22.01.2022 EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S END-OF-YEAR MESSAGE. Dear colleagues, parents, and all members of our Catholic school communities, The end of the year, and the season of A...dvent, is traditionally a time for reflection and renewal, a time to seek peace, to rediscover hope and to express our gratitude and love. In Catholic education, I have come to learn that gratitude grows from the bonds we create as we serve faithfully. And it comes from being part of a community serving a common purpose. We are fortunate to have 11,000 incredible people in our CEWA staff community all dedicated to providing safe, caring learning environments for the 77,000 students who enter our school gates each day. This year, it goes without saying, has been shaped by extraordinary events. Our staff, parents and broader communities have demonstrated the tremendous resilience and creativity of the human spirit, the collective strength of belonging and the significance of gratitude. These are the people who pivoted an entire system of education advancing how and where learning is delivered, coordinating care and support for the most vulnerable in our communities, demonstrating love and gratitude on a level we could never imagine. And, most importantly of all, in the midst of relentless change, providing certainty and stability. In reflecting on the extraordinary challenges facing Principals, staff, parents and students through the course of 2020, it is a unique privilege that schools in WA have been spared the widespread learning disruptions we have observed elsewhere. ... continue reading: https://news.cewa.edu.au/executive-directors-end-of-year-m/

16.01.2022 The CEWA Aboriginal Secondary Student Bursary Program for 2021 is now open for applications, with three new colleges joining the program. Kearnan College Manji...mup, Our Lady of Mercy College in Australind, and Salvado Catholic College Byford join 35 other Catholic schools and colleges who offer financial support to Aboriginal students in secondary years through the program. The Bursaries program was introduced in 1997, and in 2019 assisted 372 Aboriginal students to access the education and pastoral support of CEWA schools and colleges. This is not just a program for students from regional communities, and we are looking forward to seeing more students from local schools in the south of the State benefiting from access to a Catholic secondary education into the future, Program Coodinator, Norman Brahim, said. Aboriginal families with children preparing to attend secondary school in 2021 are encouraged to consider applying for a bursary now. 08.01.2022 Executive Directors message: Reflecting on the first half of 2020 Dear colleagues, parents and caregivers, and friends of Catholic education The end of Term Tw...o is just a couple of days away, and as our lives at school, work and home in Western Australia become less and less restricted, looking back on this year so far gives a truly remarkable perspective. There is much to be grateful for with the COVID-19 situation continuing to improve in our State, to the point where our Catholic schools and colleges not only have students and teachers in classrooms, playgrounds, labs and libraries, but students are able to look forward to camps and enjoy many co-curricular activities again. I know that schools and staff across our Catholic education system have received wonderful support from parents all year, and from their colleagues, and I thank all of our parents and families for their support of their school communities. 02.01.2022 SAINT OF THE DAY ST. JOHN VIANNEY (Feast Day: July 4,)... Pray for us! Saint John Vianneys Story A man with vision overcomes obstacles and performs deeds that seem impossible. John Vianney was a man with vision: He wanted to become a priest. But he had to overcome his meager formal schooling, which inadequately prepared him for seminary studies. His failure to comprehend Latin lectures forced him to discontinue. But his vision of being a priest urged him to seek private tutoring. After a lengthy battle with the books, John was ordained. Situations calling for impossible deeds followed him everywhere. As pastor of the parish at Ars, John encountered people who were indifferent and quite comfortable with their style of living. His vision led him through severe fasts and short nights of sleep. With Catherine Lassagne and Benedicta Lardet, he established La Providence, a home for girls. Only a man of vision could have such trust that God would provide for the spiritual and material needs of all those who came to make La Providence their home. His work as a confessor is John Vianneys most remarkable accomplishment. In the winter months he was to spend 11 to 12 hours daily reconciling people with God. In the summer months this time was increased to 16 hours. Unless a man was dedicated to his vision of a priestly vocation, he could not have endured this giving of self day after day. Many people look forward to retirement and taking it easy, doing the things they always wanted to do but never had the time. But John Vianney had no thoughts of retirement. As his fame spread, more hours were consumed in serving Gods people. Even the few hours he would allow himself for sleep were disturbed frequently by the devil. Who, but a man with vision, could keep going with ever-increasing strength? In 1929, Pope Pius XI named him the patron of parish priests worldwide. Reflection Indifference toward religion, coupled with a love for material comfort, seem to be common signs of our times. A person from another planet observing us would not likely judge us to be pilgrim people, on our way to somewhere else. John Vianney on the other hand, was a man on a journey, with his goal before him at all times. Saint John Vianney is the Patron Saint of: Priests
