22.01.2022 As part of National Volunteers Week, we'd like to extend a HUGE thank you to all our TAC L2P Mentor Volunteers. The TAC L2P Program assists disadvantaged Victorian learner drivers aged 16 to 21 with no access to a supervising driver or vehicle to gain the 120 hours driving experience required to apply for a probationary licence. This program would not be possible without our amazing team of mentors on the Mornington Peninsula!... THANK YOU!!

13.01.2022 1000+ Hours for Howard The day Howard turned eighteen he took the day off school especially to go for his driver license. It was that important, I wanted it so desperately! It was a source of freedom and independence. That feeling has never left Howard and now he is doing everything he can to help other young drivers find that same freedom.... Seven years ago upon his retirement, Howard became a mentor with the Frankston L2P Program. When he moved to Mornington he found he had time to spare so joined the Mornington Peninsula Program as well. In that time Howard has devoted an incredible 685 hours to the Frankston program and 409 hours to the Mornington Peninsula Program and he has no intention of giving up any time soon! As a mentor you get to watch your learners grow up. You see them getting their confidence, he said recently. I try to cover all driving conditions; driving to the city to do the hook turns and going through the tunnels, so that when the time comes for them to drive by themselves it will not be a new experience. When he was asked what the highlight of the L2P Program was for him Howard replied, I’ve had some great learners. One was a brickie so on our drives he would take me to all his worksites. We’d travel from Pakenham to Portsea he worked everywhere! Another learner Howard helped went on to gain employment once he passed his driving test. That’s what it’s about for me. I know how important driving was for me and I want to help others get their license. Howard is still in touch with many of his learners including the first learner he ever mentored. It’s good to keep in contact. So far Howard has helped nine learners pass their tests and assisted many others as a fill-in mentor. That’ll be my next goal making number 10! All those involved in the Frankston and Mornington Peninsula TAC L2P Programs congratulate Howard and sincerely thank him for his ongoing commitment to our local youth.

01.01.2022 National Sorry Day Today is a day to reflect on our Australian stolen generations. We acknowledge the intergenerational trauma and the impact that the Stolen Generations continues to have. It took several Australian government administrations coming and going before an apology was officially offered to the Indigenous Australians, but it finally was made official, and actions are still being undertaken to this day to repair the damage caused by tearing native families apart.... #sorryday #NationalSorryDay
