24.01.2022 Beautiful sunny afternoon at Shire Hall beach, Mornington.

23.01.2022 Submissions to the Mornington Peninsula Shire’s Budget for 2020/21 have been extended to 21 May. We know all licensees have to pay licence fees but these fees should be determined with transparent and fairly. If you have a beach box or boat shed on Shire managed foreshores share any concerns you have about licence fees. But more importantly voice your concerns to Council https://www.mornpen.vic.gov.au//Have-Your-Say-Proposed-Bud

23.01.2022 President Chris Maine is quoted in today's article in the Age about the future of Mount Martha North and its beach boxes: https://www.theage.com.au//mornington-beach-and-its-beach- Channel 9 News filmed a story today at Mount Martha North which is expected to be on tonight or tomorrow night's News.

22.01.2022 Changes to the draft Boatshed and Bathing Box Policy: The Mornington Peninsula Shire has made a number of changes to the Draft Boatshed and Bathing Box Policy which was recently on display to the community. The draft policy, which applies to licensees on Shire-managed foreshores, was altered so that existing licensees or a related party of the existing licensee are now allowed to retain their licence beyond 30 June 2025, with no requirement to reside or be an owner of propert...y within the Mornington Peninsula Shire. Specifically, grandfathering has been approved via a new clause 6.3 a. Next steps: However, effective from 1 July 2025, a new purchaser will have to satisfy the residency/ratepayer requirement. The amended Policy is now on public exhibition until 21 September and can be viewed and commented on via https://www.mornpen.vic.gov.au//Have-Your-Say-Boatshed-and There are still many clauses which need examination and your committee is working on this. We will be in touch with another update soon. See more

22.01.2022 Dear MPBBA members, please be aware that the Mornington Peninsula Shire has opened for comment their proposed budget for 2020/2021. We are sure that you will be aware of our challenge to the Waste Services Charge and Licence Fee for their managed beaches and may like to make comment to them. Other issues that raise your ire or perhaps raise your praise are also welcome on their website. Please let them know through the attached link. All the best, MPBBA Committee.

22.01.2022 The Mornington Peninsula Shire’s Draft Boatshed and Bathing Box Policy is proposing that existing utility connections must be disconnected upon transfer or rebuild. One of our members has written: We purchased our boat shed in Rye with a legal power connection that had been in place for many years and paid more for the shed because of this. The new proposal, if we ever rebuild or sell it, will now require the power to be disconnected - a new owner will not be permitted to h...ave power. I believe if the power is up to safety standards it should be allowed to stay connected when sold!" If you are also impacted by this proposed clause, please share your comments. 22.01.2022 Update for Mount Martha North Beach. Thank you Greg Hunt MP.

21.01.2022 Clarification about activities permitted on Mornington Peninsula Shire managed foreshores.

21.01.2022 If you own a beach box and dont have property in the Mornington Peninsula Shire, the Shires Policy is proposing you will have to sell or transfer the box to someone who does own property in the Shire. Has the box been in your family for generations? Did you buy your box in good faith, knowing that residency/property ownership was not a requirement? What does your beach box mean to you and your family? Please add a comment. But more importantly voice your concerns to Council https://www.mornpen.vic.gov.au//Have-Your-Say-Boatshed-and

20.01.2022 Did you know the Mornington Peninsula Shire’s Draft Boatshed and Bathing Box Policy is proposing that Council may terminate a licence for a beach box for various reasons without compensation and reoffer the Licence for sale? It’s so important for Mornington Peninsula Shire Councillors to hear of your objections, by writing to them and via ‘Have your Say’. https://www.mornpen.vic.gov.au//Have-Your-Say-Boatshed-and

20.01.2022 Thank you Mt Martha North Beach Group for these photos of Mount Martha North beach showing the progress made by DELWP PortPhillip.

19.01.2022 The Age article about the Mornington Peninsula Shire's Draft Boatshed and Bathing Box Policy. Mark Davis is President of the Mornington Peninsula Beach Box Association and the Port Phillip Beach Box Association. Just a reminder that submissions to the Shire's Draft Policy close on 19 June. We encourage you to voice your concerns.

19.01.2022 Forcing existing licensees to sell their beach box by 30 June 2025 simply because they don’t own property in the Mornington Peninsula Shire is extremely unfair. Many boxes have been in the same family for generations and for the last 30 years there was no restriction on who could buy a beach box. We strongly urge you if you haven’t already done so, to lodge an objection by 19 June via Have your Say and also write to Councillors.https://www.mornpen.vic.gov.au//Have-Your-Say-Boatshed-and

12.01.2022 The Mornington Peninsula Shire has placed a Draft Boatshed and Bathing Box Policy on public exhibition from 8 May until 19 June. The Policy doesnt apply to Dromana, Capel Sound, Tyrone, Blairgowrie or Point King foreshores. It proposes all existing licensees, not just new licensees, must either reside in the Mornington Peninsula Shire or own property within the Shire and this must be complied with by 30 June 2025. Does this impact you or someone you know? Please share your concerns in a comment. But more importantly voice your concerns to Council now: https://www.mornpen.vic.gov.au//Have-Your-Say-Boatshed-and

12.01.2022 Dromana foreshore and beautiful weather today.

12.01.2022 Many members have contacted us regarding their distress at the Shire’s proposal that they will need to sell their beach box by 30 June 2025 because they aren’t residents/ratepayers in the Mornington Peninsula Shire (The annual Licence Fees and Rates they pay on their beach box don’t count). One of our members has written: ‘The Council has been well aware for nearly 3 decades that we did not live in the area and this was no barrier to us purchasing it (the beach box) we were... just average people on a single wage at that time and had no prospect of being able to afford an overseas holiday or many holidays at all really and thought that this was something we could have to enjoy with our then young childrenit may just be a bathing box but it is our little piece of paradise Please see the human side to this issue and do not take away from us one of the few things we have and love.’ If you are also impacted by the Shire’s Draft Policy regarding ‘eligible licensee’ please add a comment and voice your concerns to Councillors and via ‘Have your Say' https://www.mornpen.vic.gov.au//Have-Your-Say-Boatshed-and See more

11.01.2022 Perfect afternoon at Mills Beach, Mornington!

09.01.2022 Your urgent comments are needed on the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council’s second draft of the Boatshed and Bathing Box Policy. Our members did a wonderful job commenting on the first draft and whilst it seems onerous, we do need members to provide their feedback on the second draft. The Shire has made some positive changes but there are still many issues which we are concerned about. Your committee will be lodging a submission but we need the Shire to see that the community... - our members - still have concerns. Your say will have an impact. We need numbers! Submissions close on September 21 - just before the elections caretaker period starts. Please contact us for more information at [email protected] if you need assistance.

Greg Hunt Liberal MP, Julia Banks independent candidate and Josh Sinclair Labor candidate will all be in attendance. 06.01.2022 The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning are undertaking sand re-nourishment at Mount Martha North beach scheduled to commence on 23 November, with sand being relocated from Mount Martha South beach to Mount Martha North beach. Advocacy continues for the $1.5 million provided by the Federal Government to be used for an engineering solution such as a short groyne to replace the eroded rock feature at the northern end of the beach and not sand re-nourishment alone. Thank you to the over 1,350 people who signed the petition supporting this.

06.01.2022 Reduction in licence fees on Shire-managed foreshores for 2020/21: A majority of Councillors at the Council meeting of 23 June 2020 agreed to reduce the annual licence fee for beach boxes greater than 5 square metres to $900 for 2020/21, the fee for those boxes was either $990 or $1,200. For boxes of less than 5 square metres, the fee remains unchanged at $700. The motion passed and the revised budget will be referred to the Council meeting on 14 July to be adopted. The MPBBA was very active in seeking a reduction. Thank you to Cr Celi for proposing this motion and thank you to all licensees who lodged submissions objecting to the level of licence fees.
