Ashleigh Westcott and Con Brio made it 5 wins from 5... starts in the Open 115cm class in the morning and Conor Reed on Caveton Park Legacy 5th. 24.01.2022 RACING TO RECOMMENCE BUT WITH FACEMASKS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED! Sunday 22 November, 2020 Thoroughbred Racing to resume in South Australia Wednesday 25 November, 2020... Following on from Friday’s State Government announcement of the lifting of the Stay at Home lockdown from midnight Saturday night (21 November) and the further easing of restrictions, Thoroughbred Racing SA (TRSA) wish to advise that race meetings will recommence from Wednesday 25 November as below; Wednesday 25 November 2020 Morphettville Parks (Fields transferred from Saturday 21 November 2020 with scratchings reinstated) Thursday 26 November 2020 Balaklava (program transferred from Wednesday 25 November 2020 with nominations and acceptance times put back 1 business day) Monday 30 November 2020 Trials at Morphettville Parks (transferred from Thursday 26 November 2020) Race programming will then continue as per the published schedule from Friday 27 November at Port Lincoln. Race courses will remain closed to members and the general public and only able to be accessed by essential persons. TRSA will continue to monitor the Directions from the State Co-ordinator and work closely with the Racing Clubs with the aim of returning to having patrons on course as soon as possible providing it is viable for Clubs to do so, TRSA strongly advise that all essential persons at race meetings should wear a face mask at all times to ensure all measures are taken to reduce risk of contracting COVID19. 17.01.2022 Vale Di Schaeffer The Australian Equestrian community is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Di Schaeffer. Di suffered a heart attack on Christmas night ...and was hospitalised. Despite Di’s resilience and strength, the challenges of the damage to her heart were too difficult to overcome and on Sunday 3 January 2021, Di passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Di, who was 77 years old, leaves a legacy to Equestrian and in particular Eventing. Mother of Olympian, Wendy Schaeffer, Chair of the ESA Eventing Committee and an SA Eventing Selector. Di was on the 1986 Australian Team for the Gawler World Championships and also competed at a high level for many years. She co-owned many horses, including Sunburst, who was Wendy’s mount at the Atlanta Olympics and a member of the Gold Medal winning team. Strong and resilient, Di was a woman who would rise up when others found it challenging. Still actively involved with horses, Di attended the recent event at Wallaby Hill in December. Travelling all the way over from SA with Wendy, Di drove most of the way to allow Wendy to sleep and rest before the event. Wendy rode Sun Quest (co-owned by Di) who placed 11th in his second only 3* event. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Schaeffer and Equestrian family. She will be dearly missed. 17.01.2022 *****STOP PRESS***** Following the Eventing Victoria meeting last night and discussions with our Course Designer Ewan, we are all agreed that with the cancellat...ion of The Furphy Media 3 Day Event, we will aim to run CCI 2*, 3* & 4*Long classes at our Spring Horse Trials. We are conscious of the fact that many riders were needing their Melbourne result as a qualifier for events in the latter part of 2021hopefully this helps some of those riders. It will be a busy few days with classes also running from EvA80 through to CCI4*S. The dates will be September 10th -12th. See more

13.01.2022 A big congratulations to VRC Ambassador Gai Waterhouse Racing who was announced as a recipient of the Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the Australia Da...y honours list today, in recognition for her distinguished service to horse racing. It wasn't an easy road for Gai who fought for years just to get her trainers licence, but she has gone on to dominate the industry winning nearly every major Australian race including the 2013 Melbourne Cup with Fiorente, and has become an incomparable and unstoppable ambassador for the sport. Well done Gai we can't wait to see you back at Flemington Racecourse soon, hopefully for another tilt at the Lexus Melbourne Cup!

02.01.2022 In February 2020 Storm Voyager presented to the Morphettville Equine Clinic for severe colic. She underwent colic surgery for a strangulating obstruction of the small intestine. There was over 12 feet of black necrotic jejunum (small intestine) which then require an extensive resection anastomosis. This means the 12 feet of small intestine was cut out and the two ends then sutured back together. This is an extremely difficult operation which was performed by Dr Todd Booth. T...he horse was then put into intensive care for 7 days with around the clock monitoring by our medicine Veterinarians and nurses. The mare was given a 50 % chance of survival. Throughout her time in ICU she had several complication of significant abdominal pain and colitis (diarrhoea). She was treated aggressively with medical treatment and overcame these complications. Saturday the 31st October, 2020 Storm Voyager won her first race following colic surgery. This is the third successsful small intestine resection surgery we have performed at MEC with good outcome in the last 12 months. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the amazing team at MEC. We work around the clock on these horses to achieve these amazing outcomes.
