10.01.2022 This post was intended to be an upbeat Happy New Year message, and I do truely hope 2021 is a happy year for all. But as I sat and pondered my words, and reflected on the year that has been, I really didn’t feel that cliche Happy New Year well wishes was going to cut it. For many, today marks the day they lost their loved ones, their homes, their businesses, their livelihoods and their lives as they knew it. They experienced the sheer horror that was the New Years Eve fir...es of 2019 and then shortly thereafter were confronted with the uncertainty of a global pandemic. Throw a few floods and severe storms in the mix and you have a year that has tested the resilience of many. Its combined toll almost brought us to our knees....almost. But we’re a tough bunch, tougher than we realise, and if you are struggling to find anything good that came out of 2020, the fact that we’re still showing up each day, contributing to the world and and essentially saying f$&k you to 2020 is something worth celebrating. We got through and we should consider that an achievement, a win, a real back patting moment. And whilst I look forward to what the new year might bring, I will never forget the suffering that so many endured, and still endure. And I will never forget the heroics and generosity that so many exhibited. The firies, the emergency services workers, the many volunteers, the thousands who donated money and the neighbours who simply checked in on each other. You’re all heroes in my book and tonight I celebrate you! Happy New Year! Xo
