sailed away at exactly the right time. We couldn’t have done it without the support of the teachers who volunteered their time and dance moves, and the support from our parents and carers wh...o got the students there - and collected them - on time. The evening went quickly, with some sightseeing to begin, dancing, eating pizza, dancing, eating donuts and more dancing. The feedback we have had was positive, with many requests to do it again! Thank you to the many people who made this happen to a group of students who really did deserve it. Mr Brownlie, Yr 9 Year Coordinator See more
