We’ve been notified of the latest Centrelink scam that is using Australian phone numbers to call claiming to be from the Department of Human Services, the scammers will leave a message if you don’t answer with a return phone number, the number in this instance was 02 8488 1031. Upon calling back you will hear a recording that has been duplicated from th...e Department of Human Services talking about payment rates and benefits, the scammers will tell you that Centrelink have under paid you and there is an amount owing to you. Please be aware that Centrelink will not ask you over the phone for details of your bank accounts or details of the payments you are receiving, if Centrelink have over paid or under paid you any amount of money they will write to you. If Centrelink owe you any amount of money they will pay this automatically to your bank account that regular amounts are deposit into and they won’t contact you before this occurs.
