20.01.2022 The Reserve Bank have today dropped the Cash Rate by 0.25% to 1.00% which is a record low. All lenders will now review their rates and will then decide how much of this reduction they will pass on to their borrowers and how much they will drop their deposit rates too. As we saw after the Cash Rate reduction in June, the lenders will take up to 3-4 days to advise what they will be doing and then there is likely to be a delay of up to 2 to 3 weeks before we see the reductions p...ut into effect. Will the Full Cash Rate Reduction be passed on? In my view this is unlikely to occur across the board, despite the clear political pressure to do so. The reason is quite simple. Lenders do not fund their loan books through the Reserve Bank, with the majority of Australian lenders raising between 40 to 60% of the funds they lend to us offshore - i.e. USA, UK & European financial markets as an example. Nevertheless, further rate reductions will flow through over the next few weeks making it easier for us all to pay down our loans more quickly. Colin
