23.01.2022 Samsung Washing Machine Recall update I have copied and pasted to-days news story and urge you all to read it. Please contact our office if you are one of these customers or know of one for correct action to take. CONSUMERS united by fears their washing machine could kill their family or someone else’s have forced one of the world’s largest companies into an estimated $100 million backdown. ... Samsung has agreed to refund or replace as many as 148,000 washing machines following unstinting pressure from administrators of a Facebook group set up in June that now has nearly 2000 machine-owner members. For two years, Samsung has been telling customers the machines only need to be repaired. Through the group it was revealed that the repair was suspect, that the machine failure was major, as defined by the Australian Consumer Law, which meant it was not good enough for Samsung to only offer a repair, and that more than 3700 machines had been repaired in the factory then sold as new. The administrators pressured authorities into upgrading the recall and brought to wider attention story after story of near-tragedy due to washing machine blazes. Someone had to make the fires stop and protect our families, said Seven Hills mother Tarnya Allen, one of the administrators of the Samsung Washing Machine Recall - Consumer Support Facebook group.

Water supplies reach critical levels in Douglas SHire Posted On 27 Mar 2018 WATER supplies have reached critical levels in Douglas Shire as the region’s water treatment plans struggle to keep up with continued rainfall. Douglas Shire Council has urged residents to stop using hoses to clean mud and limit their usage to essential needs to help stabilise supplies.... Water supply to Port Douglas is at 16% and is only expected to last another five hours at current usage rates. Mayor Julia Leu said the situation was urgent. Everyone must put their hoses away and stop using large amounts of water, she said. This is a serious situation and cleaning mud is not urgent. Every single resident has a responsibility to save our water supply. We do not want to reach a point where no one has access to clean water for several days, but that is where we are heading. I urge everyone to talk to their neighbours and make sure no one is using hoses or has sprinklers turned on. Council Local Laws team will be patrolling to ensure residents are complying with the complete hosing ban. The recent deluge has caused sand and debris to block the intakes. These high turbidity levels slow down the water treatment process, required to make clean and safe water. Water can’t be added to the supply if it is not clean and safe. See more

16.01.2022 ‘Demand full refund on dodgy Samsung washers’ says consumer group Choice A Samsung washing machine that was due to be repaired has caught fire in a home in Lake Macquarie, New South Wales. Consumer group Choice has reacted saying consumers should demand a full refund on the faulty machines.... No one was injured in the most recent incident, as the family of four managed to get out of the house after the fire broke out in their laundry around 6:30pm on Tuesday (23 June 2015). The ABC reported, Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Tom Cooper said the owners had identified the machine as one of the models on the recall list, but were continuing to use it while waiting for repairs. Firefighters are urging people that if you do have one of these washing machines that’s subject to a recall notice, to stop using it, wait until a technician comes along and fixes it, he said. In April 2013 Samsung Electronics Australia recalled six top load washing machines, sold nationally between early 2010 and 28 February 2013. Since then 60,765 affected models have been serviced or replaced and around 83,000 washing machines are yet to be serviced or replaced. Choice claims there has been 196 confirmed incidents with the recalled machines, 18 of those occurred after machines had apparently been repaired. If you have a potentially faulty Samsung washing machine it is time to act to protect your family, said Choice head of media Tom Godfrey. We are encouraging consumers with a faulty machine to seek a full refund. We are not confident that the repairs Samsung is making are fixing the problem. Under Australian Consumer Law consumers have to power to seek a full refund for products that have major failures such as these Samsung top loaders. It is concerning to think that more than 144,000 Samsung machines are affected, with the vast majority still in people’s homes. The fact is, you do not want one of these dodgy Samsung washing machines in your home, he said. Both The Good Guys and Harvey Norman have taken this action. This is the preferred action recommended by the ACCC.
