03.01.2022 REBIRTHING THE ARTIST. A couple of nights ago, i was at Sigourney Belle Weldon's birthday and Saya Olivia Hayashi said "put on one of Dane's songs". I felt my s...elf automatically cringe. And then observe it. And then let it go. They put on "Goddess Delusion" which Ben Temple Step produced and created with me last year. (it's on Spotify if you wanna listen) I'm stoked with the punchlines and humour of the song. I feel how vulnerable and basic sounding and kinda slow it is musically (literally my first track in ten years so a bit dusty!). I also notice: Everyone was laughing in all the right places. This is the first time something of mine has been played publically in a setting where people were sat down and listening and I was able to just BE in my body and observe and feel. I didn't die. I didn't exit my body. I didn't (god forbid) APOLOGISE for the thing i'd created. I just enjoyed that everyone was pissing themselves laughing. I've been working on a release with Ben. I've been stalling like a MOFO also because of all these fears and vulnerabilities. Something has been shifting of late though. I'm going to simply release the first track which has Ben's signature killer production and some raps that i'm feeling (still my second track in a decade LOL). And.. i've been doing Happii Gharsa's music challenge. I've made a song from scratch each week, made the beat, wrote raps, recorded them and done a very basic mix and shared them with the group. It's freeing me up. The first song is called "Struggle and Flow" i don't know really what it's about but it's kinda emo rap. The second one is called "Robot Sex Doll" it's more like an ironic electro banger about a guy in 2050 who's quit dating and is (as you might expect) having a relationship with his ROBOT SEX DOLL. So i'm starting to find out what sorts of things lurk in my subconscious. My commitment for 2021 (yeah i'm already doing that stuff) is to focus primarily on my music and creativity. I am already setting up my teeny tiny studio at the new house and I feel super excited to have a proper space that stays set up. I'm considering sharing my unfinished demos somewhere - maybe in my group dark wizardry. Anyways that's enough for now. Thanks for witnessing my larvae stage artist creeping out.. Photo Bea Maz
