23.01.2022 Today was market day so also popped into @thesourcecamberwell to stock up on my fave toasted almonds for snacking as well as some (Australian) organic dried currants and shredded coconut I’m thinking of adding to my Nepali rice pudding mix that I make for new Mamas. Happy to also find some sustainably harvested Victorian lake salt to try in my bath mixes as well as my rosemary salt I’ve been making annually for years and tend to gift at Christmas. Many use the pretty Himalay...an salt for bath soaks but I’ve moved away from buying it in the last year or so after reading an article on it by @lauratrottadotcom for @1millionwomen looking at the sustainability of harvesting such huge amounts of it (it’s a finite resource), how it impacts the local community in Pakistan and of course the food miles embodied in it too, particularly since we have many Australian salt options (I tend to use Murray River for day to day cooking and finishing). Any other Aussie salt options I should be looking at? Have a few on my list but always happy to have more! #eatlocal #sustainableliving #consciousconsumption See more

22.01.2022 A bottle of @villageformama Supermama Elixir delivered to a special Mum today. It’s a beautiful nourishing blend infused with herbs, dried berries and other goodies that taste as good as it looks Ready-made infusions like this will be featuring in my first lot of food packs that I can deliver to local Melb Mamas and I have also blended the dry components as part of a care package that includes the Village For Mama cookbook and a few other goodies so you can get straight into making the recipes and not hunting down the individual ingredients. *My printer has just stopped working so as soon as it’s fixed hopefully next week and I can print labels I’m good to go. #postpartumcare

22.01.2022 And just a reminder:: postpartum isn’t over at your 6-week checkup - you’ll forever be postpartum and deserving of care

19.01.2022 I did this course in 2018 and while I was already living a relatively eco-friendly, low tox lifestyle, I learnt so much about the how’s and whys I was consciously making these choices. If you want a fantastic overview into what’s really going on behind the scenes of the things you use and consume daily - you’ll find this course so valuable. I’m so grateful to the work Alexx has put into creating this resource and being part of the Low Tox community (and am still learning so much every day!)

15.01.2022 Bath time bliss Baths are so much more than a way to get clean. They can be healing and soothing at times when everything feels just a bit much. I included all the things pictured in my care packs as they are what I genuinely love and use: Dried herbs (specifically blended for postpartum but lovely for anytime - I often blend them with a cup of magnesium flakes), my favourite washcloth and olive oil soap

15.01.2022 Making up little tester spice kits today so a perfect chance to pull out my Indian spice container (Masala dabba) and top it up. I’d normally take it with me when cooking (because no one wants to be out searching for a random spice like asafoetita!) *which incidentally is the one in the middle that needs it’s own tin with tight-sealing lid because of the strong smell... To be honest Indian (and more specifically Ayurvedic) cooking is quite new to me in the past couple of years so I’m still learning. Most of the commercial kitchens I cooked in were euro/Italian focused and the types of curries I grew up with were Malaysian style. I still don’t love cumin but I’m learning to like it and can tolerate the smell in my kitchen these days! #postpartumfood #nourishingnewmothers

15.01.2022 Rosemary and lemon thyme from the garden, washed, spun and out to dry. I’ll then then blend up and mix up with salt and gift over the coming months

11.01.2022 A wonderful reminder in this series of slides from Lyndsey at Feed Sleep Bond that there’s no such thing as ‘junk sleep’ and that short/cat naps are not always a bad thing when we remember that every baby has differing sleep needs and sleep pressures

10.01.2022 When the rose geranium gets an impromptu mid-season prune

09.01.2022 So simple but oh-so comforting and nutrient-dense cottage pie. This version is by @villageformama as part of Leila’s beautiful recipe book. I’ll be showcasing a few of the recipes (including this one) in my autumn menu offerings and also have a small number of the books available to purchase I’ll be soon also launching a half day stand-alone cooking offering where I’ll come in and help you stock your pantry and freezer ready for those early days of postpartum -when you need to have easy-to serve, easy to eat food and drinks ready, pronto! I’m putting the final tweaks on the carefully chosen menu items to nourish and nurture with each bite #postpartumfood #nourishingthemother #postpartumprep #postpartumdoula #mothercare #fourthtrimester

09.01.2022 New reads all perfect for this strange and difficult time in Melbourne (and how lovely are the colourways of the books together?). I struggle with concentration (and memory) with reading fiction and/or dense information so I love that these books in particular are easy to read in little snippets #whenlifeisnotpeachy #phospherescence #mamarising

06.01.2022 Finally! The care packs are ready These packs have been put together with much love and consideration with the goal of providing new Mums with practical, useful and beautiful items to support them physically and emotionally during the vulnerable weeks and months of postpartum. This is what I would include in a care pack for the Mamas I work with postpartum so I decided to spread the love a little further while we are so much more isolated (esp here in Melbourne). I have ch...osen items that draw on traditional postpartum practices that are used worldwide to encourage rest and healing using items and ingredients that are kind to not only our mind and bodies but also the planet :) Almost everything is locally sourced and buying one of these care packs supports so many other Australian small businesses, not just my own. Each pack comes with an information sheet with details of each item and instructions on how to best benefit from them. I can also include a hand-written gift card if you would like . Almost all items, including packaging are reusable, recyclable or home compostable. I hope you (or a new Mama in your life) loves them as much as I have enjoyed putting them together. This is a first run to guage interest with only three available in each size at this introductory price of $149 for the standard pack and $69 for the mini-version. I plan to have a few other beautiful items included in the next round too if there's enough interest! Shipping will be dependent on location (approximate costs within major cities being around $12-15 using Sendle). Free local delivery within the city of Boroondara (Melb). Details of contents in next post as I can’t fit it all in here Please DM or email me to organise. Thank you so much

04.01.2022 Nice warm spot along with my philodendron and preserved plums from a few days ago. I’ve not fermented a lot in the past due to my histamine intolerance but want to try to slowly introduce them more as my gut heals. I’ll also use the kombucha to make gummies and flavour second ferments to take to home visits. I have the equipment (from my ginger brewing last year), lots of bottles and a kitchen that’s registered and set up for it so figure why not?! Any favourite flavour combos I should try?

04.01.2022 It’s cooled right back down here in Melbourne and I’m feeling like a bit of comfort food so I cooked up a pot of congee tonight. Whenever I was sick growing up Mum (or Dad) always made this for us but we also ate it just as a regular meal! It’s a perfect postpartum food - warming, nourishing and easy to digest. This one has ginger and the added goodness of chicken stock - and a little chicken thigh stirred through too (I get the butcher to mince it as I prefer dark meat plus it has a higher iron content). It’s the Chinese version of the Indian Kitchari which I also offer new Mums - it just depends on what they feel like Topped with spring onions, tamari and black sesame seeds and plenty of leftovers for the next few day #postpartumfood #postpartumcare #nourishthemother

01.01.2022 Bath soak tip:: if you are like me and don’t love the feeling of the loose dried herbs in the bath (or the cleanup required) throw your mix into a produce, nut milk or any other kind of cotton drawstring bag and secure with a rubber band. The smaller muslin ones are great if you have a smaller amount but I tend to use a fair amount of both herbs and magnesium so find this easier. No essential oils in these blends so I’m not fussed about using a produce bag - plus will wash it anyways. I tested a bunch of different combos of magnesiums and herbs during the latter part of lockdown (packaging, herb/mag ratios) so using them up now. This is a long-marinated blend of mag flakes and postnatal herbs that I let go a bit too far and wasn’t airtight enough hence it become a little dark and clumpy. I also added a cup of Epsom salts
