22.01.2022 MOTHERHOOD ~ If people knew how bad this was....they would be sterilised on their thirteenth birthday. Whilst reading ‘Sad Mum Lady’ I felt like Ashe Davenport had crawled into the dark corners of my mind and exposed every thought I’ve had about motherhood. In this memoir, Ashe doesn’t back pedal to the safety of but it’s the best job in the world. ‘Sad Mum Lady’ is vulnerable, confronting & hilarious. This is exactly the book I wish I’d found when gasping for air and t...yping into Google motherhood sucks, hoping I wasn’t the only one drowning. I’m not sure if it was intentional but each story (chapter) is short enough that I could get through it before summoned back to snack b*tch duties. If the pressure of perfect parenting is weighing you down, PLEASE read this book. There are other Mums that feel the same. But Ashe is one of the very few that’s unapologetically frank about it. You’ll certainly pause more often than not, asking did she really just write that? Yes she did and THANK f*ck someone did. Sad Mum Lady Author: Ashe Davenport Publisher: Allen & Unwin Books Gifted for honest review. I only post books I like. _________________ To find your next book, podcast or show FOLLOW my friend Leah & I over at Add to list ladies. Or join our Facebook group Add to list ladies - THE GROUP.

21.01.2022 I cried today. Tears of frustration. Because my house was messy. And my constant tidying & cleaning was no match for the tornado of destruction (aka - my kids & man child). After I got out of the shower, I found the kids had stripped all of the beds. The beds I’d just made. First world problem? Yep. But it set me off. Most days I’d probs laugh about this & say kids hey? But not today. Heads were gonna roll!... I lost my sh^t at everyone. Did it make me feel good? Mmm no. I told them I quit & wasn’t doing a damn thing today. Did it make me feel good? Mmm no. I went for a walk by myself & ranted on stories. Did it make me feel good? A little. Y’all are good listeners. Ta. I put the Savage Remix with Beyoncé on repeat. Did it make me feel good? Kind of. I’m certainly feeling more sassy, moody, nasty. Then I cried. And it felt good. Real good. Exactly what I needed. When was the last time you had a big ol’ cry?

18.01.2022 While searching for books that share Indigenous stories & voices, I can’t ignore the fact that developing my kid’s literacy skills and having access to books is a privilege. If we truly want to give Indigenous people a voice - they need access to programs, resources, platforms & skills that allow this. Literacy opens a world of opportunities for children. Which has a ripple effect on their families & communities.... Is there a way to help bridge the gap of literacy levels in Australia? YES! Is there a way to support Indigenous people to share their stories? YES! The Indigenous Literacy Foundation is on a mission to provide equal opportunity for Indigenous children by lifting their literacy rates, providing access to books & publishing community stories. Donating $50 to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation will put 5 books into the hands of Indigenous children in remote communities. Here’s some of the incredible impact of the foundation’s work: Gifted over 350,000 new books and literacy resources to over 400 remote communities Implemented early literacy Book Buzz program in over 30 remote communities Published/funded 88 Community Literacy Projects To learn about, share or donate, visit www.indigenousliteracyfoundation.org.au INDIGENOUS LIVES MATTER _________ Welcome to Country Author - Aunty Jo Murphy Illustrator - Lisa Kennedy Sharing & honouring the Aboriginal ceremony of Welcome to Country.

16.01.2022 TWINS do they run in your family? Firstly re-laaax, I’m not having anymore kids. Ok, with that out the way, let’s get back to the topic . On my Mum’s side of the fam, there’s numerous identical twins. My Nana & Grandad we’re BOTH twins. They had a set of twins girls. One of my aunties had twin girls.... Then one of my cousins had twin girls. And whenever I consider a 3rd child, I just think about what happened when Bec Judd went for a 3rd (& got a surprising 4th ). But, I have to admit, part of me used to wish for them when I first fell pregnant. Are you a twin Mama? Or got twins in the fam?

12.01.2022 And that’s a wrap! Hanging up my teacher hat & back into Mum-mode. How’d you go Mama? I liked being in the ‘know’ with my son’s education. Rather than being greeted with nothing or can’t remember when I’d ask him about what he got up to at school . Also, it’s been incredible to see him grasp new concepts. Did y’all see my stories yesterday where my 5 yr old works out 5 x 22 on his own? 6 weeks ago he could only count to 10 . But it wasn’t always rosy - I have ver...y little patience & I’m a recovering perfectionist (Virgo - ‘nuff said). So it was often a frustrating experience for both of us. Lemme tell you - I won’t be winning any teacher of the year awards. Anywho, I’m looking forward to having thinking space (& actually physical space) from my kids next week. We did it Mamas, we friggen did it! High-five . And does anyone know if we’ll be invited to the teacher’s end of year shindig? Kind of feel like we deserve it... See more

05.01.2022 Do you read the prologue? Not me . I prefer to get my fix of eye-porn from the first chapter. But after ‘End of book sadness’ (a real syndrome where you prolong the story by reading all the boring acknowledgements etc), I finally read the prologue of this book. And call me a fool, but I really should have read it BEFORE. Lesson learned (or is it learnt? ). Any-whooo, here’s my recap of this Jojo Moyes read: The Giver of Stars ~ To be honest, the idea of reading a story ...about a group of women in a traveling library, that’s set in Kentucky in the 1930’s, didn’t sound like MY THING. I’m more of a contemporary gal. But...there was enough love for the characters of Alice & Margery to keep me turning the page (& ignoring my toddler who found a friggen texta ). Alice is an English girl who yearns for her American hubby Bennet, to love her the way a hubby ought to love his wife (if ya know what I mean ). But it’s Margery O’Hare who takes the cake. She’s opinionated, independent & unconventional (basically everything 1930’s society despises & tries to repress in women). She’s got a no f*cks given ‘tude that makes you root for her and her mission to keep the library going. There’s sweet love stories too (grab the tissues & let it flooow). But I really like the way all of the loose ends are tied up. It delivers closure, that’s so rare in fiction these days. ..... Scrolled? Read this book - it’s surprisingly good .
