25.01.2022 When I say I am a Speech Pathologist people often say, 'so you work with people who stutter' and the truth is I do. However the reality is that Speech Pathologists do not just work with those that stutter, have language difficulties or issues with their speech or voice. Speech Pathologists often spend a large portion of their time helping people to swallow. You wouldn't be alone if you thought... 'What's the big deal?' ... 'It can't be that hard to swallow' 'I've never even thought that people could have difficulties swallowing' Many people in the community are not aware that individuals can have a swallowing impairment, medically known as DYSPHAGIA. For this reason, I share this video to give insight in to how dysphagia can impact a persons life. *Please be aware that this video contains stories of a range of individuals with swallowing difficulties. Each individuals experience is unique and should not be compared to another's. https://youtu.be/MrbEUDO6S5U

06.01.2022 Thank you to the Alpine Allied Health Hub for the opportunity to work as a private Speech Pathologist in Myrtleford. A fantastic facility for our town. Feel free to drop by on Wednesday 7th February to support the official opening!

06.01.2022 What is Speech Pathology? Speech Pathologists work in a range of different settings (including schools, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities and in the community). It is their role to assess, diagnose and provide therapy to people who may have difficulties with communication or swallowing. As you may know, communication is an incredibly complex task. It requires both understanding and the ability to express oneself. If this is difficult for people, it can impact a persons l...ife drastically with potential loss of independence, ability to maintain relationships, ability to work or socialise, and/or ability to complete activities of daily living (eg. shopping). Swallowing impairments are not as well known. Many people develop swallowing difficulties as a result of a range of medical diagnosis with the potential to lead to other health concerns (ie. aspiration pneumonia, respiratory distress, discomfort) if not managed appropriately. The attached video is a little insight in to the world of Speech Pathology. If you find yourself thinking of an adult who has the described difficulties, perhaps they require a referral to Speech Pathology. *Please be mindful that Morrison SALT provides a service to adult clients.
