23.01.2022 Hey Everyone. Just wanted to inform those that are unaware that May 27th marked the start of National Reconciliation Week (NRW) 2021. National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.... The goal of the reconciliation movement is to create a just, equal country. This will not occur until the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the First Peoples of this land, are given a voice in parliament and are able to contribute to everyday life. To learn a bit more about the significance of this week, go to: https://nrw.reconciliation.org.au/about-nrw/ also, look into the 20 actions for personal reconciliation at: https://nrw.reconciliation.org.au/actions-for-reconciliati/ This week move from being a supporter of the Indigenous community to being an active ally.
22.01.2022 I am proud to live in a country that has the oldest living culture in the world! This should be celebrated so much more. It would be an honour to be elected an...d work with the Bunurong Land Council, who provide cultural heritage and environmental land management advice and is the approval body for Cultural Heritage Management Plans. I acknowledge and pay respect to the elders, families and ancestors of the Bunurong/BoonWurrung people, who have been the custodians of this land for many thousands of years. I acknowledge that this land is the place of age-old ceremonies, celebrations, initiation and renewal; and that the Bunurong/BoonWurrung peoples’ living culture continues to have a unique role in the life of this region. #morningtonpeninsula #councilelections2020
20.01.2022 Greens Senator Lidia Thorpe on #NAIDOCWeek2020: "All Australians should celebrate and be proud of the culture, survival and achievements of the oldest living culture on Earth, and NAIDOC Week is our opportunity to do that."
18.01.2022 This beautiful giant manna gum was a sapling on Arthurs Seat long before Captain Cook arrived in Australia. It’s grown over an estimated three centuries to have a 5.2m girth and 1.65m diameter. All this time it’s played its part in our #environment, providing habitat for our wild creatures, making oxygen for us to breathe and more. This tree is on a site designated as Stage One for a massive new quarry proposed by The Ross Trust. What makes this situation truly bizarre is th...at the Ross Trust is a charitable trust set up to give to environmental and social causes. Please save this tree from death row. Visit www.savearthursseat.com to find out how you can help. Together we can #SaveArthursSeat @rwynnemp @RichardWynneMP @DanielAndrewsMP #nonewquarry See more

16.01.2022 Hi All. Today is Mabo Day which marks the end of National Reconciliation week 2021. Named after the first plaintiff, Eddie Mabo. Mabo Day commemorates the anniversary of the historic decision by the Australian high court to overturn the legal concept known as 'terra nullius', meaning 'land belonging to no-one'.... In 1788, the concept of terra nullius was used to assert that the land was unoccupied, ignoring the fact that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples occupied the land, spoke their own languages and had their own laws and customs before the British arrived. You can learn more about Mabo day here: https://www.abc.net.au//what-is-mabo-day-eddie-h/100180516 Read more about Eddie Mabo here: https://aiatsis.gov.au/explore/eddie-koiki-mabo

10.01.2022 BREAKING: Parliament just voted YES to our motion for a #GreenNewDeal for Victoria. This is the first time a Green New Deal has been formally endorsed in Austra...lia. The Victorian Greens motion called on the government to use the upcoming state budget as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to implement a Green New Deal by investing in: A big build of publicly-owned renewable energy and storage projects, with a transition plan for coal workers A big build of public housing Employing more educators, healthcare workers and social support workers Large-scale projects to regenerate bushfire-affected areas and protect threatened species Bike lanes and other active transport projects Projects to revive our main shopping strips Building recycling plants Now that the Parliament has backed our plan for a Green New Deal, the next step is to make sure the government follows through in the upcoming state budget in two weeks' time. So watch this space! We'll keep you updated with how that goes. Today we took a big step forward, towards a better future for all Victorians, and a cleaner and safer environment and climate.
