25.01.2022 It can be a such a special gift when someone allows you the opportunity to talk freely and openly about your mum. Here are some comments from women in our community who kindly shared how they feel when they talk about their mum. How does it make you feel?

25.01.2022 We love hearing about the connections and meaningful friendships women have been able to establish through Motherless Daughters Australia. Imogen and Sally met earlier this year and bonded over their shared pain of mother loss. Together, they started The Good Mourning Podcast where they explore and share stories of grief and loss to create more conversations about the topic. The podcast launches tomorrow morning and is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and all other major podcast platforms.

24.01.2022 Fancy a spot of yoga and meditation to kick off your Saturday morning? Why not join in for the fourth and final week of our MDA Fitness Challenge! https://www.trybooking.com/BLBKP Li Mei will be running the 45 minute, 9am session on zoom where you'll be able to participate and meet other women from our community.... Li Mei believes part of her life’s purpose is to help reduce emotional stress through mindful yoga teaching. As a qualified high school teacher she regularly uses yoga with her students to bring mindfulness to her classrooms. Having completed 200hr teacher trainings in India, Indonesia, Canada and USA, she has a wealth of offerings to share. Mei started a private one-on-one, in-home yoga business "Shanti Shanti Therapy" and she also runs all girls classes in schools. Mei’s practice focuses on therapeutic movements for healing and relaxation. She explores the elements of dance and body awareness, connecting breath to movement. Her sequences allow exploration of subtle anatomy and energetic layers through a fluid flow; balancing powerful softness and supported gentleness.

24.01.2022 It's Grand Final Eve aka Thank You Day 2020, for the sacrifices we have all made to contain COVID-19. Was your mum a footy fanatic who worshipped her footy team? Maybe she picked a team based on the colours? Or, maybe she just wasn't into footy at all! We'd love you to share who your mum barracked for and why - pictures too, if you have them!... #motherlessdaughtersau #missyoumum #rememberingmum #thankyou

22.01.2022 Our co-founder Danielle, caught up with the girls from Good Mourning Podcast to chat about her experience of early mother loss and how our very special organisation that is now helping thousands of women, came about. Danielle shares her story and coping strategies she used when she lost her mum at 23 years old and how she has learned to navigate life without her over time. We hope you enjoy! ... The Good Mourning Podcast is on a mission to normalise the topic of grief and loss, through candid conversations and shared experiences.

21.01.2022 As our most busiest time and week comes to a close, we would love to take this opportunity to share some videography from our Melbourne event, whereby 160 women gathered. We were fortunate to have Tilly and Hannah from @storyteller.weddingfilms donate their services to create this incredible montage for us. We are feeling so proud of our awareness achievements as it's resulted in over 1500 more women and girls finding out about us! We are stoked that both our efforts and your...s, has resulted in more conversations, next level acknowledgement, awareness, validation and inclusion. We've still got a long way to go - there are 3.7 million Australian women and girls whose mums have died, 1.2 million of them lost their Mum before age 44. That's an extraordinary number of women who have faced or are facing some of life's most precious milestones without their Mum. If you are feeling alone today, or any day, always remember that there is an entire community of women in the same shoes rallying beside and behind you. We are here for you.

20.01.2022 Let's turn the comments into a photo gallery of the women who continue to bring a whole community together

19.01.2022 Grief is a rollercoaster of emotions, it is not linear. We can be at any stage at any point in time and feel all or any of these emotions in a single moment and throughout our lives. Grief never leaves us and it sometimes rears its head when we least expect it to. We are all at different stages of grief as we live without our mum. At MDA, we try our very best to connect with one another, provide support, and share information to help you navigate mother loss and life as you ...now know it, as best we can. #motherlessdaughtersau #motherloss #missingmum

19.01.2022 Here it is! Our giant collage of some of the mums who have brought our community together Thank you to those who submitted a photo for us to include in this special piece.

17.01.2022 We know losing mum is one of life's most difficult experiences and many friends, family, and colleagues may not know what to say after they ask R U OK? or may not even ask the question at all after a period of time. So we are asking, R U OK? We recognise that this current climate has led to missing visits to mum, not being able to acknowledge mum's anniversary, or not being with loved ones when you may need it the most. So as a community let's check in. Make a call, write a card or send some flowers. Something so small like asking R U OK? or sending a message to say we are thinking of you, can mean so much/make all the difference.

17.01.2022 Grief and loss is challenging and sometimes the challenges varies depending on who has died. Grief competition is so common - often, people start to emerge from the woodwork, distant family, who claim to be 'so close' to the person who died, or who 'just doesn't know how they're going to live without them'. And then the 'at least' comments start to follow. Nothing like a good old 'at least' sentence starter piss you off!... Was your Mum the glue? Did people compete with your loss? Did your family unit suffer as a result of your Mum's death? **This post is public as it is on our public Facebook page. Anything you comment may or may not show up on your friend's newsfeed.

14.01.2022 This is Lauren and her mum Bronwyn waiting to board their flight home to Rockhampton to visit family. Bronwyn always took pride in looking her best regardless of where she was going, and somehow she would always find a similar version of her outfit to dress Lauren in - as she’s done in this photo. "Even though now I make my own decisions about clothes and how I dress, since her passing I really miss having her input or having her pick things out for me like she always did. E...verywhere I went I was so proud to say, My mum dressed me." - Lauren. We know that there are happy memories we hold onto. What is your favourite memory of your mum? It could be a moment, a smell, a sound, a holiday - anything. Please share in a comment below. #motherlessdaughtersau #mum #motherloss

13.01.2022 Inspired by Option B, we've put the following together in a bid to help your family and friends be a little more equipped with how to help and what to say. 13.01.2022 Quite often, we develop the very best advice once we've experienced something. This is no different, and your advice that you would give to yourself may just help someone very early on in their loss. #motherlessdaughters #motherloss #griefandloss

13.01.2022 As we approach Christmas, summer holidays and a New Year, we thought we would share some 'Mum Hacks'. Little handy hints and tricks that Mums just seem to know. 10.01.2022 Our co founder, Danielle, said that she would get a tattoo of the #drawherwings symbol in honour of her Mum, Rosa, if we raised a minimum of $3000 during our Motherloss Awareness Week. And, we did... plus more! Thank you to Fine Line Tattoos for supporting our cause and donating their time and services to tattoo this very special piece of artwork. ... We will announce how much we raised during awareness week as soon as the final donations come through.

10.01.2022 We know that there are women in our community who had very challenging relationships with their mum. We also know that some of you have had to walk away, cut ties with and become estranged with your mum due to toxic, narcissistic or abusive behaviour. We want to acknowledge that this is also a type of mother loss. Sometimes, some mothers just don't have the ability, skill and/or capacity to provide unconditional, respectful, reciprocal love and care. This article talks about the presence of gaslighting in a mother/daughter relationship and we felt that it was important to share.

08.01.2022 Grieving for what could have and should have been can be one of the hardest things to get our heads around. How often do you catch yourself fantasising or imagining what your life may be like if your mum was still here?

08.01.2022 Do you find yourself oscillating between the two? Overwhelming feelings of sadness and wishing so hard that your mum could be here to see all things a mother loves to see and should be part of. Maybe at times, the greatest loss sits with our mothers.

06.01.2022 We usually anticipate that significant days are going to be awful and that we will struggle to cope. Most commonly, it's the lead up that is much, much worse than the day and when the day rolls around, we find it's actually a little bit okay and not as bad as we anticipated. However, perhaps we underestimate the anticlimax of these significant days and the spiral that can sometimes take place the day after. Today, we are acknowledging exactly that.

06.01.2022 Wishing our entire community love and peace this Christmas. We know it's a tough day for many and whatever you're feeling is normal and perfectly understandable. It's ok to hate the day and wish it would hurry up and be over. It's also equally ok to smile and enjoy it. Whatever works for you. So, to those who are missing their mum, those who are homesick, those who are grieving the loss of other family members or friends, those who are struggling to make the magic happen f...or kids, those who are emotionally drained and those of you who find yourself alone this Christmas... we see you. 05.01.2022 Which best represents your day so far?

04.01.2022 We know that the lead up to Mother’s Day and Mother’s Day itself is such a prominent reminder of what we no longer have. Weeks of ads, relentless promotion and then nothing - it all just stops. Which is no doubt a relief for many of you, but it also creates an eerie silence after such a big, loud build up. Which is why we will continue to honour them, say their names, ask you about them and remember them always.... As part of our giant collage, we also made a series of smaller ones and we're delighted to share them with you tonight. We have added 2-3 photos of each in the separate collages to ensure that photos aren't covered by others. We hope you have felt seen and heard, not only this past week, but every day.

04.01.2022 In case you missed today's update, the Victorian Government has announced new easing of restrictions for COVID-19 effective from 11:59pm 27 September, 2020. For our community, this means "A person may attend the resting place (a cemetery or columbarium) of a deceased relative for remembering a key milestone (e.g. birthday, date of death, anniversary). Exempt from the 5km rule, but can only travel to the resting place if it is within metropolitan Melbourne and must observe gathering requirements. Gathering limits are a household or up to five people from a maximum of two households." Whilst this is a small step during these tough times, it will mean so much to so many of us to be able to now visit mum. #missingmum #motherlessdaughtersau #motherloss
