25.01.2022 Self Care Sunday One way we can look after our own mental health and also nurture the mental health of our children is to regularly reflect on what different struggles have taught us (or continue to teach us). This doesn’t mean we brush off the potential sadness or pain that different struggles have brought. In fact, the first step in building resilience is to acknowledge and name our emotions (and to support our children to do the same). The beginning of a new year is a ...perfect time to start to practice reflecting on the lessons and growth that may have stemmed from struggle Important note If you’re not ready to reflect, that is perfectly okay! Just make sure you reach out if you need support. As we enter a new year, we wish to remind our Mother Duck Family of the following community supports: https://www.blackdoginstitute.org.au/emergency-help/ https://www.lifeline.org.au https://www.beyondblue.org.au #ittakesacommunity #motherduckfamily

Our hearts have been so full this week as we have read through the comments posted, cards delivered and emails that were sent through. It is a privilege to do what we do each... and every day and as much as we have the honour of impacting the lives of your children, they very much impact our lives in return Thank you once again - this week has been another example of the amazing community we have within Mother Duck Childcare! #EarlyChildhoodEducatorsDay #ittakesacommunity #motherduckfamily

22.01.2022 Having a laugh and enjoying time together is something we love doing as a team. It boosts trust, collaboration and wellbeing This time around it was a Balloon Art Competition, and look, there were no experts, but out of a toilet seat, mistletoe, Christmas present and wreath, the mistletoe took out the win!!!!!! #motherduckfamily

22.01.2022 Our Centre Franchisee, Miss Cathy celebrated her 20 years of service at the end of last year! This piccy is particularly special as the four women (Miss Megan, Miss Monique, Miss Karen and Miss Cathy) pictured with Mr Denis Hinton (Chairperson of the Board), were the original team at our Manly Centre (purchased by Mother Duck in 2000). Back in 2000 Mother Duck Manly was operated by our now CEO, Miss Karen. A lot of history right here as these women have literally grown up together - something that makes Mother Duck Childcare so unique #motherduckfamily

22.01.2022 Our Kindy Studio Team are consistently supporting children to follow a planning process that we refer to as - Think, say, draw, do. This process supports children’s ability to plan, communicate and express ideas, as well as reflect and refine their work as they bring their plans to life. Sometimes this process takes place individually, in small groups and sometimes collectively. An example of the children’s collective planning was over the last few months when Miss Alison’s daughter (Hayley) volunteered her time to create a mural. Below you will find the children’s planning and drawing as well as some images of Hayley busy at work to bring these plans to life

19.01.2022 Self Care Sunday Check-In Whether this weekend was full of enjoyable moments, challenging moments, exciting moments or painful moments (or maybe a mix of all of it!), it is so essential for our wellbeing as people to make attempts to look for the good. This good might not always seem obvious straight away. It could be tainted with disappointment or hidden under shattered expectations. So here are some ideas to help us see through the fog:... - A warm cup of coffee enjoyed on your own or with someone you love. - The warmth of the sunshine on your skin as you watched your children play outside. - The little hand of your child, reaching for yours to cross the road, trusting you to keep them safe. - Snuggled up on the couch with a loved one watching TV (even if it was Octonauts or PJ Masks!!!) - The softness of your pillow as you nodded off to sleep.... Although looking for the small, yet good moments dont take away the challenging ones, when reflections stir happiness in us, our brains release even more chemicals that help us feel better. Small, good thoughts are incredibly powerful!!!

18.01.2022 This year has been unlike anything our community as a whole has experienced before. The impacts of COVID-19 have caused collective trauma to varying degrees for all of us. During the Mental Health First Aid Course that our key leaders undertook a few months ago, we learnt the importance of knowing what to say and do beyond are you okay?. This little video highlights some simple strategies that we encourage everyone to keep in mind. Struggling with mental health concerns do...es not make someone weak or decrease their worth as a person. As human beings we are wired for connection and therefore when someone is struggling, it takes the courage, empathy and kindness of a community of people who are brave enough to ask R U OK?. It truly does take a community .... #motherduckfamily #ittakesacommunity https://loom.ly/nx92rz0

18.01.2022 Did you know that there are many ways in which adults can support the development of empathy in young children??? Empathy is a skill that can be developed and it’s a skill that is essential for healthy relationships and healthy communities! Just one example of how we support children to develop empathy and social responsibility is involving children in opportunities to help those in need. For example, last Friday the children and educators participated in Bandana Day. This... day helps raise much needed funds for Canteen through the sale of their bandanas. We participate in this day every year in support of families in our Mother Duck Community, as well as the wider community who are currently living through a childhood cancer diagnosis This is what community is all about! Check out the video link below about simple tips on how as adults we can support the development of empathy in children: https://www.motherduck.com.au/childhood-development-of-emp/

15.01.2022 NAIDOC Week 2020 acknowledges and celebrates that our nation’s story didn’t begin with documented European contact whether in 1770 or 1606 - with the arrival of the Dutch on the western coast of the Cape York Peninsula. The very first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples. This week provides a wonderful opportunity to continue to support children to understand their nation’s history and the part we all play today in embracing and celebra...ting Aboriginal & Torres Straight Islander peoples, perspectives and history. #NAIDOC2020

We would love all of our Mother Duck family and friends to collect their bread clips to donate to this worthy cause.

11.01.2022 An excellent read!

10.01.2022 Our inquisitive and resourceful children Kindy have been working in their rock area to create a river bed. Last week, they added water to their river bed and saw the pavers get wet and dry instantly in the hot weather. Miss Alison moved the pavers to a different part of the studio with a small bucket and paint brushes for the children to continue to explore this idea in different weather conditions (hotter, cooler, windy weather etc). A lot of opportunity for questioning, hypothesizing and collaborating!

10.01.2022 Today we celebrate all the incredible male role models in our lives. To the dads, step-dads, foster dads, granddads, uncles and other father-figures... the part you play in our families and communities is so important. We hope today you know just how loved, valued, and appreciated you are! Happy Fathers Day!

10.01.2022 Day 2 of Miss Laras Dare to Lead online workshop (her puppy keeping her company through lots of deep and reflective conversation!) A day full of discussion around the importance of empathy, how to cultivate a strong empathy skill set and how this impacts how we lead. Such an incredible learning opportunity as leaders, but also a wonderful affirmation of the work we are doing with Dr Deborah Harcourt and our Reconfiguring Quality Project. Empathy is a skill that can be learnt and developed and it directly impacts our ability to connect effectively with others. Empathy is a skill that runs deeper than just what we do, but directly impacts WHO we are... something that is essential to explore with children as we continue to invest in the future adult citizens and leaders of our society! #ittakesacommunity #motherduckfamily

10.01.2022 Sealife came to visit the centre last week! The Senior Studio and Kindergarten children learnt about so many different sea creatures and ways that we can all make sure these beautiful creatures stay safe and healthy in the ocean. What an amazing experience for both the children and educators! What new facts did your little ones come home with?

10.01.2022 This image captures our outdoor playground in the Nursery Studio where Miss Liza has intentionally created an invitation to explore. As children access the sandpit (either independently or with educator support), they are activating core muscles as they pull themselves up and onto the wooden platform. Core muscles, as well as other larger muscle groups are critical for many areas of a child’s development

10.01.2022 Involving children in opportunities to care for others and to contribute to their community, has an incredible impact on their development of empathy, care and respect. As our Visiting Chief Curriculum Officer, Dr Deborah Harcourt has inspired us to consider, aspirations that we hold for the future of our children arent just about what they will do, but rather who they will be. https://loom.ly/cN1WFTA If you would like to join Mother Duck in supporting superheroes like Richie, head to: https://loom.ly/VdTSkQY
