19.01.2022 Attention Rabbit owners. Unfortunately, over the past few days, we have seen two cases of the fatal rabbit virus Myxomatosis in our clinic. Myxomatosis is spread between rabbits by close contact, and biting insects such as mosquitoes and fleas. The early signs of the virus include swelling of the eyelids, eye discharge, puffy ears and swollen genitals. Unfortunately there is no treatment for myxomatosis and most rabbits die within 10 to 14 days of infection. ... The best way to prevent your rabbits contracting myxomatosis, is to keep them in hutches covered with insect proof netting, or keeping them indoors away from mosquitoes. Sadly the vaccine is not available/registered for the use in Australia. If you have any other questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us on 9383 2285.

16.01.2022 Our response to Covid-19 1. We feel it is important that we continue to offer your pets the best of care. 2. We encourage payments to be other than cash. Contact less card payment is a more hygienic alternative. 3. We often do need to conduct a physical examination because animals cant always communicate their symptoms. 4. Please let us know if you would prefer not to be in the consultation with your pet, we are happy for you to hand your pet to the nurse or vet.... 5. Please let us know if you have been unwell, travelled overseas recently or have had any known contact with a carrier of the Covid virus, preferably over the phone. We will then ask you to pass your pet to the vet or nurse. We are happy to collect your pet from the car if you let us know. 6. We encourage social distancing and hygiene. We will provide hand sanitiser when available. Hand cleaning is available. John Rees and the staff of Mosman Park Veterinary Hospital See more

07.01.2022 Did you know lilies are toxic to cats? Although they are a popular flower in many homes, cat owners and florists are often unaware of the impact they can have on cats. If a cat encounter lilies and either ingest them or even rubs along the flower, it can cause serious kidney failure. We recently had an owner unaware of this after her cat ate some of the stem and called to check if it would be a problem. Luckily, they brought the cat in quickly and we were able to treat him and prevent any of the more damaging effects on the kidneys. Signs of lily toxicity are vomiting, depression and loss of appetite. If you are concerned that your cat has eaten any part of the lily, please contact us on 9383 2285 as soon as possible as early treatment can prevent potentially life-threatening kidney damage.
