25.01.2022 Valencias Central Market is a leading example of Spanish Art Nouveau and mecca for those in search of sumptuous, fresh produce. For Masquespacios creative director, Ana Hernandez, this made it the perfect inspiration for her stunning concept for Piur restaurant. Ornaments from the markets faade adorn the restaurant, creating emblematic flourishes that pay homage to the establishments local founders. The use of earthy tones, wood and terracotta tiles reinforce a connecti...on to the earth. Juxtaposed with splashes of red, they represent the tomatoes used for centuries to prepare mouth-watering pizzas. We particularly like the ingenious use of lighting which punctuates the 500m2 space, creating many intimate spaces where diners can savour the fine cuisine and fine design that Piur serves up. However, Crosby Studios bold styling for a new generation of Moscow restaurant is a source of both surprise and sheer delight. 22.01.2022 Sydney-based architectural and interior design firm, Alexander & Co. were commissioned to renovate the dilapidated Burleigh Pavilion of the iconic Burleigh Beach on the Gold Coast, Queensland. The challenge lay in creating a space that was at once durable, relaxed and charming, to reinstate the facility as a local landmark. The result is a space that truly knows its purpose. Overall the pavilion has a fresh, retro feel, catering both to beachgoers and surfers (with outdoor... showers and board racks), as well as those coming to appreciate the spectacular location and a good selection of bar and dining options. Its functional corbelled brickwork, concrete flooring and removable windows (in case of storms) are offset by relaxed and inviting interiors. There is no judgement here patrons can enjoy a post-surf burger and milkshake at The Diner, beer and snacks at The Beach Bar or more refined options at the full-service restaurant, The Tropic. The heart of the space is the open plan kitchen, located centrally with plenty of 70s nostalgia and architectural interest in the curved masonry walls and decorative blockwork. Natural materials and textures such as tan leather, stone and timber are used across the board as an extension of the natural beachside surroundings. In places rattan ceiling panels soften the harder, more resilient flooring. The aesthetic is kept soft, clean and current with whitewash and generous touches of pastel pink and seafoam green. Most of all, the design and renovation process has injected personality and a sense of laid-back fun into the Burleigh Pavilion. One can immediately imagine soaking up the last rays of sun here, with the strings of simple, exposed bulbs outside reflecting off the speckled terrazzo tabletops. 21.01.2022 Aesop recently celebrated the progression of its brand over the past 3 decades with the opening of its incredible new store in Sydneys central Pitt Street Mall. The space was designed in collaboration with international architects @snohetta. We were amazed to discover the project was inspired by the 1969 Wrapped Coast artwork, where approximately 2.4kms of cliffs and coastline was covered in erosion-control fabric. The resulting concept is fabulously bold - the store is... a tranquil granite cocoon, linking the rugged New South Wales coast to the buildings of Sydneys CBD. The floors, walls and ceilings are entirely wrapped in varying granite finishes, with flashes of greenery and Aesops trademark little brown bottles imbuing a sense of natural calm. Soft lighting and multiple stainless steel service counters are, according to the designers, intended to encourage clients to retreat and focus on themselves for a few minutes. The store will ultimately be more than just a retail outlet, with a granite amphitheatre in the rear designed for digital art exhibitions. Its a fabulous way to extend the use of this concept space. 20.01.2022 Our latest inspo is the Menorca Experimental Hotel, a Spanish island retreat set on 30 hectares of tranquil agricultural land with views of the gorgeous Mediterranean sea. There are just 34 rooms and a small number of private villas available in this revamped 19th century estate. The grand exterior of the double-story, whitewashed compound is softened and modernised internally. The airy spaces are maintained with exposed beams, polished concrete and terracotta flooring, off...set with a playful colour scheme of varying blues, golden yellow and rust pink, inspired by the Menorcan landscape. We love the trademark use of semi-circles in everything from colour-blocked bed heads to vases and bedside lamps. Local tradesmen have maintained the Menorcan influence with built in concrete furniture, recessed alcoves and hand-glazed tiles, which are featured extensively in the flooring and pretty accent walls. 19.01.2022 MorrisCo Design are delighted to have created the interior for the newest Killiney Koptiam restaurant in Westfield Sydney. Killiney Koptiam opened the first restaurant, of what is now 85, back in 1919 on Killiney Road in Singapore. Famous for serving delicious Singapore street food, it was important that we captured the essence of the brands history. Part of our design brief was to retain the long curved wall of the existing shopfront. A beautiful brushed render finish was a...pplied creating the perfect canvas for Leia Sidery (from The Art of Wall) to install hand painted orchid murals, paying homage to the national flower of Singapore. New window openings with colonial shutters allow passers-by a glimpse inside at what is a calm and welcoming interior. The interior materials palette includes re-finished oak floors, compressed cement sheeting, rattan, and warm timber joinery complemented by touches of greenery throughout the space. Cosy booth seating areas are highlighted with peach pendant lighting courtesy of House of Orange. The three dimensional bamboo ceiling fans out from the bar area adding to the natural warmth and ambiance of the interior. Opened in June 2019, Sormeh Rienne’s bold re-imagining of the iconic Armed Services YMCA building unites heritage and nostalgia with unflinching touches of modernism. 19.01.2022 Theres a new kid on the block in trendy Villeray, Montreal; Italian restaurant, @vestamtl. Named after the Roman goddess of home and family it makes sense that Montreal based @menarddworkind (MRDK) were assigned the task of bringing the venue to life. True to Vestas name the space is warm, cosy, welcoming and a place to be enjoyed. MRDK channeled 1970s American-Italian restaurants and have brought Vesta into the present day by juxtaposing industrial, contemporary and vintag...e. The result is an understated beauty that makes any diner feel right at home. White painted pine paneling, sophisticated emerald green painted walls and red leather couches imbue a sense of familial warmth that Italians are renown for. Bright yellow pizza boxes stacked high along with the tinned tomatoes on display are reminiscent of a pop art installation and inject a sense of fun to this incredibly comfortable space. Centre stage is the curved bar made from clad steel base, painted beige, with an oak counter top. Wines are presented on a custom-made steel rolled rack. Embedding the cosy vibe is the slim line pendant in black that is perfectly placed above the bar. Lindsay, a semi-retired vet has always tinkered and built things in his shed, whilst Andrea is an Interior Architect and owner of Studio Moore. Together they have turned a disused dairy farm into a beautifully cosy and curated country boutique getaway. Located in Meeniyan, South Gippsland, Victoria the 2.5 acre property features three distinct handcrafted buildings: The Cabin, The Dairy and The Barn. Each buil...ding pays homage to the land it is on and has been lovingly repurposed. The Barn, is the only building on the property that is a new build, yet with their ingenuity they have crafted a building that brings together modernity and the rawness of country life. The elevated pitched roof with a floor-to-ceiling glass window boasts a northern aspect that brings in warmth whilst imploring guests to gaze at the expansive landscapes of the Tarwin Valley from the comforts of within. No matter the elements outside, the interiors allow for a completely relaxing stay and accessibility has been front of mind throughout the design and build process. Inside has been meticulously thought out and executed with every element having purpose. The handmade components entrench the love of the project and make this a place with soul. Perfectly described as being raw and refined the brushed concrete floors, ply clad walls, cedar, brass and granite are composed and layered so that nothing is out of place. 18.01.2022 Recently weve developed a crush on the collaborations between designer @dorotheemeilichzon and the Experimental hotel group, with this inspo post showcasing @ilpalazzoexperimentall in Venice, Italy. This boutique hotel is all our Venetian dreams come true - dramatic, quirky and an intended reflection of its immediate surroundings. Just like the @menorcaexperimental, Il Palazzo Experimental is littered with gorgeous arches and semi-circles. But where the former is finished ...with terracotta and raw hand-woven materials, Il Palazzo Experimental is layered with sumptuous upholstery, rich marble and antique mirror. The colour scheme takes inspiration from the warm, deep pinks and reds of the surrounding neighbourhood, and the varying green and blue hues of the ever-present laguna. The restaurant takes a fresh, light approach to the design theme with a base of white and pale grey marble, topped with cherry red velvet and striped banquette seating and teal-framed mirrors. The bar, by Milan designer @cristinacelestino, is a more intimate affair, encased in walls painted a deep salmon pink and plush teal, grey and gold carpet. The glittered mirrors and gold ring overhead lighting add a real sense of opulence to this unique, inviting space. The hotel, as a whole, is a wonderful tribute to its origins as a Renaissance palace, and the fabulous Gothic and Byzantine features of Venetian architecture and design. 15.01.2022 Members only club, the Straits Clan is a place where curious minds, diverse cultures and those that want to be inspired can meet. Housed in a heritage listed building in Singapores China Town, the club appointed @takenouchiwebb to design the interiors of the four-storey space. Previously a hotel, Takenouchi Webb gutted all the internal spaces to deliver the best experience for club members. Each space with their own unique uses are eclectic in their look and feel, yet all fe...el like they belong together. Takenouchi Webb took reference from the diverse cultures of Singapore and South East Asia, the result is a tropical-style club featuring rattan, breeze blocks, encaustic tiles, brass, emerald greens, and hints of red alongside mahogany. 10.01.2022 When you step into Oppen there is no denying the Scandinavian heritage of the cafe. Simplicity is the order of the day and the warmth of the material palette sets the tone for the dining experience. Cinnamon scrolls and pastries tempt you from within the glass display perched atop the terracotta service counter. Dusty pink and white painted tongue and groove timber clads the length of one wall. Whilst perforated cladding, in the same dusty pink, wraps from the ceiling to the ...opposite wall. There is the option of banquette seating, communal seating or more intimate tables. A sense of balance is imbued in the space with the use of warm oak, brass light fittings, greenery and then the coolness of terrazzo and brushed concrete flooring. Designed by BrandWorks, Oppen is a beautifully composed and modern take on Scandinavian interiors. 08.01.2022 Situated in the lush greenery of the Royal Botanic Gardens in the centre of Sydney, is the newly transformed Botanic House designed by @fivefootonedesign and run by the Trippas White Group Previously known as the Botanic Gardens Restaurant, this revamped treasure is certainly making a name for itself. The building has been divided into an upstairs restaurant and a downstairs more casual eatery, named Farm Cove Eatery, however both spaces are tied by their open plan design and... gorgeous choice of textures. Blonde timbers throughout the restaurant provide a warmth to the airy space, which is also complemented by the earthy tones found in the leather lounges and the brass table trims. The stone used in the bar area creates a glamour reminiscent of the Deco style. The lush garden surrounds can be seen from any aspect in the restaurant, thanks to the high glass windows, and the greenery continues inside with the clever use of indoor plants, both hanging from on high or in large pots greeting you as you walk in the door. The feature artwork by @sketches_and_skengs is an intricate single-line drawing of what appears to be several faces keeping an eye on the goings-on of the restaurant. The artwork is repeated on the cover of the menu reinforcing the idea that the food by renowned Ambassador Chef Luke Nguyen is simple, yet with intricate flavours. The many native plants surrounding the building have influenced the menu, with lemon myrtle, native pepper-berries and warrigal greens making appearances. This oasis of calm and elegance located amongst the foliage of the Botanic Gardens, paired with a Luke Nguyen inspired menu is not to be missed. 07.01.2022 Within Kingston, the creative capital of the Hudson Valley, a new boutique hotel that spans across four distinctly individual buildings promises guests reprieve from the rigours of city life. When guests step inside they are met with design elements from a prior time, think centuries old tile work and original tin ceilings, that intersect and meld with comforts of modern day. Charged with restoring and transforming the four heritage buildings, with a total of 42-guest rooms,... to become Hotel Kinsley was Studio Robert McKinley of New York. Robert McKinleys designs have been described as "transporting the visitor to another place and time..." this is certainly apt for Hotel Kinsley where guests can leave all their stresses of the day at the door. What was once the New York State Bank is now the heart of the hotel with 10-guest rooms, a treatment room and sauna plus the Kinsley Restaurant as well as a bar and lounge. 301 Wall Street, as the main building is known, lives up to the cultural and artistic vibe of the area. Vintage meets custom made furniture and new art and photography are beautifully balanced and respectful to the sites. Layering and textural elements are the order of the day with a composition of lush velvet, leather or woollen fabrics covering the seating throughout. Whilst warm tones of sage can be found in several of the guest rooms - adding to the comforting feel of the space. The Kinsley Restaurant is convivial with terracotta floors, a central and large fireplace and banquette seating. The space is bright and airy with large picture windows and raffia inserts set high on the walls. The colour palette of blush pink and off white are soft and uplifting - sure to help diners enjoy the fresh, seasonal and local produce on offer. 06.01.2022 Evocative of a tropical escape Biasol designed the interiors for new caf and restaurant, Sisterhood Hobart Located in Sandy Bay, Hobart, Tasmania you can step out of the cool and into the warmth of the equally bright, textural and cosy space. In reference to the lush rainforests of Tulum is the colour palette of green that can be found in the irregular shaped sage subway tiles that clad the drinks bar that is topped with Verde St. Denis marble. Hanging vines add another laye...r of interest and warmth and are placed throughout the venue. Enhancing the tropical vibe is the use of blonde timber that is elegantly pared with rattan, and can be found on the Bentwood chairs, as a divider atop the banquette seating, pendant lighting and as part of the timber overhead framework in the bar area. Not to be missed is the La Palma wallpaper by Catherine Martin Designs that adds another touch of green, but also the oranges that are synonymous with the lichen found on the rocky coast of Tasmania. With a seasonal menu that features local produce, the interiors are fresh and perfectly matched. Sisterhood by @Biasol is a venue that anyone who is in the vicinity of Sandy Bay must visit. After discovering this beauty, we found out that Sisterhood have experienced flooding and are closed until the end of the year. BUT they are running pop up venues. Thanks to Spanish architects, Proyecto Singular SLP, burger restaurants are now going through an equally impressive transformation. Based on its brand pillars of Brass, Wood and Smoke, New York Burgers new premises in Moraleja Green on the outskirts of Spains Madrid encapsulate the essence of craftsmanship. In the centre of the premises and visible from the e...ntrance, the grill and fire are the inspiration for the concept. They are echoed throughout by a palette which features terracotta tiles, natural stone and fibre. Collectively, they imbue the restaurant with a chromatic and textural warmth. The lighting also adds to the sense of sophistication, with its delicate balance of bright neons and refined glows. 05.01.2022 The Ice Scream nitrogen ice cream shop in the Bronx is a fun-filled example of how to use colour and lighting in a playful, trendy and inoffensive way. Architects @asthetiquegroup have created a visual feast, blending retro kitsch and modern themes that are aimed squarely at its millennial, instagramming market. The storefront attraction is a series of floating fluorescent lights reminiscent of 80s Memphis design, but the base palette is grounded in muted pinks, light timber...s and off-white. Recessed, pink-tiled arches and tropical plants line the walls, leading customers toward the main stage. This is the counter front, decorated in a riot of pastel geometry and framed by another large, recessed arch along the back wall in pale aqua blue where the nitrogen action takes place. Lighting features again in the multi-coloured LEDs lining the arches and ceilings, slowly changing colour to create the sense of a show in progress. The side arches also house several catchy back-lit slogans, such as Better than therapy and I licked it so its mine. 05.01.2022 Pentolina is a self-described haven for fresh pasta and authentic Italian hospitality, located in Little Collins street in Melbournes eclectic CBD. A product of the Biasol Design Studio, the concept is of a traditional Roman pasta bar that is in keeping with Melbournes artsy culinary culture. Patrons are immediately transported to the laneways of Rome in the unfinished concrete walls, grey terrazzo floors and subtle rose-coloured marble of the full-length bar. The res...taurant is dominated by this multipurpose feature, complete with hanging vines strung across the overhead metal shelving. The designers have injected a sense of intimacy with the use of rich, oxblood leather barstools and dark timbers. The dark red shade is mirrored overhead in the colour of the ceilings, sections of wall and pipework. Bulkheads and simple, domed bronze light fittings have been used to add another touch of warmth. Opened in June 2019, Sormeh Riennes bold re-imagining of the iconic Armed Services YMCA building unites heritage and nostalgia with unflinching touches of modernism. Morris Co Design were engaged to create a display suite for the first release of The Archibald, a $400M development that has been hailed as Gosfords most significant transformation.... Our initial brief was to create a space that would capture the overall feeling of The Archibald project which included a mix of luxury apartments, restaurants, cafes, retail, and health and wellness offerings. We needed to capture the essence of the entire building, not just individual apartments, wanting our clients to feel welcome and relaxed whilst in this space. The display suite also needed to operate as a sales centre and allow our agents to work comfortably and efficiently with their clients to educate them on this incredible project. Alex created an incredible space with the clever use of sophisticated and warm materials bringing style, class and elegance. Not only did her team deliver a design beyond our expectations, they did so within a very tight timeframe and were always quick to respond to our questions along the way. 01.01.2022 Manly Beach on Sydneys Northern Beaches is a mecca for sun and cafe lovers and a relatively new comer to the scene is Rollers. Nestled in a back alley, Rollers is a pastry bakehouse putting a new and incredibly delicious spin on pastry. With a menu that changes daily it will be hard to tire of the flavour combinations. Matching their unique offering is the oh so cool interiors by interior designer Brad Barrow and branding by Melbourne-based design studio, A Friend of Mine De...sign Studio. The exterior pops! With the light pink walls sitting alongside a brushed concrete wall adorned with custom-made maroon wrought iron signage that casts a shadow that naturally changes throughout the day. Within the interiors are equally delightful; exposed brick walls are juxtaposed by white tiles demarcating the service area. If you can look beyond the mouth-watering display of pastries the pastry chef can be seen at work through the glass cubed windows of the kitchen. Adding warmth to the space is the blonde timber joinery and timber chairs within the courtyard by Dowel Jones. Concrete breeze blocks add yet another textural element to the space and amping up what can only be described as a palm springs vibe are the potted cacti dotted along the exterior.
