23.01.2022 During this crisis Melbournians have continued to enjoy fresh produce from many of this regions farms. The Green Wedge, which covers 70% of the Mornington Peninsula and extends around Melbourne's fringe, has never been more important than it is now! 23.01.2022 Our next discussion group will be held With Richard and Georgie Hawkes at Hawkes Farm, Boneo. A mixed horticultural enterprise with interstate supply contracts and farm gate sales. Winners of a Gold Award for Excellence in Food Tourism in 2019 RACV Victorian Tourism Awards and a Bronze in 2018, Hawkes Farm is certainly setting the gold standard for Agritourism. This success story did not happen overnight though, its an intergenerational farming story of hard work, hardship,... success and failure and a modern-day story of mining gold in dirt. Richard, will take us through the vagaries of farming his patch, explaining how farming in Canada and the US opened his eyes to hidden opportunities, the challenges of farming on sandy soils, green manure crops, how they make their own compost to improve the soils moisture and nutrient holding capacity. Establishing collaborative partnerships to drive new business growth and vertical integration has helped build margins. Join us for what is sure to be an open, informative and entertaining session. All Welcome! See more

20.01.2022 REMINDER: tickets still available for the @mpfoodforum this Friday! Don't miss hearing from this legend! @edigrocer will be joining the session - A Local Perspective. Edithvale Community Greengrocer (EDIGROCER) is a community led fair food enterprise, making up mixed seasonal boxes for 200 local families (all within 5km of Edithvale) each week, sourcing fruit and veggies directly (no wholesalers) from growers all over the Mornington Peninsula and Koo Wee Rup. ... Since starting in 2016, Edigrocer has paid over $800,000 directly into our local food bowl, supporting & working with over 50 local, small scale & organic growers. All with the aim of connecting local families to local farmers, for a viable & sustainable suburban food future. In addition to working for Edithvale families, Edigrocer has mentored and assisted 8 other box programs all over Melbourne, believing every suburb deserves a local green-er grocer again. Building a better food system from the ground up. Tickets available from link in our bio! Look forward to seeing you there

20.01.2022 Were committed to supporting our local Farm Gates and working together to help them comply with State Government legislation. Were also very conscious ...of challenging conditions for Farm Gate operators during Coronavirus. Were continuing to work to ensure our local operators will not face fines or court action as a result of this illegal activity, however we do have a legal responsibility in this matter and must continue to seek compliance with the planning scheme. 03.01.2022 Andi White will be joining us at the @mpfoodforum from across the border :) Andi will be sharing how Cultivate Farms helped her and her gorgeous family secure their ideal property to continue their farming journey! Here’s a little intro to Andi I am a farmer/bookkeeper from Tocumwal NSW, where I live with my husband and our 4 boys. I have a science degree and certificate 4 bookkeeping and accounting. I also have my own bookkeeping practice in Finley NSW and specialize in h...elping farm businesses. Hayden is the manager of a large-scale mixed broadacre cropping and livestock farm, and we currently own a small property nearby. We desperately wanted to buy a farm large enough to support ourselves so we joined the Cultivate Farms program in November. We were successful in getting an investor to back us, and have signed a contract to purchase a 640 acre neighbouring farm. Through using the tools that Cultivate Farms gave us, we were able to secure our ideal property and are now ready to embark on the next part of our farming journey.
