13.01.2022 52mm WP Cone Valve forks...everyone gets a bit excited about them, however internally theyre not that much different from the WP closed chamber fork. Ive inc...luded a disassembled closed chamber fork for comparison. As you can see, the biggest immediate difference is the bladder vs ICS spring system. The base valve is slightly different, however the mid compression/rebound piston is the same as all WP open and closed chamber forks. Where the magic happens is on the compression side of the mid piston, with an adaptor cup and the opposing spring loaded cone, which simply moves out of the way with oil flow, rather than flexing a shim stack. The rebound side of the mid piston is a standard rebound stack, as is the compression base valve shim stack. There are many minor differences, including thrust bearings under the springs, the lower tubes are actually aluminium, the seal holder unscrews, external spring preload, carbon fibre spring perches, mostly aimed at saving weight and flex characteristics. However the actual working parts of the damping are relatively the same.

10.01.2022 While the WP AER48 is a great fork out of the box, they are physically long, the check plate mid valve is not ideal and they dont give much initial sag or squa...t. The length and lack of squat is excarbated on the off road models (XC, FX, TX) by the 18" rear wheel. Our solution is to lower both forks internally, which then moves the air piston seal off the equalising notch. Add a schrader valve to the bottom of the fork and you now have a dual chamber air fork. Add or remove air pressure from the lower chamber and you can control the initial sag and squat of the fork. Testing has shown we can run higher pressures and stiffer settings without the higher pressure raising the front end and creating a chopper effect. *EDIT* also handy for vertically challenged riders and completely reversible.

This 250SX fork has a check plate mid and SX-F has US spec shim stack mid compression.
