20.01.2022 Hi everyone, and welcome to Mother Nurture Lactation! As this is my first post, I thought I would start with a little introduction to who I am, my vision and where my passion comes from. My name is Clare - I am a mum, a wife, a sister, a daughter, a friend, I am a nurse and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I still practice as a registered nurse in one of Melbourne’s biggest hospitals in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and it is here that ...my interest in breastfeeding began. When I had my own children, and breastfeeding did NOT come easily to me, watching my own lactation consultant at work, her words of wisdom, empowerment and love further opened my eyes to the IBCLC world. I had a lot of challenges along my way - tongue tied babies, nipple inversion and perceptions of myself and my inabilities. As I said, I’m a nurse and I consider myself to be a caring person by nature, but where my true passion for helping families on their breastfeeding journeys comes from, is my own experience, and wanting to prevent any other women from feeling what I felt - the guilt, the grief and feeling like I was failing at being a mum, when actually I was far from it! I was supported through this roller coaster of motherhood (and I still am) by my support network, and I was encouraged beyond measure. They say it takes a village, and I truly believe it does - I would love nothing more than to be part of your village. Xx See more
