25.01.2022 Last Wednesday evening we held our end of year Christmas Concert. Once again we were so proud of all of the ELC children who got up on stage and performed in front of many family and friends. A lot of effort went into preparing for the concert and this certainly showed on the night with multiple talents on display. A fun night was had by all, especially the children, so thank you once again for your continued support.

23.01.2022 With prayer and thanksgiving, we celebrated the Year 6 graduating class with a heartfelt liturgy as they passed the student leadership baton onto the up coming ...Year 6 students. We also took a moment to farewell all the students and staff who are leaving MTS at the end of the year. Until we meet again, may you be held in the palm of Gods hands. See more

21.01.2022 The Purple Star Fish have been learning about the community where they belong. Today they enjoyed listening to a book called "Our Bush Capital' by Samantha Tidy and Juliette Dudley. This book sparked lots of excitement regarding all of the familiar places. To extend their knowledge and sense of belonging, the children are going to be making their own class book of places they visit around Canberra on the Canberra long weekend.

19.01.2022 Welcome to Mother Teresa ELC virtual centre tour 2020

19.01.2022 We would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our families a Happy Easter. During this unfortunate time not all of our children are attending the centre due to the COVID-19 virus. Sarah Irvin (pictured below as she's just setting off on her travels to home deliver) As passionate Early Childhood Educators we understand the importance of building and sustaining strong relationships with our children and the importance of keeping the wonderful connections already buil...t. During this time we are having to think outside the box to ensure we continue to connect. The children were thrilled to see their teachers and the parents could not thank us enough for what we are doing, "a highlight to their child's day" a parent said "the first words out of my daughters mouth in the morning, when will I see my teacher on the ipad?" I would just like this opportunity to thank all of our wonderful MTS ELC staff for going above and beyond in making all of children happy during these uncertain times (and all other times too). 19.01.2022 Last Thursday Evening we held our annual ELC Art Show, once again all the hard work paid off and the night was a huge success. This year the charity we chose to support was 'Dolly's Dream' - set up in memory of Amy 'Dolly' Everett, aged 14. Dolly's Dream's mission is: "To empower and educate our community to prevent bullying and cyber-bullying." All donations from each art piece went towards supporting 'Dolly's Dream', thank you to those that were able to attend and donate on the night or have done so since. The children put a lot of time and effort into their individual pieces and this certainly showed in the caliber of work.

18.01.2022 Yesterday marked the Anniversary of Apology to Australia's Indigenous Peoples. To mark this anniversary each class shared an early childhood story ‘Sorry Sorry’ written and illustrated by Anne Kerr. This book was used as our first step of informing our young children of a significant aspect of Australian history, with age appropriate illustrations and dialogue. It sparked many different conversations of intrigued in each of the classes, a platform where understanding, appreciation and respect for All Peoples can be built.

15.01.2022 Last week as a whole school we celebrated 'Grandparents Day.' During the morning the Grandparents were treated to a concert in the hall where each year level performed a musical act. They were then invited back to the classroom to look around, participate in an activity or browse through their grandchild's work. Thank you to all of those that were able to attend this celebration.

15.01.2022 Over the last week across the ELC many hands have made light work to recreate a new garden at our ELC entrance. With the help of Mrs Mac, some grandparents and parents and our preschool classes, the old stones were cleared so work could begin. On Wednesday, the Blue Whales worked together in small groups to move the final stones from the path to the cart and transfer them to the rubbish skip. The children were very excited to help, and though they needed some help with put...ting on their safety gloves, they certainly had the upper body strength to lift, carry and place the stones. Mrs Mac Were then able to lay the pavers, stones and small grasses to create a beautiful, respectful garden. The pavers were created by each class during Reconciliation Week to acknowledge our indigenous heritage. Including them in our entry garden reminds us of the importance of respecting our land, culture and our social responsibility and to help care for our environment. They will also serve as a permanent reminder of our 2020 community and the relationships we built.

13.01.2022 After 8 and a half years as Director at Mother Teresa ELC, I have decided to step back into the classroom full time. It has been an amazing experience and a privilege to work with so many children and families, and support and lead such a fantastic team of Educators. I look forward to remaining part of the Mother Teresa community as I return to my passion for teaching and take up the role of lead educator in the Blue Whale class. Thank you for all your support over the years.

12.01.2022 Yesterday it was World Read Aloud Day. Each day here at Mother Teresa we read with the children as we understand the importance. Reading to children increases their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. It helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word.

12.01.2022 Here at MTS ELC we understand the importance of creating a sense of belonging for all children, through an inclusive and respectful environment to ensure all children feel a sense of belonging, so they develop confidence and self-identity. Developing a sense of belonging from a young age allows children to feel confident in exploring new ideas, engaging in learning and being self-expressive. During these uncertain times some of our community have chosen to stay at home and p...articipate with our program via distance learning . Through this current choice of learning we are making sure strong connections continue between us all. Braedan joined the Yellow Seahorse program from home to follow instructions on how to create an amazing bug with his daddy. He is so proud of his creation he wanted to come to school today to share his wonderful creature with his friends. Together we can continue to work together to set them up to be strong leaders in the future.

06.01.2022 Today we had our annual Walkathon. The ELC children walked to Franklin Park had a short play and then returned back to school. It was a very windy walk but we had lots of fun doing it. Afterwards the children enjoyed a yummy sausage sizzle for lunch. As an ELC we raised $2674, thank you to everyone for their fabulous fundraising efforts.

05.01.2022 I would like to take his opportunity to welcome all of our new families to Mother Teresa ELC. As you can see it is only our second day here and we have settled well. We are building beautiful relationships with everyone and having so much fun investigating our new environments.

04.01.2022 Kenny Koala came in to visit all the ELC classes and teach them about car and road safety. They also got to look at Kenny's special police car and hear the siren.

02.01.2022 On Shrove Tuesday everyone had the opportunity to cook pancakes. On Wednesday we all learnt the importance of Ash Wednesday. After the lesson Elsie, one of our Yellow Seahorses chose to paint a picture. This picture shows her remarkable understanding.

01.01.2022 Please welcome our new member of Green Turtles, Jerry! The children have been a little concerned about our resident Magpies stealing their food. They all brainstormed together to come up with a solution..... a scarecrow! All of the GT children took part in designing and making Jerry and are delighted with their work. Let's hope it does the trick!

01.01.2022 A huge thank you to the wonderful team from Bike Culture in Gungahlin for hosting the Blue Whales class on Wednesday morning and teaching them a thing or two about the mechanics and parts of bicycles. The children had a wonderful time exploring and asking questions and it was great to let them follow their interest with a hands on inqury experience. What a great school community connection to have. We are very lucky.
