17.01.2022 Meet the #Raceworksequipped Chonda, aka Chevy Honda owned by Ran Maclurkin. Also known as the Grim Ruiner, Ran is a very successful abstract tattoo artist who g...rew up at the racetrack with his father and brother Ashley, who both raced sports cars. Ash runs Moorabbin Auto Spares, and has been a Raceworks Dealer since we launched in 2014. Ran is very passionate on all things motorsport. We supported Ran with two of his previous race cars, a 180SX and 350Z, before he stepped up to the Honda, built in 1989 by Derek Van Zelm of Motorsport Engineering Services. Those who have seen any of Ran’s three race cars would be familiar with the name Built By Wizards Raced By Madmen, which is even more fitting than ever with the Chonda! The car retains the original roof, pillars, sills and taillights. Lexan windows are used all around. Underneath the custom body is a full space frame. It has won Three Victorian Sports Sedan Championships, before Ran recently purchased it, who after giving it a check took it out for a test session. Unfortunately a through-bolt failed, resulting in a wheel coming off. In it's life, the Chonda has been White, Orange, and now Green in colour. Derek, the original builder/owner, then stepped in to help Ran go over the car thoroughly and make some improvements. The Chonda runs a dry-sumped small block chev, which makes 520rwkw and weighs a little over a tonne with driver. The engine sits rearward of the front axle, alongside Ran in the cabin. Induction comes from 8 Throttle Bodies and custom rails with Bosch 702cc injectors, fuelled by Twin Bosch 044 pumps. A custom surge tank is fed by Twin Holley Red lift pumps. Ignition is a CDI system, and the engine is controlled by a MoTeC ECU, with data displayed on a Motec Dash. A Holinger Engineering sequential 6spd box and 9 IRS Diff gets the power to the ground through custom built 3pc centre lock wheels (Measuring 16x12 in the rear!) and full slicks. Suspension consists of double wishbones with inboard Koni dampers, and Brembo brake calipers off Brock’s Group A BMW, using 2piece rotors with custom hats. The car currently runs on AVGAS however a change to E85 with a new Raceworks fuel system is on the cards. Underneath the bodywork you will find our ALY-070BK Coolant Recovery Tank, RWM-045 Spark plug Heatshield Boots, and RWM-042 Gold Reflective Heatshielding. Currently the car is having some changes to the livery, and will be on display at Vic Time Attack on April 5th, followed by SIX ONE Australian Custom Automotive Exhibition in Williamstown on April 27th. Soon after, Ran plans to get the car to the dyno before heading back to the racetrack. Ran would like to extend a huge thank you to Derek who is helping him take the car to a new level. Also his sponsors and supporters, Moorabbin Auto Spares, Penrite Oil, Coolshirt Systems Australia, BMC AIR FILTERS, TSFM, GAD Tyres and Chasers Motorworks. His team and friends who lend a hand Nathan Butler, Chris Muscat Jnr, Adrian Millington, Brod, Josh and Ben, Glenn and Paul, Luke Grech-cumbo, Garry Roberts, Liam and Gary from Riverside Racing, Jason Clements and Nick Smith. We wish you all the best Ran, and look forward to seeing the car out soon!

14.01.2022 Making a M10 stud from a M10 bolt screw cutting at 2200 rpm I cut twice as the spring back needs going over again

12.01.2022 Tip of the week while in the brakes subject! To avoid stripped bleed nipple threads in calipers use a cut down ring spanner so the torque applied to the thread is enough to tighten the nipple but limits how much torque can be applied. Pic is of my own cut down only used on bleed nipples!

06.01.2022 SUPPORT US BY LIKING OUR FACEBOOK PAGE, IT ONLY TAKES A FEW SECONDS!! SOME COOL FACTS ON OUR SPORT!! What 10,000 horsepower does to a tire at launch.... TOP FUEL ACCELERATION PUT INTO PERSPECTIVE * One Top Fuel dragster 500 cubic-inch Hemi engine makes more horsepower (11,000 HP) than the first 5 rows at the Daytona 500. * Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 1.2-1.5 gallons of nitro methane per second; a fully loaded 747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate with 25% less energy being produced. * A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to merely drive the dragster's supercharger. * With 3000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into a near-solid form before ignition. Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lock at full throttle. * At the stoichiometric 1.7:1 air/fuel mixture for nitro methane the flame front temperature measures 7050 degrees F. * Nitromethane burns yellow. The spectacular white flame seen above the stacks at night is raw burning hydrogen, dissociated from atmospheric water vapor by the searing exhaust gases. * Dual magnetos supply 44 amps to each spark plug. This is the output of an arc welder in each cylinder. * Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a pass. After 1/2 way, the engine is dieseling from compression plus the glow of exhaust valves at 1400 degrees F. The engine can only be shut down by cutting the fuel flow. * If spark momentarily fails early in the run, unburned nitro builds up in the affected cylinders and then explodes with sufficient force to blow cylinder heads off the block in pieces or split the block in half. * Dragsters reach over 300 MPH before you have completed reading this sentence. * In order to exceed 300 MPH in 4.5 seconds, dragsters must accelerate an average of over 4 G's. In order to reach 200 MPH well before half-track, the launch acce leration approaches 8 G's. * Top Fuel engines turn approximately 540 revolutions from light to light! * Including the burnout, the engine must only survive 900 revolutions under load. * The redline is actually quite high at 9500 RPM. * THE BOTTOM LINE: Assuming all the equipment is paid off, the crew worked for free, & for once, NOTHING BLOWS UP, each run costs an estimated $1,000 per second. 0 to 100 MPH in .8 seconds (the first 60 feet of the run) 0 to 200 MPH in 2.2 seconds (the first 350 feet of the run) 6 g-forces at the starting line (nothing accelerates faster on land) 6 negative g-forces upon deployment of twin âchutes at 300 MPH An NHRA Top Fuel Dragster accelerates quicker than any other land vehicle on earth . . quicker than a jet fighter plane . . . quicker than the space shuttle. The current Top Fuel dragster elapsed time record is 4.420 seconds for the quarter-mile (2004, Doug Kalitta). The top speed record is 338.35 mph as measured over the last 66' of the run (2017, Dom lagana). Putting this all into perspective: You are driving the average $140,000 Lingenfelter twin-turbo powered Corvette Z06. Over a mile up the road, a Top Fuel dragster is staged & ready to launch down a quarter-mile strip as you pass. You have the advantage of a flying start. You run the 'Vette hard up through the gears and blast across the starting line & pass the dragster at an honest 200 MPH. The 'tree' goes green for both of you at that moment. The dragster launches & starts after you. You keep your foot down hard, but you hear an incredibly brutal whine that sears your eardrums & within 3 seconds the dragster catches & passes you. He beats you to the finish line, a quarter-mile away from where you just passed him. Think about it - from a standing start, the dragster had spotted you 200 MPH & not only caught, but nearly blasted you off the road when he passed you within a mere 1320 foot long race! That's acceleration!

05.01.2022 Just a few axles ready for heat treatment and shot peening. The small piece on top of the purchase orders is so they can check the hardness is as requested and they don’t need to put a mark on a axle.
