How many times did he have to repeat a level? Game design allows us to map life in a way that represents its inherent chaotic nature; Life's... journey is non-linear. Yet most CX experts try to convince us it is. Origin Energy recently announced a reward scheme to encourage customers to turn off appliances during peak load periods. The approach is a classic example of a well meaning plan boycotted by "journey maps" and converted into a simple, linear, customer journey. This is a mistake. It will run out of steam. We are all living in a game. A game devised and controlled by a super hyper personalised nudge engine in the sky run by AI. OK - Not yet. But conspiracy theories abound as to its actual existence and you kinda get the idea. Even if the fantasy was fantasy (The AI bit) the rest of it is pretty much true - (insert your favourite link to lots of philosophy - the curators of truth) ; Life's a game. Regardless of where you are, you get lots of choices everyday, choices that are unique to you and it's now up to you to make your move. This is how life works. Success = HCD + Game Design The first step in Human Centred Design (HCD) is empathy (insert your favourite link to lots of HCD). When you combine these two ideas (Life's a Game + Empathy) , you conclude that life is a maze and that's really difficult for your customers. As you do so, your approach to building empathy is dramtically enhanced through the lens of Game Design. It is a crazy crazy time. Moroku is putting up its hand to work with financial institutions and other essential utilities that wish to work in a digital environment with their customers through the maze of life's challenges. These include very real and critical challenges for everyone, around how we should consume utilities such as money, water, power and dinosaur bones.
