25.01.2022 40+ year olds... remember Ferris Bueller? Great ad aimed at the right audience... brings back memories! #80s #FerrisBueller #DigitalMarketingAustralia #DigitalMarketing #MarketingMentor #MelbourneBusiness #GeniusAd

25.01.2022 People usually ask whether a short post or a long one is likely to go viral. I always say it depends. Here is a prime example of a long post. I found this entertaining (emotional), informative (practical) and on trend (social). What are your thoughts?

24.01.2022 What your customers say and how they act may be two completely different things. As marketers, we need to understand the difference.

24.01.2022 What do you think of Pantone 2020 Colour Of The Year? Classic blue Reassuring, comforting and relatable.... I think it looks great and will work well when matched correctly. Will you use it in your merchandise, clothing or photography? https://www.pantone.com//color-of-t/color-of-the-year-2020

23.01.2022 #influencers "42% of millennials and Gen-Zers have followed an influencer on Instagram without realizing that he or she is computer-generated." ... https://www.huffpost.com//virtual-instagram-influencers-sp

22.01.2022 I was just interviewed by a Facebook Advertising Ads legend, Andrea Vahl from America. It was great. Lovely. Generally, I don't do many because they freak me out. ... Well, this was livestreamed and I didn't shrivel up into a ball. Was it a perfect interview? Probably not but... I got through the fear and I'm proud I did it. And it has now given me confidence to do more. Watch this space! https://www.facebook.com/AndreaVahlinc/videos/2668995750018309

20.01.2022 Follow up from the last article - here's an interesting article from BBC3 - there's been some bad press recently about some social media influencers recently which has taken the shine off that 'influencer' title.

20.01.2022 #clearhistory Facebooks Clear History tool is now available in Australia (and worldwide). Q: What does this even mean?... A: This means, if you love and have a dog and you clear your Facebook History, then all the websites about dogs and dog products you visited, wont be able to serve you adverts on Facebook or Instagram. The catch is, Facebook states youll still see the same number of ads as before, but theyll be less personalised. So if youre a dog lover and are happy to potentially be served ads about cats, then clear away https://mashable.com/ar/facebook-clear-history-launch-2020/

20.01.2022 Its hard to get Social Media statistics for Australia alone. Below is the latest for May 2020. Ive been showcasing these statistics for over 3 years and what I say to business and students: - Facebook grew from 15mil to 16mil over the last year. ... - Facebook owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Take a look at the figures, its pretty much most of the Australian population. - TikTok has finally made the scene. And its growing rapidly. - Lots of activity on LinkedIn, due to the extra abilities we can now do. It went from 3.6mil to 5.5mil over the last year. - Instagram jumped from 5mil in 2015 to 9mil in 2019 and has remained steady, This is mainly due to the introduction of Instagram for Business and Shopping! 20.01.2022 Doing a bit of research and came across this. At first, I thought it was deliberate. Then.... realised it wasn't. And when you are using hashtags on Instagram like #marketing #copywriting #copywritingtips #free #copy #writingcommunity #writingthatsells #copywritingtip #copywritingskills #copywritingservice #tip - it doesn't give me confidence. This is the reason why you take breaks (to double-check before posting).... Hey - it did make me read the whole spiel though. Kudos to that! #spelling

20.01.2022 Who has Posting Paralysis when it comes to doing a Facebook Live??

19.01.2022 And in Australian News today... The News & Herald Sun, The Guardian, ABC News Facebook Pages pages - literally wiped of all posts for Australian residents. Even the Bettota and the Chaser (which aren't official news sites but are satire) and Neighbourhood Watch are blocked. BBC, NBC, Buzzfeed, even ENews is wiped. ... Facebook explains: "Google Search is inextricably intertwined with news and publishers do not voluntarily provide their content. On the other hand, publishers willingly choose to post news on Facebook, as it allows them to sell more subscriptions, grow their audiences and increase advertising revenue." The losers will be the networks. There could be opportunity for smaller businesses to create blog articles about newsworthy incidences (their own opinion) on their own websites to then share... we shall see. It will be interesting times ahead xx #australiannews #australiansocialmedia #restrictednewsau #buzzfeed #abcnews #thechaser #neighbourhoodwatch #heraldsun #goodmoveausgovtNOT #socialmediastrategistaustralia

19.01.2022 I watch and read about the devastating Australian Bushfires. It is all over my social media, TV, newspapers and radio. While my friends and family are safe, there are so many more people and animals that need our help. What I have witnessed is how different businesses have reacted to this crisis. - Most businesses, have done the right thing.... - Other businesses well, to put it simply, are taking advantage of a horrible situation to boost sales. So much so, I wrote an article about how businesses can benefit the community, morally and ethically, without capitalising on the crisis. Personally, I would love to hear stories of how various businesses have helped altruistically. If you know of any businesses that have gone above and beyond, please let us know below. Everything counts. Marina xx

18.01.2022 Australia has been hit hard in 2020 with devastating bushfires and now the Coronavirus outbreak. With events cancelled and travel on hold, you may be scrambling to navigate through lockdowns and community fear. But there is a secret weapon.... You. You have control. And I get it. Its hard to concentrate. But if an Italian town can still create a community musical harmony when theyre isolated during a corona virus lockdown, then you can create opportunity to reevaluate your strategic business direction and your marketing. People with a plan will survive this unprecedented event. And remember. People buy from people. So this is a perfect time to show your awesomeness. https://www.motivatingmarketing.com.au//managing-your-mar/ #virus #marketinginacrisis

18.01.2022 Follow up from the last article - heres an interesting article from BBC3 - theres been some bad press recently about some social media influencers recently which has taken the shine off that influencer title.

17.01.2022 They say the move comes with the aim of lessening social pressure on the site and to help remove the fear that people have of not getting enough likes...

16.01.2022 Facebook have finally come out to state hashtags in Facebook posts should increase your organic reach. Plus, I have seen a 'Browse' button on the foot of some posts to discover more about an included hashtag, as attached (but only if the post shows up on my feed organically at the moment). So it's time to crank up those #hashtags on Facebook. ... Some things to note: Find hashtags by typing in the search bar, just like on Instagram. Unlike on Instagram, Facebook hashtag feeds do not show the number of hashtags, or related hashtags. Only worth using hashtags on Facebook Pages, Public Profiles and Public Groups (if your profile is set to private, it won't show up to the general public). Here is Facebook's small help section on using hashtags: https://www.facebook.com/help/587836257914341 #digitalmarketing #digitalstrategy #facebookchanges #smallbusiness #supportsmallbusiness #facebooktips #melbournebusiness #womeninbusiness #sydneybusiness #queenslandbusiness #australianbusiness #facebooknews

15.01.2022 Why should we care what Pantone Colour Of The Year is? Because we will seeing it in marketing materials, wall paint, clothes and furniture before the year is out. Apple have already cottoned on to it. Will you be using it in some way, shape or form?

15.01.2022 I was invited by RMIT to speak about Building Resilence in Work and Life to RMIT Business Students. At the end of the session, I was asked to give my top 3 tips to business students starting their own business or seeking employment. Thought these might help you too:... 1. JUST START If you are wanting to start a business - then start TODAY, even if you are studying. The educatoin will make so much more sense when you are applying it naturally and immediately to the business you love. 2. GET A MENTOR Find a person who is has more knowledge and is aligned to where you want to be in business. Ensure they don't sabotage your enthusiasm and energy. I wouldn't be where I am today without these people guiding me through the world of business (Vicky Jacques, Alex Cozzi, Leanne Fitzgerald, Alex Bialocki - just to name a few!) 3. GAIN EXPERIENCE Don't be afraid to try new things to your business or volunteer your services to gain experience and confidence. Learn to take charge of your accounts. Learn to take charge of your marketing. Then you can outsource with confidence. PS: I still volunteer my service to not-for-profits as this fills my cup and is my version of giving back to my community (social responsibilty) What would your 3 tips be to business students entering employment or starting a new business? #DigitalMarketingTips #BusinessTipsAU #MelbourneBusiness #StudentTips #RMIT #RMITUniversity #AustralianBusiness #melbournewomen #SmallBizAU

14.01.2022 UPCOMING FACEBOOK CHANGES Facebook is changing and heres what you need to know for your business. The timeline is DISAPPEARING (Yep, people won't be able to see your timelines posts from your past)! ... In the next few months, the timeline will go, and instead youll see a focus on 4 key areas: 1. MESSAGING Facebook is going private, and encrypting messaging. That means that you cant be hacked, and similar to WhatsApp you know your data is private. Within the messaging service, there will be a push on bots, and AI messaging services for businesses. Within months you will be able to send messages simultaneously to people on all platforms whether theyre on WhatsApp, Instagram, or Messenger. 2. GROUPS Facebook believes love the fact that communities are being built on the back of real life communities for football, or mental health or growing a business. However, with the algorithms the way they are, its likely youll have to pay to boost a post within the ACTUAL group. Sponsored posts in groups are now being trialled in the US, and is coming. They are also beta testing a paid subscription group for Facebook. 3. VIDEO Facebook has been following a video first policy for a few years, and Facebook Watch is at the heart of this strategy. If you upload content on a regular basis, you will be rewarded for it. 4. STORIES Like Instagram Stories, Facebook is focusing and rewarding short bursts of info that last 24 hours. Events and Whats Happening in Your Local Area will play a significant role in the platform. And AI Artificial Intelligence will increasingly play a role BOTS are just the beginning when it comes to talking to robots! Why are these changes happening now? Mark Zuckerberg has been hinting at changes for months and is due to Russian scandals, from Cambridge Analytica, and also from mental health groups. Removing the timeline removes a lot of these issues. Whats the next big thing? Well just have to wait and see how this plays out.

14.01.2022 Great information on websites needs to be formatted well. Learn how to structure your blog post so your audience can easily read your articles, including images, headings, bullet points, white space and word count. https://www.motivatingmarketing.com.au//how-to-structure-/

13.01.2022 When was the last time you changed your cover button on your Facebook Page? Facebook has updated the cover button to include so many more options! I've had to take 2 x screenshots because there was so many to choose from!!... Which one suits your business? If you have a group associated with your Facebook Business Page, you can use 'VISIT GROUP'. I've just changed my button - so give it a try! Would love to see you in the private group, where I share vital insights into digital and social marketing. #FacebookTips #melbourne #melbournemarketing #facebookgroups #socialmedia #socialmediahelp #FacebookStrategy

13.01.2022 Who said Facebook was free? For people who are using Facebook Marketplace to sell as a business strategy will soon require a budget to 'boost' their listing. What will you do? Increase your product/service pricing to cover ad sales per item?... Create/add a marketing budget specifically for Facebook Marketplace on a continuing basis? With Facebook, Instagram and every other social media, there should be a budget in place to attract the right social media population. My next prediction: Boosting Facebook Group posts within a group as well as advertising in Facebook Groups from external Facebook businesses. Watch this space

12.01.2022 Who is on Clubhouse? Are you on LinkedIn too? It comes to no surprise that LinkedIn would copy this. It makes total sense - what Clubhouse does is great for a B2B audience and show your expertise. So naturally, LinkedIn would create the same (and judging by the way it looks and feels, it's suspiciously the same as Clubhouse). - Will you just remain on Clubhouse?... - Will you join both? - Will you ditch Clubhouse and just concentrate on LinkedIn's offer? Does Clubhouse or LinkedIn even fit into your marketing strategy? Is your audience even on there? Or is just another shiny tool to distract you from your ultimate business goals?

12.01.2022 And there you have it... nothing is original forever. First you had LinkedIn - now it's Facebook. Will it signify the death of Clubhouse?

11.01.2022 In my Social Media Strategy course, I talk about Social Currency. To understand what is topical and newsworthy to help you or your business participate in social media conversation. So... how can a business make a statement when the topic of conversation is about Australia's Prime Minister holidaying in Hawaii while Australia is fighting out-of-control fires and people are dying? Well, a Melbourne based menswear label has created the ultimate ScoMo shirt. What's even better ...is 100% of profits are going to fire services. Loving the initiative @mrkoya.shirts

07.01.2022 Challenge + Stimulation + Reward You need all these in your life. BUT... If you only had CHALLENGE & STIMULATION with no REWARD - you will be BURNT OUT. If you only had CHALLENGE & REWARD with no STIMULATION - you will be utterly BORED. If you only had STIMULATION & REWARD with no CHALLENGE - you will become BLAND. So, in short... if all 3 aren't working harmoniously, we end up losing our MOJO. 07.01.2022 Instagram is currently developing a new 'Link' sticker for Stories which would theoretically enable users to place a link onto their Stories frame, in the location of their choosing, as opposed to relying on a swipe-up link. Let's hope this is good news for people with less than 10K followers! https://www.socialmediatoday.com//instagrams-workin/598754

07.01.2022 Another reason why Facebook Advertising is a minefield. Facebook has a set of community standards. You always have the chance to appeal but sometimes, you still need to change your picture, message or your even your strategy. Perception is in the eye of the beholder!

06.01.2022 This is for people who create content on social media profiles, for businesses they love (yes, you!). Analytics are great up to a point. They do not tell you who notices your work. Analytics don’t tell you who returns to your profile or talks about something they have learnt, laughed or cried about from your content.... People are usually reluctant to show any feedback. Sometimes it’s because they are simply shy. Other times, it’s because they assume you are already succeeding, already doing your do. People are funny beasts. My point is, even if you barely have any likes or engagement, don’t get discouraged. Even if your content is fantastic, you are still fighting algorithms and all the other marketing white-noise. But you have a lot of silent fans. Lots of people watching. Waiting. Keep showing up. Be consistent. Be strategic. And when they need you, they will remember you. The world needs what you have to offer. Remember that x #beyourself #Melbourne #digitalmarketingaustralia #marketingaustralia #smallbizau #MarketingMentor #womeninbusiness #melbournebusiness
